$3,000+ was actually a LOT cheaper than I expected and im pretty shocked that auction didn't have more buyers. It's quite possible NO ONE who actually went on that site even knew what the hell this game was or that it even existed or that it was even rare in the least. There's definitely a lot of luck in you getting that game, but I'm glad you did. 😊

Omg the second he put it in the suitcase I was like “really?!” And as soon as he walked out of the airport terminal without it I was like “I had a feeling that would happen”. Might be a reasonable explanation as to why it was better off in checked luggage but damn I could see the suitcase issue coming before it happened. At least it all worked out

Even though Cody won the "race" by getting the game and password faster, I think you're ultimately the winner because you gave the game to the public which Cody refused to do, stopping him from keeping the game for himself.

The real reason is probably cause Nick knows that he’ll make more money from this video than by hoarding the game. Cody doesn’t have a successful KZfaq channel, so the only value he gets from this rare game is by keeping it ‘rare’ and mysterious. The interesting part about it is that NIck’s video will ultimately drive up the demand for it… but also supply as more people start listing it. It’ll be interesting to see how the economics shake out here

A funny thing about that haribo for some reason in the US sells a different version of star mix then they sell in Europe (I know this cuz when I got home from a trip I looked for it and found a worse version) so now when I’m in European airports and stuff I buy like 6 bags of it lol so I appreciate this modder immensely lol

Reminds me of my ethics in game teacher, who made a game boy game for teaching kids math (I think) with a small group of independent developers, but has now been completely lost so much so that he can’t find any of the original files even by asking the other developers

I’m pretty sure he was working with a nonprofit group helping kids in South America at the time, but I can’t remember the exact country. I would share his name, but not publicly like this. Though if you’ve read any academic papers about video game ethics (especially around gambling and micro transactions) then you might have seen him once or twice.

Thank you for dumping and uploading the rom, that's the best way to preserve these things for posterity. I kind of understand why collectors buy stuff like this and sit on it without sharing, but all it takes is a house fire, or perhaps a relative discarding 'junk' after the owner dies, for these things to be lost forever. I really enjoyed the video too, very well-paced and suspenseful. It was fun to follow the twists and turns of the journey of that cartridge, and really cool to think that, thanks to your generosity and sense of community, I now own a little piece of it.

@gabilegameur except it isn't. Nick has brought, objectively speaking, infinitely more attention to his dumped rom file and he hasn't gotten into trouble for it. Let's be honest, Cody kept the game to himself because he wanted to own the rare thing because it made him feel special. Neither Nintendo nor McDonalds care about you dumping an over decade old training game. In fact, McDonalds did everything they could to let Cody play the darn thing when he brought it to them.

Also Cody mentioned knowing people who work on copyright and has to stay strict to the law because of it. Believe me, nintendo REALLY cares about people dumping games from even the 2000's, you have no idea. And McDonalds didn't encourage rom sharing any second.

The beauty of the internet (sometimes) is when people share things in wholesome ways, and you did that. Coddy may have slightly gotten ahead in terms of unlocking the game, but you beat him in playing and sharing the game with us. To me, that's a noble and bigger win than some technicality.
