Nice to see a flourishing Kmart. It seems like most people love Kmart but never actually there, and they all hate Walmart but fill the place up. My local Kmart closed about a year and half ago, but when it was open I would do my Christmas shopping there because the place was empty. Employees outnumbered customers at any given time. Just changing times, I guess. When Walmart came to town, business all started building around it and Kmart ended up being in the wrong part of town.

I grew up shopping at Kmart so I have that connection, and it's definitely sad to see them closing. I think most people jump on the "I hate WM" wagon cause it's the trend now. I stopped shopping at Kmart simply because the prices were higher there than anywhere else, not just walmart. And I do agree, WM moves in and small businesses go under, but Kmart started killing themselves long ago, and Eddie took it and ran.

@@ThatNateGuyOnKZfaq I agree, Kmart did themselves in. Prices are quite high, but they always seemed to have some hidden gems not found anywhere else ( Amazon, now days). I spend most of my money in Walmart It's just a matter of economics.

@@ThatNateGuyOnKZfaq So true. Here in Canada Kmart went full bankrupt in 1998 and sold out to a store called Zellers. Target is not here in Canada but did you know they took over Zellers in 2013 and then less than 3 years later went bankrupt and closed all Target Canada stores!? It's so crazy. Back to Kmart tho, they would've and probably should've went under in their 2002 USA bankruptcy filing. Now with Kmart spending all that money when they took over Sears why wouldn't they just let Sears die and spend that money on making Kmart better rather than buying Sears in the first place.

@@zero_elevation They definitely still do have a bunch of hidden gems. Everything seems nicer than Walmart and WAY, WAY less sleazy. Their presentation and packaging is more appealing.

good to see a chain store performing in a normal fashion. the front marquee: perhaps the original letters were saved in the back, and they wanted the blue "big k-mart" sign to update, and save a faltering location. i can't imagine it would have been for a "new" store.

So I used to work at a big K in Rancho Cordova California before they did the remodels back in the 90s we had a k Cafe a k snack bar K Grill and when they took them out the same thing that happened at that store happened at mine where the little alcoves and little Corners it was weird but back in the back of the warehouse the vents and the kitchenware stuff was still there now that store is closed and it's a Smart & Final grocery store I still found it amazing that one of the stock rooms had the Coca-Cola system in it but the hoses were all cut off they just left it there

This was one of two Kmart stores we frequented. The other one was the no longer existing Arlington Rd. store in Akron which had a Little Caesar's Pizza and a photo studio inside. That building is a present-day Kohl's department store.

Normally in other stores, you would line up in the register and put ur stuff on the belt, not wait for an open register. So that was pretty new to me

For some reason, Kmart has removed BigK from several of their stores and changed it to Kmart. The company, Sears Holdings, will likely go out of business in 2019

Big kmart is irrelevant now in today's retail stores! Those "Big Kmart " stores aren't considered "big" anymore especially compared to newer updated Walmart, and Target stores, these are dinosaurs! And you're right Kmart and Sears are now going to be a thing of the past! But as always Nate love your videos dude.

Ours was kind of the opposite. Ours was a tradition Kmart that they converted to a Big K by squeezing the aisles together and just cramming more stuff in, and then they affixed a Big K sign to the front of the store. The original sign was identical to the one in your video, except the letters m--a--r--t were all blue. Of course, when you went in, you could tell that it wasn't a real Big Kmart.

The section by the toys, where you mention the layout being strange as you headed up by the pharmacy used to be an auto repair center. If you look outside the building by the lawn and garden entrance you'll see the garage doors.

I live in Loveland, CO, home to one of two Kmart stores left in Colorado. It's pretty similar to this one. It's never been labeled BIG Kmart.

When you were talking about nooks and crannies you were walking through the k cafe, I noticed the floor tile patterns and that's a big giveaway. Love the video.

Went to this one all the time was our go to K Mart, was always busy, had a friend that worked there they actually took pride in that store, it's now a U haul storage unit and truck rental, U haul took over pretty much the day after it closed so it never sat empty, in the 70's thru the 90's it had a Cafeteria and a snack bar.

When I was younger across from the jewelry section where the towels are, there used to be a slushy machine, we got slushies there all the time. I don't remember pizza, but I think my parents always got pretzels there too. There was a counter I think and a clerk that made the slushies.

Altho this video isn't new,it just popped up on my phone. I love your Kmart videos because I love&miss Kmart!! This Kmart has a very different set up than any Kmart I've been in. I'm saddened&so disappointed that Kmart isn't around anymore,(I'm replying in 2023). Even though their prices weren't as low as Walmart prices, Kmart was a pleasant atmosphere,&I found things in Kmart that I couldn't find in other stores! Thanks for your Kmart posts👍

They closed the Kmart in Lufkin Texas about 2 or 3 years ago.. it is so saddening.. it was a store you could go to and not feel stressed .. had a wonderful atmosphere..

I've been there a few times. I bought a record player some time between 2014 & 16. I still have it. This store closed in 2020.

I went to my BIG Kmart in my Mall the other day and it's going away. :( big liquidation signs and half the store was closed off. I did buy a shirt, a sweatshirt and shoes for less than $10. Gonna probably go back today and walk around and browse again to see if there's anything new, or to see if I've missed anything. It's so sad and fascinating at the same time. I'll miss it. I've been going there since I was a kid!

We still have a handful of Kmarts here, the one I go to is busy and opened in 1967 and it's always busy, I can't imagine it closing...there's no Walmart in sight for miles, there is a Target down the road about 2 miles but it's not in an area where people go to shop so it's actually pretty deserted for a Target anyway.

It’s quite a surprise that this Kmart is the Nicest one I’ve seen on video probably Ever, because my local Kmart Closed Almost 10 Years ago and it was doing TERRIBLY!! Kmarts are Mostly Nonexistent in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Nice advice William especially considering how bad Sears is (Kmart at least as teenagers working as the lower levels of management are 21 or under but Sears is where all the old People work). So i do recommend working for Sears specifically (you will grow to hate Sears if you do).

Walmart overtook Sears in 1990 and its been a steady decline since then. Walmart has started its decline now also.

I haven't been to a Kmart in forever. There's a few of them about 20 miles from me, but I'm not usually near them. The one I actually would go to closed a few years ago.

My local Kmart in Gresham, Oregon closed the Monday after Black Friday last month. No one shopped there for years. I shopped there and I swear there would be more employees then customers in the store. 12-26-18

This store had a K Cafe in it's early days. As far as I know Kmart is one of the few stores that still offered layaway. Sadly this location is now on the chopping block and will be closed Feb, 2020.

We had a Kmart in tewksbury mass that went out of business then turned into a Sears essentials then that closed then it opened back as a Kmart then closed again but it was always beautiful and clean we have one left in billerica mass that's old and dirty but still going strong

The one In Carlisle, PA I think had the big K and so did mine in Enola, PA. Then it just said Kmart not big Kmart. Enola one is closed. The Carlisle one is in the process of going out.

Dusk Raccoon there is one in Elizabethtown that is not closing also. Hummelstown is closing so the only ones nest me would be chambersburg or Elizabethtown.

It didn't have the current logo, switched to BIG K, then switched back... It's the spot of where Google had the photo, one spot had old photos and the next was most current. BIG Kmart is not what they use anymore, though many stores still wear the BIG K logo, the Big K logo campaign lasted only from 1997 until 2000, which in 2001 it went to the Kmart logo without the BIG, which is what they used pre-1997. The logo that's on the store now was probably put on the store around 2012 or 2013 if I could guess. The logo that was on the building before "BIG K" was the old italicized K plus green "mart" that was used from 1962 to 1992, and remained on a lot of stores through the late 90s. Once a "BIG K" logo is removed from the store and the current style put up, I assure you it would never be put back up as the signage is no longer made.

The Kmart in my town in Maryland closed a long while back, prior to it's closing it had merged with Sears which is why is didn't close for a while up until it finally did. When I did rarely shop at it there never were many customers at all which on the plus side was good if u wanted to shop there bc that meant there wasn't nobody in your way unlike with all the Walmart stores today.. This Kmart looks the same as the one that was in my town with the appliances so at some point I'm assuming this location merged with Sears so maybe eventually it too will close, I'm actually surprised that this one hasn't yet. The Kmart near me did the the kcafe which was the first thing they got rid of within the store. With Kmart layaway u could layaway any time of the year unlike with Walmart u can only layaway around Christmas time for a short time bc of the online orders with Walmart .com . 11:44 That's how any Walmart is now they have so many check outs but usually only have 3 open . 😂

I'm thinking the reason why it went from a big k back to a little k is because the big k was a different division and they bankrupt that about 10 years ago and they closed all their big k divisions. I just watched your car wash video and yes Kmart did have car washes they also had keyoss outside of the stores that made keys and film developing some stores also had gas stations those were normally the ones that had the car washes.

Big K was a concept change that took place in the late 1990's when locations changed signage and added a grocery section called "The Pantry".

My brother lives close to that one,despite being built in late 70s this one's in a really good location,well kept in a nice area that's apparently still profitable.Where I live Kmarts long gone our Super K in Amherst was torn down for a new Meijer Supercenter.My question has been this holiday season have seen zero advertising📺📰for Kmart or Sears have the remaining ones had the Xmas sales like in years past?

I've never seen a line in Kmart like in this one, so I imagine they are doing quite well right now, but yeah I think Eddie pretty much realized long ago that there was more money to be made in the closing of these stores, so he just quit trying and made it look like everything just went downhill naturally.

If you were to see big kmarts in disguise, well you'd be rich then because a lot of stores that have this more modern boring kmart signage are on a lot of these stores. Mainly because the big k signs have probably faded out or are falling apart. Me personally I like the big k signage a lot more too. That and their current logo that has the red uppercase k on top

I totally would have pushed the call button and walked away. Years ago when you'd hit the call button in Layaway, it would do that old school computerized beep and that deep man's voice would call out "Service is Needed in Layaway." Every time I would be shopping at the Corunna Michigan Kmart (now closed,) that would always be going off non stop the entire time I was in the store and it always made me laugh and I was kinda disappointed when they upgraded to the more pleasant woman's voice when you hit the call button back in Layaway. When I'd shop at that store with my mom and she was back in that corner by Layaway shopping, I'd hit the call button and take off so they'd think she did it. She'd get so mad at me. Good times. lol

Been couple months (September/October 2018) since went to Kmart in Grove City as that's the only one in Columbus proper as far as I know (think there's still one going on in Chillicothe). I work in Grandview Heights/west of downtown and utilized Grove City one sometimes on way home to Reynoldsburg up until recently to use my rewards on items for home- mostly food, pet stuff, health/beauty (connected it w/ Uber as a driver to get extra $$ on side). I have not heard/seen that Kmart is going to close soon until saw comment. I know that Sears @ Tuttle and Polaris ARE on latest list scheduled to close by this March(?) that was released on Friday. However, think a hedge fund/group within corporation is trying to salvage those latest scheduled to close for $4.5 billion (figure maybe off). When I talked to few staff at check out, they said they seem to make business from time to time despite parking lot sparce/lack foot traffic. Something to keep posted and what happens at latest. Just sad to see downfall like that. Although little young, but only if all items in old catalog days (Penney's, Sears) shifted to internet when first came out; maybe in better situation for survival in today's culture.
