Today we test the best selling impact wrench on Amazon, the Avid Power 330ft-lb cordless 1/2". These somehow outsell every name brand on the website often, but we're thinking the $80-90 price point has something to do with it. But can it bring the beans? Only the dyno knows.

I'm glad to see you doing tests of Amazon offerings. Unfortunately, Amazon's policies for "behavior" in their social channels (on-site reviews) are aggressive in preventing much negative information from being on the product pages. Yup, I was banned for honest negative reviews with test data provided... mostly on batteries. I also had a healthy share of positive and neutral reviews. So, good on you for putting info up here that is honest; good, bad, or otherwise. I look forward to seeing the bigger picture as you create that table of info.

I bought something on Amazon a while back (don’t remember what) and there was a little card inside saying that giving them a five-star review would be rewarded with a gift card for roughly the purchase price. Amazon wouldn’t accept my reviews that mentioned that. I didn’t get banned, but I tried and got rejected several times.

I think most people know the 3.7 equals 1-2 star review. 4.5 is equal to about 4 stars. 4.8-5.0 is actual 5. They’ve reduced their credibility massively. I’ve actually started researching on Amazon and spending my money at eBay.
@knurlgnar24

Amazon will ban you very quickly for any negative reviews. The way around this is to leave a comment that says something like 'Battery stopped working after 2 uses', or 'It started smoking on the charger, thank God it didn't burn my house down!'. Those will stay up and it's the only way to get anything negative posted as all honest negative reviews are deleted.

@@notanavrageloser I've had that happen too! Beat them at their own game and post a pic of the "little card" beside the tool so everyone could see. When you post 4 or 5 pics the "pic approvers" don't have the time to put each item under the microscope for too long and will approve your posting rather quickly. I've done that with similar AR-15 tools which Amazon is not too fond of at all.

Currently a tool review channel here in Mordor had been sued by a local "manufacturer" (more like Chinese importer sticking its own label onto the stuff) for $160k for an honest review (might seem not much but that's a lot of money for a channel here, particularly since there's no monetization in Mordor). That's what it devolves to if you give a*hole companies free reign, so we should all fight companies that screw with reviews and reviewers.

Not disappointed in my HF Bauer impact since so far I've never needed anything close to 150 ft lb or torque and the battery is interchangeable with the other Bauer brand cheap power tools. If you want the ability to run to HF and get the tool you need within 45 minutes I think Bauer is probably a better option than Avid. And if you want something superior for pro work you probably should probably just buy Milwaukee anyway.

I think he did at least 1 episode of that (I know somebody did). On most brands, battery protection is in the battery itself, but 1 brand (DeWalt?) has battery protection in the tools. When you use that brand battery in another brand tool you get more power, but it's at the risk of damaging the battery and you can over drain the battery also causing damage.

You guys should consider testing Milwaukee’s 7/16 hex drive Lineman’s Impact wrench, against the Dewalt, Makita, and Bosch versions. Klein and Hilti offer models too, but the Klein looks to be a rebranded Dewalt. Would be interesting especially since all the cordless Lineman impacts have basically taken over in the telecom world, replacing the corded models completely. For a look into what they are - the Milwaukee lineman impact is model # 2865-20 for the bare tool. Aside from having a longer handle and utility quick chuck and drive size, its likely de tuned as to not break the smaller bolt sizes used. Milwaukee shockwave pole auger bits chew through telephone poles like they were 2x4’s.

I don't need anything crazy powerful, or particularly durable (can't be unreliable though), just something to go where my air hose won't. I say that kit would be good for in the car/pickup for lugnuts, if you get a flat, a harbor freight 1.5 ton aluminum floor jack, and that Avid 85.00 kit . winner

I know that electrics are king and taking over all the trades, but i'd still love to see a few more air impacts tested, mostly the Cp 7748 and a few more odd ball things like lets see some air ratchets!

I bought the neiko kit on amazon, it's beeb reliable so far but struggled to remove caliper bracket bolts. Of course I don't know how tight they were to start with. It does vibrate quite a bit compared to the big rigid I've since purchased thanks to your recommendation.

I would like to see a dyno test of the kimo brand half inch impact wrench. I recently purchased one from Amazon for work and I watched alot of other videos on it but none of them give you the real beans like yours do. But I have seen alot of good feedback about the tool so I'd like to really see a number on the bean machine

It would be interesting to see how this tool lasted. Having your shiny new tool perform on it's first day is kind of a low bar, I expect it to perform when new, how about after using it for 2 or 3 years? How about after it falls on the concrete floor a few times? I get it, this is the torque test channel so...but there is more than just this one aspect and that is where the difference is. Use that tool for more than 15 seconds, THAT's where the money goes. Durability is what is really difficult and costly to achieve. My 20 year old Porter Cable drill still works fine after using it daily for years on end, oh sure the battery needs re-celled but the actual tool performs just fine.

From reading comments and reviews, it seems that the batteries on the thing don't last but overall the tool itself seems to hold up okay with light use.

Have to admit I'm surprised. For $85 with that power, it really does seem like a decent "throw it in the trunk" impact that will do the job and you can worry less about damage/loss/theft...

Maybe if you have some way to maintain the charge when your ignition turns on. Otherwise these batteries are gonna go dead in a few weeks with temperature swings and then you'll have sockets but no breaker bar

I'd like to see the brand WORX, they make a 1/2 impact that feels good, is quite small, brushless, quite cheap and has a good work light + battery functions. Its the WX279.9 model. The 4AH amp does pack alot more power compared to the 1.5AH. Its very populair in Europe.

There was an amazon branded mechanical keyboard ! I ordered it and it came in and was a folded piece of stainless steel sandwiching the components together ! Every time that thing would go on sale for 30$ I would order 2-3 and give them out as gifts !

Anyone else notice the two threaded holes at the bottom near the battery, that you bolt the tool bag hanger hooks that come with the hammer screw guns? (impact screw guns...?) So that means, albeit not very surprising, that the same body gets used and there's a sister product of this. Presumably, at least, as I can't see many socket impact users wearing a carpenter's tool belt lol (although, someone who installs a *LOT* of lag screws, may indeed use this impact _and_ a tool belt!)
