Had this happen to me. A man started yelling at me to stay away from his dock. All I did was repeatedly say "What?". I got him to scream at me until he went hoarse. Then I laughed at him.

I encountered a person like this while fishing with a friend one time. We talked about her to each other loudly enough that she could hear us, but never responded to her directly. Drove her absolutely insane. She made the obligatory threat to call the police, before her husband(I assume) came out to get her. I feel really bad for that man.

I bet they don't have permission to build that dock so long.

My friend had a small generator on his boat and it was connected to a water pump. He had people on there docks spraying him with water. So he turned on the generator and sprayed them back with a high pressure pump. They called the cops on him. The cops told the home owner that they did not own the water. They only owned the dock

I got a dozen or so cards from my local CO. I keep them in my tacklebox. Having been harassed on several occasions...when they threaten to "call the cops", I tell them they need to call the DNR and offer them the card. I've had 3 take me up on the offer and all 3 got ticketed!

Best way to handle it is to call a Conservation Officer and let him/her deal with Karen.

I don't know that lake but where cabin is we have to apply for dock permit. In the agreement we affirm the dock is a privilege/ courtesy and the permit could be invalidated if the owner does anything to prevent public enjoyment. When rescinded it must be remove entirely at the owners expense. Then they would have to start the application process again. If that's available there somebody needs to teach her a lesson.

Your buddys pitching and flipping game is on point! I despise karens. I own lake property and have made sure that my wife and family knows that who ever wants to can fish in front of our property. That being said, if me and the kids are on the bank and a boater runs right through our lines it becomes a different story. Just last week we had a couple kayakers pull up on my kids lines.

Dude should have brought ALL his friends out to the dock the next day. And fished it all day long, bbq, music… the works.

Amazes me that people believe they "own" the water around their dock. In some states, once you build a dock (which is regulated by the state), the dock is just like a driveway that crosses public easement. The property owner needs to learn what the laws are before pestering fishermen. This in itself is illegal. Harassing fishermen is illegal lady.

"Karen" is probably a member of the HOA, and when she's not harassing other homeowners in her domain, she patrols the waters as well. It's too bad there aren't alligators in the lake, as there's always a chance Karen could feed THEM the exciting way!

The best thing to do with Karen's like this is to literally just pretend they aren't there. They have no right to tell you what to do so you have the right to not only ignore them but entirely pretend they don't even exist. It's also very satisfying to keep fishing the whole time while they are yelling at you and you don't even look in their direction lol

There’s a public creek near a golf course near me. They recently put up “no parking” signs and there’s literally no other way to get to the creek. You can see the creek driving by on a golf cart, but no one was ever hurting anyone. I hardly have any areas to fish near me that I don’t have to pay to be at. I can’t stand Karens

My dad passed in 2021. He is the reason I absolutely love fishing! I usually could outfish him, but one other thing he taught me was to respect people and how to end conflict. She obviously has a problem and doesn’t respect her own neighbors by having a very loud parrot. I happen to live in a neighborhood and I also happen to have a macaw! Macaws are one of the loudest of all parrots and when I have her in her outside cage I do everything in my power to keep her from calling out. When she begins to call I give her a foraging treat, and bring her right in the house if she continues. Just because I happen to have a bird and love her doesn’t mean my neighbors do! This lady’s bird was annoying me….i couldn’t imagine living next door to her!!! If I were this man, I would be the bigger person and find another area on the lake to fish. That lake looked like it had plenty of other fishing spots! You may be “ legally” in the right, but to continue to keep this crazy banter going is beyond me! Same thing on the highway…. When someone tails me and wants me to get out of the way, I gladly do! No skin off my nose!

It’s a misdemeanor charge to harass any sportsman legal taking game by license. So to all my fishermen you’re in the right people need to leave us alone.

Perhaps the biggest mistake, in regard to a Crazy Karen on a dock, when you are on a boat...is to just not engage them in a conversation. Just because someone speaks to you, does not in all cases, obligate you to a response. Let the Crazy Karen be crazy. (Just a thought I had at the moment.)

The angler has every right to fish there. When she came out and started yelling, it was a clear case of hunter/angler harassment. When she started watering the water, it made it more so. When she dropped trash in the water, 3rd strike on harassment, 1st strike on littering. Personally, I would have called the police and had her charged. More of us anglers need to do that so people will stop this nonsense.

I had a Karen and his 4 year old daughter stand directly behind me when I was fly fishing. I reeled in and moved, so did this twit. He assured me he had as much right to stand where he wanted as I did. He then asked me my name and phone number so he could post a video showing of how disrespectful I was. My folks used to have a lake house adjacent to a boat launch and channel that accessed the main lake. Non-stop boat traffic, quite often, but the boat guys would also fish around our property quite often. Casting for bass, pike, walleye, what have you. If I didn't have anything else to do, I'd often go outside and ask them how things were going, or if they had a nice Pike or Musky on I'd go out and watch. Sometimes they'd get gear stuck on the shoreline, or our piers, and I'd always help them out with it if I was around. Usually crankbaits. But pretty much every time I'd engage an angler in conversation, they seemed real apprehensive, as if they assumed I was an MK just going out to give them guff about fishing around our property, which I never was. Sad how often folks who are just trying to fish and enjoy a public resource have to deal with obnoxious people on the bank. Even when somebody WAS in the wrong, somehow, I always kept my cool and didn't make an issue out of it. There's just no need at all for this kind of behavior, 99.9% of the time.

I'm sure Karen will wake up in the middle of the night and think of something to say that would have put you right in your place.

Actually, she can't spray that water. Every state has a law that says something to the effect of... "It is unlawful to interfere intentionally with the lawful taking of wildlife resources or to drive, harass, or intentionally disturb any wildlife for the purpose of disrupting the lawful taking of wildlife resources." In my state it's a class 2 misdemeanor with up to a $1,000 fine. If it's a repeat offense it's automatically enhanced to a class 1 misdemeanor with a possible maximum 120 day jail sentence.

I wouldn't even responded to her insanity. Not acknowledging these people drives them insane. I always like to jester to them that I can't hear them without saying a word. They go nuts, it's hysterical.

I get both sides. My mom lived on a lake with a nice big dock. We all kept our toys docket there. I was the fisherman and the brothers had water toys. It pissed us all off to no end to walk on the dock and find hooks stuck in anything and everything. Seats ripped up, sun tops torn to shit hooks in the top deck. I also get the fish the docks. Best place to catch them. Unfortunately it is the 1% at both ends that screw it up for both ends. It is best to just move on, because they are mad not at you personally but the last disrespectful ass that did do disrespectful things. Unfortunately you get the bad rap because you are the next person to come by.

I enjoy confrontations like this, the best thing is to say nothing, just keep fishing. A close friend of mine lived on a lake and after that experience, I would never live on a lake.
