There are a lot of myths and misinformation floating around when it comes to Airconditioners - Especially inverter type air conditioners. In this episode, we address how Inverters work (vs non-inverter) and other hacks to really save money on your electric bill when it comes to cooling your home.

That was comprehensive! I know most already except something I learned lately. Try to set your temperature to the highest temperature for a comfort zone. Usually at 22 to 24 you are already cool and comfortable. Setting it too low, say 16 to 18 will not make it work better just harder. And if after an hour you still feel hot inside a room even when it is set 22 to 24 deg Celsius, then your aircon is not rated for your room. Replace it with a higher rating aircon. By setting it at the comfort zone our electric bill dropped 30 to 40 percent. Not bad!

Very good advices. AC has nothing to do to trap the cold air or save on electricity bills. It is all about insulation. Just like in icy cold snowy North We insulate houses to keep the heat in. You basicly have to do the same to keep the cold air inside. I am a builder in Europe and We have lot of rules and quality standarts, but when I come to Philippines I am in shock. Building traditions here are from 20th century not 21st. What I did notice is that Almost noone is using the double glass windows with inert gas in between. Such windows dont heat up so much. It would be perfect for modern houses in tropical climate. In Europe We mostly order such windows from Poland cause of low price, but high quality.

Our LG window-type inverter aircon shuts off the fan and compressor on eco mode when it reaches the target temperature; then it turns on every 3 minutes or so to maintain the temperature when needed, just like an old-fashioned non-inverter aircon.

Hi Slater! Speaking of roofing materials, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using steel sheets as compared to using concrete which could also serve as an open multi purpose area like those used in modern houses or buildings. Because during typhoons, steel roofing can easily be destroyed when there are strong winds.

Vornado is the best to move the air in the room. I have several around my house and also ceiling fans. I’m surprised you don’t have them in your house especially in high ceiling rooms and bedrooms. It’s important to move the otherwise stagnant air so that the ac does not work as hard. I have my ceiling fans on 24/7 in several rooms in the house along with the ac with thermostat during summer time in CA where it can reach 110 degrees or warmer.

Hi Slater, I'm a registered electrical engineer and there are pros and cons if the aircon is running 24/7. Here are some facts to add. 1st is the maintenance of the aircon will be much frequent than the normal usage if we leave it turned on 24/7. 2nd inverters have different cooling efficiency and may vary depending on the model. 3rd is that if all of us will use the aircon even on the hour that is usually not needed, we might see some changes in our rates. We are consuming energy more than we used to be which affects the law of supply and demand. Demand will be higher than the previous billings and so the rate. The price of electricity will be higher because we will be using plants with higher fuel rates to sustain the demand. I've seen people posting that they intended to leave the aircon turned on even they are not using it because they think that it is much cheaper not to turn it off. My suggestion if we really wanna save our money on the electric bill is that we turn off the breakers for lightings and fixtures that will not be used when we are leaving our home, it also has some safety benefits in case we forget something that is plugged in when we leave the house. We can also turn off the aircon when it's not that hot or if we won't be using it for a long period of time. We need to be more responsible in using our energy. I'm a fan of both of you and palagi akong nabubudol ng iba mong videos, I'm also interested sa blocks mo kaso wala pa sa Luzon. So no offence bro just stating facts na baka makatulong sa atin. Thanks.

Hi. I recently purchased LG dual inverter window type AC. I'm wondering if my unit is defective or not. One time i put it on Cool mode then it got so cold so i used the remote control to change from cool to energy saver mode but i have to press it a few times to get to energy saver mode. So from cool then dry mode then fan then to energy saver mode. Then it stopped working when in energy saver mode. No air coming from the vent. No noise. No anything except the lights on the control panel are still on. Did i do something wrong while changing mode of my ac?

Good day Sir! What is your take regarding Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) systems? Is it applicable for tropical countries like the Philippines? I have read that a house should be air-tight for the effective operation of an ERV. What do they mean by keeping your house air tight (kinda scary if you take it literally, imagine when the ERV stopped working) or how air-tight should a house be for ERVs? Are ERVs more cost effective than air-conditioning units? I'm dreaming of a house build with an ERV and only ceiling fans in every room. Clean air and dust-free interior. I know that ERVs can be used in conjunction with HVAC / air-conditioning systems, but how cost-effective is it? Your videos are very informative and enjoyable! More power Sir!
