I’m a long haul truck driver with a Skeletool CX that’s been on my belt loop every single day for 13 years. It’s beat to hell but still going strong. 48 states, over a million miles, thousands of miles of backpacking, and countless household chores. I no longer carry a pocket knife because of this tool.

I have the Leatherman Micra. I have learnt that 90% of my EDC cutting tasks is best served done by scissors than a blade. Additionally, when folded up, there are no sharp edges to catch on fabric. A very underrated multitool.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the leather man is higher quality, and has tools that’d be cool when you need them. But I think overall the splice is better, if you’re goi g to go with just one. But if you’re carrying another thing that takes care of the other tools then yeah the micra

I'm 50yrs a cabinet maker. Dozens of edc multi tools (at least 7 lost to TSA for keyring carry) Front pocket is premium real estate for me so compact is a must. I will always have a dedicated single blade EDC knife right front outside. (currently out of 50 to 60 is CJRB cleaver beast, Ken Onion SS leek and the incredibly slim sleek reverse tanto Coast LX502-all dependent on work that day or pants worn) Left front evolved to my ring zipper pull leather card/fob case attached with 1/2" curb link chain and leather belt strap. Since a multi tool was a must and 5th pocket wasn't available due to pill case i attached it with premium mini locking niteEZ carabiner-locking feature a must! So i can slip case in with tool and 3 keys hanging out top very accessible or I slide it all down and with it quick tug I can access the tool. And after 25 years of trial and error i first did not agree with much of op's list (i like the leatherman micro a lot) until the end and the last few. So my dedicated multi that has consistently been of daily use that i have given most of my mini multis to my daughters, wife, the kitchen drawer. And I'll say that often need use of pliers such as one of the Leathermans (the #1 multi tool I own but isn't and EDC is the leatherman Juice that has purple scales, saw, metal file with reverse a diamond hone! Plus) but I've given up on pliers for this dudes last pick: The Victornox Mini Champ2 (has to be 2) Why? The quality of the blades is still up to Swiss standards. The 'orange peeler' is actually a deadly sharp hook blade very handy for string cutting, minor gutting, it has a mm/in tiny rule -super useful. The micro Phillips/bottle opener i use 2x a week at least. the keyring, nail file scissors , micro slotted standard Swiss quality. Toothpick, i always have a dozen in storage as i use it every day. (this is the only modification i do. I switch out the tiny tweezers for the more practical tooth pick) And by far the most useful tool? How many times am i in a situation where i need a pen and none are to be found by me in my shop or the clerk or client that needs a small visual aid? Not more then other tools like scissors or file but everytime i remember and pull it out it makes it worth every penny.... and unfortunately mini chamo 2 is usually priced well north of $45. That tool is the retractable ballpoint pen cartridge which for an inch long rarely runs out of ink and is easily replaceable for a small price and rights about as well as the Fisher space pan at all angles and upside down and maybe in water but I haven't taste stress and maybe in water but I haven't tested that. and I believe the reason I specified the Swiss mini champ ll is because the Swiss mini champ comes with the same tools but There is a LED flashlight where the pen is in the 2. I have never had much use for the tiny little LEDs to retractable pen is a far superior choice and the deciding factor for me. And the OPs waffle steel mini champ has all the tools except it doesn't have a slot for the toothpick or the LED light if my memory serves me. It might have the tweezers which is the same thing as a toothpick if you switch out. I think the waffle steel is a premium vintage feature that looks great and sometimes feels better than the plastic scales. ( sometimes with luck I can find a new one for 30 to 35 and occasionally I'll throw down for a used one < $30 if I trust the seller when he says it's 99.5%. And I have to keep at least one in reserve at all times because even though it's on a locking carabiner I'm at the age where if I have one for more than a year it's good and more than a couple years it's amazing because these things have a way of disappearing when they're off the chain. And I just can't function without one. So, i can edit this list down to 3 w Leatherman micro, and the regular thin executive which are ubiquitous. anyway, the last tool made the time i spent watching worthwhile* *oh, i forgot-15 years ago my wife got me the outrageous Victornox deluxe executive with Sterling 925 scales with my initials engraved. Of course I'm not caring that on my ring with keys and in fact I think it ended up in her jewelry drawer where it sits only to be brought out maybe once a year to polish it, appreciate it but not use it just because it's so fucking nice. hopefully I'll make it to an age where I have the luxury of just slipping sterling silver multi-tool out of my fist pocket to unfurl the nail file and scissors to keep me busy in my rocking chair on the porch. thanks OP for taking the time and yes this is a compliment even though I would never carry most of your pics

On the SOG power pint, you don't have to fold out the tool to push the lock tab to close te opened tool. You can unlock the tool by opening (halfway) another tool, and you can close the tool. I love the size of the screwdriver! You can reach deep nested screws (e.g. battery cover screws in toys). It is pretty handy!

I know I'm replying to an older thread, but I wanted to add on to this for anyone watching this video in the future. I've got medium sized hands, and it is very easy for me to open the PowerPint just enough to get my thumb in behind one of the sides to press down on the lock mechanism which allows me to set the tool back into the frame no problem. It is still very much a one-handed tool in that regard because I'm only popping it open maybe an inch to get my thumb in for the press. The PowerPint is my go to EDC multitool.

SOG powerpint is my favorite tool of all time, used to carry the skeletool CX for a year, but was to big for me, then i rocked the gerber dime for about 8-9 months but allways wished it was just a tiny bit bigger, but then found the powerpint and its been in my pocket ever since, a good 5-6 month now. Ive done some mods to it like glued a magnet from a dead laptop to keep it closed so it desent open in my pocket, and ive filled down the bottleopenr to get a flathead driver.

My boys (and mom) gifted me a Leatherman after I lost my Swiss Army knife around 30 years ago, when there was only a standard model as far as I know. It has ridden in my watch pocket every day since. It hasn't saved my life or anything but if I had a quarter for every time that I used it I'd be a wealthy man. I've even developed the habit of holding it in place with my right hand whenever I run so it doesn't pop out of my pocket. I'd absolutley die if I lost it. I agree that scissors are a must for me, stray nose-hairs etc. as you get older. The pliers, half-serrated blade and file are also go-to's. When other guys go to look for tools I just break out the leatherman and get it done.

I really like the size and tool assortment of the Dime, but the pliers are WAY too flimsy. When I got one I bent it by trying to shape think wire. It was likely abuse. My second one I was careful with and bent the pliers anyway trying to twist with them. They seem tough for clamping, but not to twist

I usually run a full size multitool, Gerber MP600 in a Clip&carry kydex sheath. I keep my Gerber Dime in a small pouch with a Gerber Shard & a Coldsteel Recon 1, that set up for real light minimalist carry. I keep a Leatherman Micra with Grimworkshop micro tools attached to the key ring with a Nitize S beaner. The SAK Bantam is a really good very light carry. It just depends on what environment I'm going to & what I expect to encounter when I get there. Enjoyed this video.

I've been carrying the Micra for about 10 years now I buy a new one every 2 years just because the spring of the scissors wears out. I carry it exclusively as an EDC grooming kit, the scissors make excellent finger nail clippers and the built in tweezers are very useful. I pair the Micra with the Leatherman Wingman so pliers are covered. It's a combination that has been working for me for years, so I probably won't be switching anytime soon.

On one hand, what a person chooses to carry is obviously a personal choice. But it’s nice to see other people liking and using the tools that work for me. I regularly carry the armbar drive, the dime and I recently picked up the key note to put my keys on my waist. When I need to slim down, I have the Victornox Signature Lite. It has the standard tools but with the pen and a flashlight. It’s not a solid dedicated light but I works in a pinch. 10/10 would recommend. But if he does re-release his version, I’m picking that up quick.

I got the Wave+, and as i can carry it on my belt, i dont really mind that it is a bit large. But as i dont need it very often, i dont carry it very often. For EDC, i have a keychain with: * Mecarmy "X1S" (tiny rechargeable 10180 battery keychain flashlight in titanium, which has very nice output and runtimes for EDC stuff) * pipe tool (for tobacco pipes) * keychain pipe stand (in the form of a leather "loop") * ExoTac NanoSpark (my favorite firestarter, with compartment for tinder inside) * emergency whistle (for SHTF situations when im hiking) * tiny Gerber folding knife/package opener Most people will think this is WAY too much for a keychain, but i actually really like this size, as: 1 - it doesnt bother me at all 2 - it makes it a lot easier to find my keys when im in a hurry 3 - it gives me a custom selection of the things i may need when im out and about. I think im gonna see if i can expand it with a compass and a flat head screwdriver (for adjusting the flame on my Zippo butane insert).

The best mini SAK is the midnite manager. No doubt about it. It’s much smaller than the mini Swiss champ but doesn’t have the pointless tools like the cuticle thing. Knife law in the UK is really strict but i can ave that on my all the time without worrying about causing offence

I definitely think the nextool miniflagship deserved to be on this list. It is much better than the gerber dime for example. Although the construction is inferior to the leatherman micra, its scissors are more powerful and for the price it is almost unbeatable. If I lost it, it wouldn't hurt too much, which makes it ideal to carry in your pocket

I carry so many different knives. Usually 4 on or near me always. I like my Leatherman Kick in my EDC bag, Some form of 3 to 3 and a 1/2 inch folding blade in my pocket, a Spyderco bug on my necklace and a 2.5 inch fixed blade mounted to the straps on my EDC bag. Pretty much got any situation covered. I do like Victorinox though, just not as every day. I keep a Farmer in my other backpack for camping, bugout, whatever. It is there with some other stuff. Nice video! Oh.. One of my daughters got me my Mirca from ACE hardware years ago. Not sure if they still do knife stuff or not.

The Victorinox Midnite Manager is, in my opinion, the absolute best small/tiny EDC option. I have a Mini Champ too, but it doesn't really add any useful capabilities to warrant the added bulk (i.e. the tiny second blade, tiny ruler, orange peeler, and cuticle pusher don't really add much value in my book and make it heavier on my keys). I also really like the SOG PowerLitre, which is very similar to the PowerPint, but with a corkscrew and assist rather than the second blade and file. My biggest gripe about this line, and I believe a major omission on SOG's part, is the lack of a decent sized flathead screwdriver. I've seen some people modify theirs to add one, but we shouldn't have to do that. Although out of production now, the Leatherman Juice CS4 was also excellent, but I admit a bit heavy and lacking in locking tools.

The squirt is my EDC, own 4 or 5 of them at this point. The scissors are small though well made, but the pliers cut too. Additionally the pliers with a little tweaking can be very precise, I use mine as tweezers having sanded and polished the tips inner surfaces to meet squarely. I'm rarely without one of these and a sharp knife to augment the small but serviceable knife on the leatherman.

I've carried the SOG Power Pint for about 2 years now and it's a great tool. However, mine had a tendency to open up in my pocket exposing me to the sharp points of the tools. I had to remove all the screws and apply Loc-tite before reinstalling them and tightening them properly. Since doing this it has been a great tool I use almost daily in my profession. I agree wishing SOG would produce a Power Pint with a more premium build feel.

Unfortunately, you can't get a rambler in alox (SwissBianca used to carry one for $250, but I think they don't even have that anymore) which means your rambler is going to be bigger and get more beaten up on your keychain. I wish they made an Alox Vagabond which would be the Rambler with the package opener and very nice second wharncliffe blade while skipping the not-too-useful cuticle pusher and depth guage.

I personally carry a Skeletool and a Squirt PS4. The squirt is a non-negotiable everyday essential; the skeletool is a "most days but I'll skip it when I want to avoid carrying too much" tool for me and I'll carry a Victorinox Tinker in its place (smaller, lighter, still has a good toolset). But damn, I've had days where I very much regret leaving the skeletool at home. The screwdriver selection plus the size of the pliers seem to be exactly enough to get me out of just about any unexpected situation I encounter in my daily life. Initially I was bummed about the combo edge but I've come to enjoy having the serrations when I need them. On the other hand, some of the tools on the squirt have uses that are almost set in stone. Sometimes a tool helps me improvise a solution for something unexpected, but much of the tools' usage is for recurring tasks. Both are excellent multitools. I could probably carry just one of them (either one) and be fine. But I like both and want to carry both.

Great video. I found that for the Powerpint you can fit a flat Leatherman bit under the pocket clip. I carry in fifth pocket as well and the flat/Phillips bit works with the bitdriver.

If you do much camping, the Huntsman Swiss Army knife has a nice saw to make camp gadgets, a lace puller and leather working tools (like a point for sewing leather) to repair heavy fabric or leather items. Also the scissors, toothpick, tweezers and a couple of blades. Cutter and screw driver bottle opener. Not overly thick for having so many tools.

I'd go just a bit smaller for a keyring knife, and use the Victorinox Rambler. Has most of the useful functions of the Minichamp, and also the correct orientation for the scissors and main blade opposite the ring, but is a lot more compact.

SOGG PowerPint has been my EDC for a couple of years. I may not be the pickiest guy, but I think the build quality, i. e. : machining w the gears is pretty great. I originally found it the most 'fidgety' to just sling open, but - using the pocket clip - it constantly fell open in my pocket, until I added a tiny magnet to the 'free' end. Now it's not a fidget item, but it solved the extremely annoying in-pocket self-deploying issue, which often made it very difficult to get out, because it would get really jammed up when open in a pocket.

I still pine for the Leatherman SideClip I had back in the day. I have not carried a multi-tool since I lost mine and found out I can not get them anymore. The biggest thing is how thin it is. 1/2" thick makes for a much more comfortable carry. 2nd is that the screw drivers come out the end and the whole thing opens up so you get incredible reach. Perfect for getting to screws in the bottom of a computer case.

I have a few different multitools that are with me basically every day. I don't have all of the options that most of you have because of local knife laws (which means I can't carry a power pint :( or a wave) But if I am on site, I have my Rebar. When I am at school, my pencil case has a craftsman version of the micra (mostly used for the scissors and nail file/scraper). If I am just out and about, it is all about my juice c2. Other than pliers and screw drivers, for me it is all about the awl and the can opener. I cannot tell you how many times I have actually had to open cans with a multi-tool even though I was at someone's house.

Leatherman Skeletool in my opinion it’s the best EDC multitool. It’s that thing that you forget that your carrying all the time with you till you have to fix something and you get the job done with it. And it’s the most good looking one from all that I’ve seen. Can’t recommend enough.

enjoyed your comparison. Ive found that in EDC theology, as in life, there are two kinds of people: Those that get the mini champ and those that do not. I have heard people wax on about the tools being strange yada yada... But a little creativity goes a long way, that cuticle cutter can be used as a bigger flathead, a prying bar, etc. To me the Mini is the best multi considering ratio of tools to have and size. It is my favorite Swiss Army Knife.

I have to agree with you on the Powerpint, bought it on 2021, it has what you are most likely to need. For me the powerpint is another example of a jack of all trades master of none. It’s amazing for EDC, not really meant to do some hard work. Quality could really be better in my opinion but it’s not bad. I personally use the scissors more than the pliers, so I mostly carry either the powerpint or a victorinox huntsman with a swissqlip. Cool video as always

BTW what I do when I have to put a tool away on the powerpint with a single hand, just lift another tool from the same side just a little and it disengages the locking mechanism and you are able to close the tool without pressing the locking mechanism.

The Victorinox Compact is the standard 91mm size, which includes the majority of Victorinox's catalog. I do agree they should incorporate some of the tools into more models, though, such as the little file in the back, the pen slot and the included pin. The combo tool is pretty cool too, but I know that, like me, a lot of people actually enjoy both the flat head/bottle opener and the can opener separately. Anyway, yeah, most swiss army knives are that size.

I carry a Wave 90% of the time (for about 17 years now) but I also like the SoG Powerpint when I don't want/need the Wave, I also have a Skeletool and a lot of Victorinox knives but all of them together I only carry them about 5% of the time. The Squirt or Dime are a good idea (and I have/had both) but you can't do much with it before it brakes and that's what happened to at least one of the functions of them. I hate that Leatherman discontinued the Juice before I could buy it and that they don't have any multitool that is the same size with as many functions (like the Powerpint).

I'm a fan of the Gerber Dime....The pliers are a slight flaw, in that the springs that lock them into place can fail if you put too much pressure on them...But, on the other hand, the tolerances at the tips are so tight that you can use them as stronger tweezers, to extract those splinters and tiny metal slivers, or even hairs! The bottle opener also can be used as a wrench to turn some common sizes of bolts and nuts. I hang it by the bottle opener too, attaching it by a mini carabiner to my keychain.

Here's a trick for closing the locking tools on the SOG Powerpint. Instead of opening the tool to depress the lock bar, I defeat the lock by partially opening another tool on the same side of the handle. That will disengage the lock from the tool you were using, then just close them both at once.

Great video. I've worked in security protecting certain client and stakeholders assets for 30+ years. Sometimes.. I have to drive across states to those stakeholders sites no matter what the weather is. I always have one multi tool with pliers in my bag with other gear and then a 2nd on me. In my bag, I have a old U.S.A. made Gerber, they used to give those out to certain military branches back in the day. But on me, at all times.. I have a very inexpensive multi tool with pliers that I bought for less than $15.00 at the time and I've used it for close to 7 years with no issues. Is it the BEST ? NO. Am I going to rip a part an engine with it? NO. But I tell you one thing.. It's helped me out in more that one time. And if I lose it on site or in between anywhere it's not going to hurt my wallet that much and I can buy another one easy enough.. There is tons of those cheap but useful ones out there. Have a great day.

I've seen a lot of comments about Victorinox knives and how they're just toys... well compared to some pocket tools perhaps, but I always grew up with a Classic in my pocket and price vs performance (and the fact you could get them on every corner) made it a perfectly fine tool for me. I could easily go down the rabbit hole and tell you whatever multitool you have is wimpy, nothing will beat a real solid tang knife, nothing will beat real scissors or shears, nothing will beat a real saw or tweezers... that's not what a multitool is about. Weight, size, the tools on the multitool, those are what matter, and for some people a Victorinox knife is fine. If you need or want something more rugged fine, but I just don't get why you'd ever poopoo a random multitool that wasn't fit for you. There's hundreds of choices for a reason!

You don't have to open the power pint to unlock a tool. You can unlock a tool one-handed by partially opening another tool which causes the lock mechanism to raise, then you can close them up, nice and neat.

Didn't expect the Executive, as i haven't seen anyone on the internet mention it. I had one in my pocket for 5 years during engineering school. (I am from europe and we never had a weapon problem in schools, so having a little pocket knife in school wasn't a problem, even less so if it's as small and unintimidating. Also it was during the 90's) My first "multitool" as you guys call it was a vic Sportsman, i got somewhere around 88-90 from my parents at age 8-10. Only used it at home and then to my horror, "lost it".(It was from the aera without the scale tools and no key chain ring) Years later, when my parents went on a trip to a different city in our country, they brought back a present for me which was a Executive. When i started engineering school at age 14, i put that into my pocket and it stayed there for the 5 years this school took. (Even had it with me in the suit i had to wear for the oral part of the final exams.) During tose 5 years at some point i found my Sportsman again, but kept the Excutive in the pocket as i never had anyone react bad seeing it. At most people (teachers) called it cute and were surprised how sharp it was. As for the orange peeler: depends on the orange, but it works for that. Thing is: just because Victorinox calls it an orange peeler doesn't mean you only can use it for that. The tip is intended to be a flathead screwdriver, and you can scrape or even cut things with the "peeler section". And don't forget that the "vertical" (for a lack of a better term) part where the peeling blade turns 90° to the arm is sharp too. So the thing can do many things if you are a little creative. During that school years it was mandatory that you do at least 4 weeks of internship every two years in a company that works in the field of engineering you do the school for. The time for these internships was during the 6 weeks of summer holiday. (so when people in normal schools who wanted to have the qualification to study at a university had 6 weeks off, we had to work. But that wasn't something new, as they had up to 30 hours of school a week, while we in engineering school had 40. Not counting homework and studying for exams and tests of course) During such an internship i was helping installing telephone systems in homes and companies. I was mostly installing and wiring plug sockets. Even there i used the executive. It's small blade i used for wire stripping. I was as fast as the guy i was accompanying most of the time with his pliers. I got so used to wire stripping with a blade that with some data wires i still do that to this day. After this school i switched back to my sportsman and one of those is in my pocket for the last 23 years. I do have a Leatherman Charge AL in my working backpack, and it became 100% more worth to me with the ratchet! At one point friends gifted me a Skeletool including the "small skelletool" you mentioned in the video. The Sekletool i use occasionaly for housework at home, and the small one i tried as edc this summer when the shorts have minimal pockets (with the danger that a pocket knife can fall out) with a bit of paracord through a belt loop and the small thing hooked into the paracordloop with it's carabiner. That carabiner is a slight advantage over the Executive in such a situation i think as it is qiuick to attach and detach.
