Thanks for this excellent video. Had the exact same FluidMaster components… and it was your Step 3 that helped me diagnose my problem. When I finally (after much struggle) pulled out that gray spiral rubber piece (that controls water pressure), I discovered it was badly ripped and split in two spots! I still cleaned it up and stuck it back in but, as I expected, the slow refill problem persisied. So for $24 I just bought and installed a new fill valve component and BINGO! Problem solved & refills like a champ now. Thank you!!!! 🎉

Great video! Saved me a trip to the hardware store. Done tip 1, still no water. Tip 2 was kinda unfeasible due to stiff pex tubing. Tip 3 went to pull and couldn't get it. So I pulled the whole valve. Found it completely stopped up with calcium. Cleaned it, reinstalled and went back to tip 1 because I could see the calcium hung up in there. Poof! Everything works like it should now. Thanks to That Fix It Guy! 👍👍 🙌👊

Great video! You were exactly right about that large threaded water governor in the water inlet under the tank. I *never* would have known to look there! On my toilet, this piece looked all chewed up and chunks were clogging the pipe to the valve. I took the valve off the top and blew water down until no more chunks came out of the water inlet. I will visit the hardware store tomorrow to get a replacement. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for putting the video together. Good job! So, here's my problem. Several days ago I noticed that my toilet was taking forever to fill up. I did the flush procedure and checked the diaphragm. Everything looked good. When I turned on the supply valve, the tank filled up normally. But on the subsequent flush, it went back to tricking and filling very slowly. I don't think the other two suggestions you gave are the issue, because whenever I turn off the supply valve, drain the tank, and then turn it back on. It fills great! But then when I flush again the water flow reduces to a drip. Any suggestions?
@ericfisher4792
@ericfisher4792 Жыл бұрын
I got on the Fluidmaster website and typed my question on the discussion page. Low and behold several commenters had the exact same problem! Trickle refills, but when they shut off and then turned on the supply valve the tank filled up quickly. One of them actually called Fluidmaster tech support. Here was the reply, "I had the same problem. I called FluidMaster tech support, and they explained that the little black valve seal that seats in the top cap of the shutoff valve was probably sticking due to brittleness over the years, and so it would not move to open without added water pressure from turning off and on the water supply to the toilet tank." Sounds like I may just need to replace valve seal.
@ericfisher4792
@ericfisher4792 Жыл бұрын
Final thought. I removed the black valve seal to see if it was degraded. Turns out the center of the valve seal had torn loose and was stuck to the needle in the center. When I zoomed in on pictures of the seal on Amazon, I noticed that the hole at the center is supposed to be small. The hole in my valve seal was substantially larger. Crazy how these things can be so easily missed. Off to buy a new valve seal :-)

Same problem as @vicktv33 8 months ago. Commode filled quickly. Replaced flush system with Fluidmaster and immediately fill time extended to 56 seconds. Same replacement for master bath - same commode, fill time 30 seconds. Feels a little like a first world problem but I don’t understand the performance difference and my daughter complains about the full time. I thought there might be an adjustment that could be made to the FM to improve fill time. Water flow seems strong. Please and thank you for any comment.

Different problem. Can't get the float to drop. It seems like it is just a few ounces too light and after going down most of the way, it stop. I have to reach in and push down with just light pressure to "unstick" it and it then causes the valve to open and the new water fills the tank. I've tried adjusting the screw level up and down on the float but it always sticks just before getting all the way down. Was think of just hanging a couple lead sinkers on the upper arm to add downward pressure on the float, but it seems like such a "rig job" and wondered if there is a proper fix?

Nice vid! I had removed the cap three times, and each time seemed successful, but when i reassembled and re-flushed...still filling slowly. I then removed the gasket, but the nipple remained attached to the pin. At first i thought *I* broke it but seems that may have been the problem all along. BTW, during the Christmas cold snap I noticed the flush was sounding different. Today the tank stopped refilling.

Now. do i want to deal with this or just get a reliable valve at 1.2 the price. This is the 2nd time in 2 years i had to adjust this 250$ toilet. miss the Navy days sometimes where the outhouse got buried when we were done with our exercises were over. I don’t know if you can buy a new one of those. I’ve never seen them for sale. Your toilet will fill a lot fast with that thing not in it, but you could also start experiencing issues like water hammer. May want to replace the valve if it starts acting up.

I'm getting zero flow from that little conduit you unhook at 5:26. I unhooked the other end, and nothing comes out of the stem or whatever at all. Do I need to replace the whole fill valve doohickey?

I recently drained my well bladder tank to check the bladder air pressure. Ever since I have a big issue with both my toilets slow filling and gurgling. Sometimes it makes water flow in all house faucets stop. Seems to be air but I don’t understand why it’s so bad. Water pressure returns good in taps but if I flush both toilets there’s no kitchen sink water. Seems to be a major airlock. Any ideas?

The problem i had was, i live in an area where the water is hard, so limescale builds up so i simply put a limescale remover tablet in the water bowl right by the valve opening, gave it half an hour to let the tablet do its work, toilet flushes okay now, no more intervention.

So the like scale was just clogging the jets on the bowl?

Curious my moms toilet is delayed between the flush and the fill. It fills at a normal rate and flushes at a normal rate but there is a delay of maybe 10 seconds or so between the flush and refill. Would any of these be a solution?

It sounds like the float portion of this may be dirty where the float slides up and down. I would manually make the fill valve work a couple of times and see if that don’t do the trick.

No mention of looking at the washer in the top of the unit? debris stuck there?

My restrictor being broken was the reason why my toilet was filing slow, so i ended up replacing the whole valve

I took everything off the top and turned my valve back on. The water was barely bubbling out of the top. Clog somewhere else perhaps? Edit: I took the hose that goes from the wall to the toilet off and turned the valve on. A damned screw came out of the line that goes to the wall 😆

Any idea why these fixes will only work for me for 1 flush? My tank refills slowly but if I turn the water off, open the top of the fill valve (don't even have to turn the water back on to blow out any debris), and put it back, it will fill normally. But if I flush again it refills slowly again. When it is filling slowly water doesn't even go through the tube, it just drips from the top of the valve.

I am at a loss. A friend of mine just had the same issue. He gave me the fill valve in question. I am going to hook this up to some water and see what the deal is with it. I think there still has to be something stuck in there, but at this point change that bad boy out. 12.00 and 20 minutes for piece of mind.
