The beauty of KZfaq and video editing in general is the ability to create and make your videos any way you want. Unfortunately, overtime, many videos have started to be made in the same way to fit in with the crowd.
These are my ten most hated video clichés, explaining why I dislike them. If you happen to like any of these or even use them in your videos, more power to you, but they are pet peeves of mine and I can't help disliking them, just as you can't help liking them.
This was originally uploaded on my alternate account, Tomatocutie, but I decided to edit it and upload here instead.

The music playing in this video is Sneaky Snitch by Kevin Macleod. It's been used thousands of times due to being easily accessable in KZfaq's free audio library, despite the fact that the library has hundreds of other songs that sound great and haven't become overused. Look up "Gone Beyond". It's also made by Kevin Macleod, but it's a melancholy music box song, and it's still one of my favorite YAL songs ever.

@GuyDude-hk8uy
@GuyDude-hk8uy Жыл бұрын
It *was* something different from all of that, until it became more accessible to the average person and lost much of what made it special and completely unlike TV - because more people means more profits. It has become so bloody commodified; you now quite literally pay (your Internet bill) to enjoy the privilege of having ads shoved in your face. What started as an almost entirely censorship-free meeting ground for nerds has become filled with ads, become watered down etc. such that it no longer resembles what it used to be, like anything that gets taken up by normies. It's strange how it started off being so varied and open, with a bunch of sites all sharing the traffic, to being reduced to the same 3/4 sites almost everyone visits. I wouldn't be surprised if some zoomers and boomers actually think the "internet" quite literally means e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit and nothing else.

I think overall the thing that pisses me off is when a KZfaqr just tries WAY too hard to be funny. Stuff like talking in goofy voices and always being super exaggerated, having wacky jump cuts and stuff, and ESPECIALLY being loud. If you want to be funny, just let it come naturally. Don't force yourself this much because it really doesn't work and make you look like you're exaggerating yourself and putting on a persona. I guess this might be because I'm a bigger fan of content creators that act more natural and like their actual selves, but the whole idea of people forcing themselves and shoehorning in so much (for lack of a better word) cringe just hurts to see.

You know what annoys me with KZfaq nowadays? ever since 2017 (or much back then) Creators have always been telling you to "smash dat like button and click the little bell icon so you don't miss out on the next upload" like bro, subscribing is all enough, and the moment I hear "smash dat like button" I just refuse to. second one being loud ass dubstep intro music with a shaking/jumpy screen of a channel name
@NexoNefarious
@NexoNefarious 2 жыл бұрын
The one cliche that aggravates me the most is where KZfaqrs tell you to subscribe and like their videos. I don't mind if it's a KZfaqr who rarely puts out videos and they place it once at the beginning or end of their videos. But when it's KZfaqrs that make daily videos saying to subscribe and like every video that they make or when they place it in the middle of their videos before they finish on the thing they are doing. I don't need to be reminded and it just feels like they don't care about their viewers and the content that they make and only care for the attention and the revenue.

"Like, comment, and subscribe" has been a bit of a pet peeve for me for a while. Not to say that advertising content is bad- it's good to inform people about stuff outside of KZfaq that not every channel has like social media announcements and patreons, but this one always seems to be the most in-your-face with video interruptions, subscribe button GIFs popping up every 10 minutes, and the whole "only 10% of my viewers are subscribed" thing. I get that it's supposed to play the algorithm, but at the same time it kinda feels patronizing, as if I'm expected to not know how to use KZfaq.

I feel like number 10 has a place, if it’s say, a ‘X character is OP’ montage video. Once you watch one, you know exactly what your getting into with the rest of those types of videos. You go into those videos knowing that your just gonna carpet bombed with memes, and you just turn off your brain for a moment. Like ye old MLG montage stuff. That being said, one thing that will make me leave a KZfaq video asap, is over editing the video either with memes, or just other effects, and it’s just a gameplay video or something, Like, can I just watch something for 30 seconds without you dislodging any and all flow you may of had with a meme that doesn’t even relate that well? I HATE this one gamer youtuber thing where during their gameplay, the youtuber will randomly disrupt the gameplay by zooming in on their face whenever I guess they think they say something funny, then revert back to the gameplay like nothing happened. It's sooooo forced. When they do that, it is like they are waving a sign that says "THIS IS FUNNY PLEASE LAUGH LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!". Just trying way too hard and so desperate... And sometimes they aren't even looking at the camera for the zoom-in. Those types of people i feel like are more interested in themselves than the game, and use games as just a means to broadcast themselves and try to become big. Which is fine I guess? You can do whatever style you want? Its just such a "in-the-moment" style and it doesn't feel very compassionate so I tend to stay away from channels like those. Stock background music? You mean Persona 5 OST? Not ragging on P5, that game is in my top 5 jrpgs. But man after that game came out I heard it EVERYWHERE on peoples videos lol. P5 OST is the go-to "chill vibe" background music that people use. And thats great and all but yeah it would be nice to hear something different... I like meme edits sometime though. That Puyo one you used, with the "NOOOO PLEASE GOD NO" guy about to eat a huge combo? That perfectly fits and describes that occasion/scenario and it made me laugh. But the Smash Bros one, yeah that was obnoxious. This video also made me realize a lot of my favorite youtubers don't do any of this stuff. Like not a single one. Personality-wise it really goes a long way. However, money talks and the algorithm works so I guess thats why they aren't as famous as others.

I think the thing I hate the most by far are long unnecessary intros to tell you what the title and thumbnail already conveyed very clearly. One is a problem with copyright. Even public domain and royalty free songs get your video canned on KZfaq, so people often go for the songs they know are safe. I stopped uploading my own music to KZfaq because somehow I got a copyright claim for a song I made myself from scratch without any samples or motif references, where KZfaq had confused it for something else. As for number two, there's a *_very_* different reason that people spell the word with an I instead of a Y... And it involves pink socks, a meme gone wrong, and a character named Astolfo. Some of the internet didn't catch on, however. And now there's two different camps that use the word. Six is learned from videogame cutscenes, actually. It's a bit of emphasis games started using to feel more "cinematic" in the mid 2000s when they were trying to get taken seriously, and it sort of subconsciously bled into video. Nine... A lot of people feel pressure to show their work. They get their income through Patreon or merchandise sales, and they want to show people they're actually working. Especially for long form video essays that go into detail about the subject that may take months, the creator sometimes feels that need to flash it up on screen to show they haven't been doing nothing for the three months they were away. Ten started off ironic, taking the Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Call Of Duty style "MLG" edits and using the style Doug Walker developed to take the piss out of them. Over the years the irony has been drained however.

Nothing will make make me click off a video faster than these 4 things: 1) Needlessly long intros. 2) Constantly spinning the frame, zooming in and out, shaking, etc. 3) Gameplay videos / walkthroughs with tons of dead air (i.e. screwing around in menus, not editing out / speeding up excessive travel time) 4) When I'm watching a guide or something similar and the person playing feels the need to constantly jump around and run in circles while explaining something.

Some of these are more understandable than others. The first one: Yeah, the music is generally the same, but most other music is either copyrighted, or too distracting from the other content in their videos. You're there for gameplay, and commentary in most cases, not hard dubstep or music to jam to. It's meant to fill the silence, and cover the content's own music which may or may not be copyrighted (or maybe the creator just likes the song, which is also understandable...) The second one... agreeable, the only creator that I think this is acceptable from is Dashie, because he's got such an energetic way of doing it that gets me excited to watch his videos. Cutting off, the zoom in/text, and screen cuts for commentary are good, but *only* when used sparingly or appropriately. Memes... okay, I actually laughed at this part of the video. But yes, it is a little obnoxious to see the same memes over and over, but the fact they are relatable to the situation, and the viewers reaction to that same moment, is pretty cool. But yeah, they're overused in most cases. Insane/Drunken commentary... I got nothing. They're stupid, and I don't find them funny.

A lot of these drive me insane too. Drunk delivery and stock Nintendo music especially. I don't even mind Kevin Macleod that much anymore, what really makes me go ballistic is Wii music, anything from Mario, Animal Crossing, basically all the major 1st party titles. Discord calls or talking about the video progress are probably my least favorite that you didn't mention. You kind of touch on the latter, but it's so much more obnoxious when it's constantly shoved down your throat by the creator making their life seem so miserable because they had a hard time getting their recording software to work to work with their emulator or something. Yeah, I'm sure your life is very hard making videos which consist of zooming/panning shots on images and cam recordings for 99% of it. The rest of the editing is probably using stock transition templates and s_shake. Discord calls ends up being a huge waste of time for the audience and kills any sense of pacing your video could've had. It's yet another measure to be lazy with video editing and is what people retort to whenever they don't know how to properly lead into something because they watch too much KZfaq and can't take inspiration from outside sources and media.

Are you that desperate to get suscribers? -Completely unrelated footage This one drives me nuts. What you say must be reflected on what you see on the screen. A montage is good when you can understand the video without having to hear the narrator. But most youtubers just prefer to talk about a subject while leaving a random video (like a walkthrough) on the screen. This really comes across as lazy, rushed and pretentious in my opinion. I'd rather prefer a black screen instead, at least that's more honest. if all you do is showing me a bunch of random footage without context behind it, then you're doing a poor job as an editor. This is the equivalent of episode previews in an anime (a bunch of scenes that, by themselves, don't say anything relevant).

There are some trends I heavily dislike on KZfaq: 1) Reaction channels. They only exist for the person (typically some ugly nerd) to awkwardly sit there and make a noise every now and then, and they usually take up most of the actual content on the screen. It’s lazy content, and it always piggybacks off of genuine work from creators. At least reviewers give their own commentary (whether it’s good or bad), which is *something*. 2) KZfaq Poops that like to make words into palindromes, like “SuuS”. That joke is so repetitive, stale, and annoying. 3) Using the same clips for the same exact scenario with no variety. You should know what I’m talking about. Hell, you would’ve already gotten the idea Git conveyed in this video. 4) Show clips with ASMR’s. I don’t want to listen to your shitty music, I want to watch the clip you’ve overwritten the audio of. Just fucking stop

One thing that can really irritate me is when a content creator assumes that everyone watching is absolutely a long time viewer. Here's a random (made up) example: "I'd love to play Pokemon Sapphire again but you allll know why I stopped playing it". Ngggghhh what the hell?! No, I didn't necessarily know that! You do content for a large amount of different games and genres and it never came up in the dozen videos of yours I watched so far! What, do you just assume that every single person watching already knows everything about you from the instant they start watching your content?! And it's honestly fine when this situation comes up when there's nothing to question (example: "You all know I love Sonic!" is fine because you're basically just claiming you like Sonic), but when it's something that require explanation to understand, such as the reason behind something you do or like and there's zero explanation, it just leaves me going "No I don't know WHY you do/like this thing, TELL ME!". And that really grinds my gears.

It's kinda ironic because those guys want their popularity to always keep increasing, i would assume, so shouldn't they account for newcomers that could see them. And this reminds me of a time Git recalled his Boss Analysis on elephant bosses in something that wasn't Boss Analysis, but i remember it not being something a newcomer would see and think: "Oh, i hadn't seen that one, now i'm gonna be totally lost for the rest of this, dang!"

While this is more of a style than a cliche, I’m very rarely a fan of “can you beat” style videos (although the ones on this channel are good) I usually don’t like them because they often have a very obvious answer, especially Pokémon ones which are just “Can you beat the game with just this specific Pokémon???” Like of course you can, just grind to level 100. I like the ones on this channel because the challenge titles actually make me think if the challenge is actually possible.

You have no idea what kind of pandora box you're about to open. The vast majority of youtubers do their best to exploit people to get those sweet ad revenue money. Remember the AWFUL trend of pulling out of their a** random stats about people DARING not to subscribe to them? It didn't matter how stupid and borderline offensive it was, because apparently it boosted subscriptions slightly and youtubers really wanted those extra cents in their revenue, despite lots of them boasting that they have a Patreon, or a sponsor, or both. They don't care that their "great videos that take forever to make" are full of stupidity like this because all they care about is greed. The KZfaq of decades ago is long dead. They treat their subscribers like cattle, going their way to "prize" the good ones (ever noticed how they tend to give a heart to comments that are overly positive and bootlicking?) and punish the bad ones by either removing their comments or letting their most toxic fans to insult you without consequences.

The cutting-themselves off thing is so weird, in the sense that I can only imagine it is derived from the cliche of someone starting to speak, and then being interrupted in a comedic fashion often related to what was being said, and often - though not always - they will finish the sentence after said interruption has ended. You see it a lot in sitcoms. For example: "hey, you think I could get a glass o-" *someone throws a bucket of water at their face* "...water". The weird part is that it's just stripped to its bare essentials, such that they are being interrupted for no reason, and it passes (ostensibly) as humorous because the previous cliche was already well established.

My 3 pounds and a pint on the points you make: 1: Copyright laws is just awful, so it is just easier to use songs you know are safe to avoid having to deal with the most painful headache in existance. 2: There are only so many ways to greet someone, so the only part that might annoy me is the delivery of said greeting. When talking about spelling boy as boi, i think that is just internet speech that ended up becoming part of how some people talk or write on the internet. 3: Only awful if overdone or used at uneccesary times. It is best saved for a scream or for a degenerate joke. I think it has just become so videly used is because it is a very simple way to make a quick joke while immediatly moving along from it. Also perfectly cut screams compilations are big. 4: I remember seeing this a lot back around 2015-2017, so maybe that is when it became a popular trope? Otherwise i understand why it might be annoying. 5: I do not need to say anything here, you already said it yourself. 6: Can work if used only once or twice in a long video, but after that it is intentionally used to reduce how much they have to edit. 7: Gotta get the kiddies attention somehow before they go back to tiktok or something. 8: I have only seen this 2 or 3 times in my life, so i do not have much of an opinion on this. 9: Easy joke, always gets one random guy to chuckle, also simple to edit in. 10: If the entire video is based around meme editing, then i do not mind. But if it is in the middle of a video for no reason, then i just find it annoying. I love your stuff daithi de nogla, but please just stop with the unedited memes you put in your videos. 0:32 Royalty-free music is a double-edged sword, I tell ya. On one hand, it makes it easier to make videos without as much fear of copyright claims and strikes, but on the other hand, it causes this problem, where everyone uses the same Incompetech or whatever music (or generic-sounding dance/electronic music) instead of the legally dangerous licensed music and/or video game music that most people would rather listen to if they had a choice (and the RIAA and record companies weren't so terrible). 1:20 I agree. My biggest KZfaq pet peeve. This is mainly directed at the commentary community. Whenever a KZfaqr puts a disclaimer in their video about another person, telling their audience not to harass them, but then in their video, they fun of the person's looks, weight, sometimes gender. Are they even self aware of their hypocrisy? Do these KZfaqrs even know that witch hunting isn't the only form of harassment, and that you can harass someone through a KZfaq video? And do these KZfaqrs even know that a disclaimer like they show in their videos, won't deter a lot of people from harassing the person they're covering and that if they don't want someone harassed, the best way to do it is to not make a video on someone, and what they're saying about a person that's pretty much harassment will encourage people to harass them, because they often make harassment look like silly jokes, making the disclaimer pointless because their audience won't think it's harassment?

Bad idea. 8.-) This one is honestly new to me. Same as #1. 9.-) I think this can help to make a point in how long a video is. Besides, I have only seen it in things like Easter Egg hunting videos or Facts videos, so it isn't a Cliche to me. 10.-) Yeah, forced memes are one pet-pevee of mine as well. Like with any joke, they only work when the timing is right. As for another pet pevees of mine: A.-) When KZfaqrs try to make sponsors "entertaining" by baking it into the content itself. Makes it basically impossible to skip them. B.-) Asking people to "like, subscribe, ring the bell and leave a comment". You don't need to. If I like your content then I subscribe, is that simple. C.-) Adding the "Thanks to the Patreons" section in the middle of the video. Do it at the end, in that way, I can skip them.

Fucking hate meme spam. It's just so god damn cringy the vast majority of the time- Probably not helped by the fact the clips often don't have much to do with the actual content.

the thing about music is understandable, copyright's evil to content creators. What I *DON'T* get is why they use only a select few of the royalty free songs out there when there's so many hidden gems among them. I mean, just look at Everhood and the list of royalty free music is in the game for starters.

I'd say I'd disagree with most of the points yet on the terms that said clichés are used responsibly. A lot of them definitely become grating when overused yet so do most tropes. Though for me I'd say some clichés that are annoying that weren't mentioned would be: 1. Telling viewers to like, comment, subscribe and click the bell on EVERY video. I understand that those things help with metrics and help get KZfaq's algorithm to push your content more often yet it's just *so* annoying. 2. Having the creator's face on EVERY thumbnail doing some wacky, ott expression. Honestly I'm not a fan of hyperbole culture in general yet creators already know that over-expressing emotion tends to boost metrics so it will never stop. 3. On the topic of thumbnails, titles and thumbnails that are *ridiculously* clickbait-y. If a clickbait title says something is the "WORST THING EVER SEEN!!!" then it's probably just below-average and the content is likely just a waste of time. 4. Speaking of wasting time however, videos that only have a couple talking points yet drag the points on for content. The two points you have are interesting yet the 20 minutes of filler for the 2 minutes of actual content just gives me tl;dw vibes and makes me look for someone else to watch instead. I could probably think of a couple more yet this terrible heat it making me want to stay away from my PC right now. Thanks for the video regardless!

There's something that really grind my gears and it is omnipresent in trendy french youtube channel: The constant slow zooms and rotations of the camera when someone is speaking. It's a real eyesore to watch more than 30 seconds of someone speaking and having 15 different zooms and others useless effects. They (still trendy french youtubers) also tend to be quite moralizing on subjects they know nothing about and mainly motivated by money. Ho and don't get me started on thumbnails where everyone makes a silly face, god I hate that. More globally there's no miracle and the old saying "monkey see, monkey do" applies quite well here: Something gets popular so everyone tries to copy it, without giving a thought or if it makes sense, and it (sadly) works.

The second one is actually very nice imo, especially if they don't post very often. It can feel like saying hello to an old friend. I'm thinking of Etho here, who is generally a cliche free KZfaqr I believe.

Me too, those rely on features most people on KZfaq don't know about. I rather no have to pause and then have to search for that frame for the joke. Also nice profile pic.

One trope I really really hate is when KZfaqrs will take an old obscure console or game and then constantly refers to it as “shit”, “garbage” and other exaggerated avgn type language in a desperate attempt to make it the new dr jekyl and me hyde. Most of the time these people just choose actually good games or console but because they’re either weird (which reminds me of how fucking much I hate the stupid goddamn “what kinda drugs where they in when they made THiS?!?!?!?” Joke) or simply more obscure or forgotten than the big names. It comes of as super unlikeable and insincere and is the easiest way to make sure I never watch your channel.

While I can't say much for the rest of them, I dabble in a bit of 3 and 6. I think 3 tends to be better when it's a suggestive statement. Here's an example: "I mastered Iron Tail without a tail, and do you know what that means?" "Does it mean you use Iron Tail with your d-" As for 6, I find it funny when it breaks the flow to point out something that doesn't make sense, but for being dramatic... why?

personally i dislike "sound that is much louder than the rest of the video". my hearing isn't good so i usually have to turn the volume up, but destroying my ears isn't funny. #1: copyright doesn't stop you from using more than one song #2: i clicked on the video for your topic not your para-social antics #3: easily the one i considered using the most for my videos, like cutting off dumb jokes, or when i get mad in playthroughs "yo what the FU-" #4: i would use this a segue or, as KZfaq puts it, a new chapter #5: a bit tired of this too #6: i prefer trying to edit more creatively, but it does free up attention to what the speaker is actually saying. i'd probably use this in the case of something like Worst Levels Ever #3 (searching for General White in TTYD) accompanied by a sigh #7: i know i've considered doing this once or twice, can't remember but it was a younger me #8: i'd only do this if i decided drinking mid-recording was a good idea, and i'm not saying i wouldn't #9: would do to prove a point or show my perfectionism/indecisiveness #10: i'm also a quality over quantity type
