Let's talk about the best natural remedy to prevent heart attacks: niacin.
There's a lot of research on niacin that goes back decades. A placebo-controlled study called the Coronary Drug Project used niacin to show incredible results.
It's important to get the type of niacin that gives you a flush-extended-release niacin is best.
The benefits of niacin:
• It can significantly lower cholesterol
• It has potent cardiovascular protection effects
• It's been found to decrease monocytes and other white blood cells and the inflammation that goes along with them
• It can lower CRP (a predictor of heart attacks, peripheral vascular disease, and stroke)
Niacin inhibits:
• Vascular oxidation
• Oxidative LDL
• Vascular inflammation
• Lipid deposits on artery walls
• Triglycerides
Niacin has the power to slow and reverse arteriosclerosis. It can decrease the mortality risk in people who have cardiovascular disease. It may also prevent endothelial dysfunction and can significantly reduce adhesions in the artery walls. It even increases HDL-known as the "good" cholesterol.
Statins are a common medication for high cholesterol. It's true that statins block and lower cholesterol. But there is no evidence that statins reduce your risk of heart attacks.
Statins work by blocking the production of cholesterol. The problem is that you need cholesterol to make bile salts. Without bile salts, you can't absorb important vitamins. You also need cholesterol to make testosterone.
It's unknown whether statins increase your life or not. But we do know they have a lot of side effects, including:
• Blocking coenzyme Q10 (the heart requires coenzyme Q10)
• Muscle wasting
• Low blood pressure
• Heart failure
• Muscle aches and pain
If you're concerned about your heart, talk to your doctor about taking niacin.

RE: My recommendations for the type of Niacin. You won't have options for buying this vitamin (synthetic or natural). The only thing to keep in mind with buying niacin, to get the benefits I described is that you want the one that creates the flushing response. The non-flush doesn't give you the heart benefits, however, does give different benefits.

This is a game changer! I'm 58 year old male in good shape, except I was struggling with high BP for about 7 months. At first they said because I had kidney stones at the time, (because of the chronic pain) I had high BP. However, after the stones were removed, BP went down, but... not as much as I (or my Dr.'s would like). I was still around 140(145)/86(90). Lost 10 pounds, no change in BP. Went for a CTA heart scan with contrast, ZERO plague all is clear, no issues at all. BUT.. BP was still high. I have been taken Losartin 25 mg the whole time.. After 4 days of Niacin, BP steady at 117/71, my Dr. wants me to stop using Losartin and see what happens... Thanks Dr. Berg!!!

Wow, my dad took copious amounts of niacin for the last 25 years of his life. He too had early diagnosed afib and, for as long as I can recall, took a number of supplements including niacin. He would have me go into Kroger‘s and buy every bottle that they had on the shelf at the time. I don’t know how many milligrams he took each day but it was a lot. He would experience that red flash after taking him and explain to me that it was a proof that “the niacin was doing its job.” He died at 84 from cancer. I have no doubt that the niacin helped him live to that age.

I can tell your a lot like I have been but I lack in the truth in areas your privy to it, I know you can’t say much in that regard , I was prescribed Crestor 10 mg and yea I don’t feel right , Can I take the Niacin I bought with it and I will address the rest later , I have been aware of most supplements since a teen and take what I feel I’am lacking rather than create expensive urine , Magnesium I see as important too, I love walking fast, I will get back it’s important and I can see a person in you I can trust , I know this Podcast is probably enormous but I may get lucky , Sincerely Kevin Standow

This is a great video. My 56 yo husband had a heart attack at 46 and has been on Simvastatin since that time and I know there is a drug interaction with it. I want desperately to get him off all medications, especially this one. I am going to wait til March when we go see his cardiologist. She's fairly open to natural medicine so I plan to do my research before then. I so wish the medical field was not money driven. It makes for a lot of unhealthy, uninformed people. I didnt know simvastatin caused it until my doctor prescribed it for my cholesterol, i consumed it for 1 week and i felt so bad. I started googling and i found so many side effects, doctors didnt say anything about side effects when they prescribed it. I stay away from statin since then.

Hi Dr Berg, thsnk uou so much for this video. About 30 years ago, it was suggested by my family doctor that I take the flushing type of niacin, as I had high cholesterol...and it seemed to help me. I'm almost 72 yrs old and I'm on a looow fat keto diet and am doing intermittent fasting 18 hrs a day, with the odd 22-24 hour fast. I've had type 2 diabetes for 6.5 years, going from 13.3 to 6.5 just using diet. I'm currently on the Fall Beat Diabetes challenge, and after 2 months on the challenge, I got to 6.4 - into pre-diabetes range, when there was still a month of non challenge eating. My AM blood glucose numbers have been consistently in the 4s since being on the challenge, so I'm thrilled with that. My quarterly blood tests have come back with lipid readings my "about to retire" family doctor couldn't make any sense of them. So, I've been referred to a CardiacRisk Clinic and they think I have familial hypercholesterolemia and want to put me on a statin. I've asked to be put on something else and suggested niacin. I was told to go with the ezedimide (?) and hold off on the niacin. Do you think that someone with FHC could be helped by niacin? I've been asked if I'd like to take part in a study of FHC, which would include getting a DNA test to determine if I really do have FHC, so I'll likely go with that just so I know for certain if I have it. In watching one of Dr Paul Mason's videos and checking my triglyceride/HDL ratio, it's in the good range; my triglycerides are good and my HDL is good. So Im confused. Are the doctors at the cardiac risk clinic just not up on the effects of the keto diet and intermittent fasting on regular lipid panels? Your thoughts on this topic sometime would be appreciated. Supposedly 1 in 500 have FHC, so I'm sure there are lots of people as confused as I am on this topic. Many thanks, in advance. Yours in Gratitude

I have 50mg flushing niacin (nicotinic acid) daily first thing in the morning on empty stomach and ldl cholesterol has dropped by 30% in 4 months. I also have 50mg niacinamide for skin , energy and NAD boost requirements later in the day. Since niacin requires tonnes of methyl groups on many of its metabolic pathways, I balance niacin intake with a fully methyl B complex (containing b6/b9/b12) during the evenings. Normally you must maintain 400mcg of folate/5mthf for every 50mg of niacin otherwise the flushing effect may be stronger and overtime your liver enzymes might get elevated. I also take vit E (mixed tocopherols) to prevent/reduce lipid peroxidation with a fatty meal. Vit C and vit E work well together and combined with B3 (niacinamide variant) the skin benefits are amazing.

Oh Dr. Berg...I turned 60 in October and I feel horrible. In 2019 and 2020 I subscribed to your channel and a few other recommended channels. I was 60lbs overweight and my blood pressure was through the roof. I tried Keto and IF and felt so much better within a week. I had great results. But...I stopped for some reason and it has all slipped away. I plan to binge watch all the most relevant videos in your arsenal and get it back. I feel horrible. My poor intestinal track from eating gluten is in bad shape. I can barely get out of bed. I hurt everywhere. I am going on a dream vacation to Maui in March with my son's family and I don't want to go feeling like this. I will admit I've been trying to start again since the first of October with no luck. I dug out my old journals from 2 years ago to see what motivated me then and I believe it was you. So I know you will probably never see this comment but if you do...please help me.

My mom noticed her heart gets a little wonky when she gets dehydrated, and although there are some who would say there are other reasons for developing AFIB, my mom is a firm believer that it's cause is dehydration/electrolyte imbalance.
