Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known as Mark Twain, was an American author and one of the world's greatest humorist.
In rich and extensive life work, he achieved a high degree of feelings and thoughts, which ranged from the full joy of life to complete hopelessness. After an early childhood spent in Hannibal, Missouri, Twain worked as a typesetter and printer, was a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River and miner in California, and after that traveled around Europe and the Middle East. His life, full of adventure, glory and joy overthrows the death of his wife and children, causing severe despair and pessimism in his last works.
Mark Twain's most known heroes are Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn from his famous works The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Mark Twain was a genius and a giant! I envy every single person who had the pleasure of meeting him! I truly believe it is a shame that Mark Twain and Abraham Lincoln never met. I think they would have been great friends! Mark Twain had a humor that Lincoln would have truly loved. I envy EVERY single person who had the honor of meeting either of these two men. If God gave me one wish it would be to have a meal with those two men. Not to talk, just to listen to them!

Interesting fact about Mark Twain he was friends with Nicola Tesla. My favorite quote by him "In the beginning a patriot is a rare thing hated and scorned, but in time as his cause succeeds the timid join him for then it costs nothing."

Nope. He would have been deplatformed, doxxed, threatened, cancelled, and thrown to the wolves. He lays it all out in "The Mysterious Stranger". And it has absolutely nothing to do with whatever current political ideology you people currently identify with. Philip Truam is my hero. And he wrote that story in... Well it was published in 1916. I'm about to send you the KZfaq link for the audiobook.

Truly the best American author, who could create a story or book that all could read and enjoy, but with underlying meanings that only a few can appreciate. His views on life, especially during his "dark" period, are very revealing about human nature.

I've recently become, in all honesty, totally obsessed with all things Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain. I've read and reread the collection of his personal letters as well as most of his books, short stories and articles to the point that I can tell the scene that many of these quotes come from - especially Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. I actually met an approximately sixty something year old woman who seemed proud to not know who Mark Twain was! I've rarely been so speechless! It's heartbreaking to see the classics so ignored by this generation, yet someone her age just blew my mind. He will always be Samuel Clemens to me since Mark Twain was more like a character he portrayed. We are blessed with some of the best literature because the stage was deprived of what could have been its best performers. Also because of his inability to keep his money in his pocket rather than giving it to many who claimed to need it. His world tour for Following The Equator only happened because of his investment in a new printing machine that never made a dime. His generosity was used and abused even by his own brother, Orion. Just the man's name is enough to set me grinding my teeth! Mr. Clemens makes me hope for reincarnation. The world desperately needs common sense now more than ever, which he had despite those wasted monies!

Now I remember why I never read anything by Mark Twain before today. When I was a kid I learned to read at an early age and my mother would bring me books to read. One day she brought me a book called Tom Sawyer. I must have been about 7 years old. so I tore into the book with my usual enthusiasm and everything was fine until I read the part about the big N----r Jim. Well it was 1956 and I knew what the word ment, It ment me! At 7, I had no information or tools to defend myself from the crushing hurt that I felt growing in my chest. I put the book down and never thought about it again,...until now.

My ex-wife has a masters degree in English and World Literature, and she has a genius IQ, and she knows more about literature than anyone I ever met. One time about twenty years ago I asked her who was the greatest author who ever lived, and without batting an eyelash she said "Mark Twain." That kind of surprised me so I asked her some questions about it and she explained it and I understood. Then I asked her who was the #2 greatest author who ever lived and without batting an eyelash she said "Shakespeare." I said "You mean you think Mark Twain was a greater author than Shakespeare?" And she said yes. Then I asked her who was the #3 greatest author who ever lived and she said it was a toss-up between William Faulkner and Wolfgang von Goethe.

Courage is the foundation of integrity.” “Give every day the chance to become the most beautiful of your life.” “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.” “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” “The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.” “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” “The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” “What is the most rigorous law of our being? Growth.” “I was seldom able to see an opportunity until it had ceased to be one.” “A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.” “Always do what is right. It will gratify half of mankind and astound the other.” “Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.” “It is noble to teach oneself, but still nobler to teach others - and less trouble.” “Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” Mark Twain travel Mark Twain Quotes About Travel “There is no unhappiness like the misery of sighting land (and work) again after a cheerful, careless voyage.” “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” “Take the universe as a whole, and it is a very clever conception and quite competently carried out, but I don’t think much of this globe as a work of art. It would have been better to take more time to it and do it right, it seems to me, than to rush it through, helter-skelter, in six days, just for reputation.” “I have found out there ain't no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” “It liberates the vandal to travel - you never saw a bigoted, opinionated, stubborn, narrow-minded, self-conceited, almighty mean man in your life but he had stuck in one place since he was born and thought God made the world and dyspepsia and bile for his especial comfort and satisfaction.” Mark Twain funny Funny Mark Twain Quotes “Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile.” “Never refuse to do a kindness unless the act would work great injury to yourself, and never refuse to take a drink - under any circumstances.” “The funniest things are the forbidden.” “Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.” “′Classic′ - a book which people praise and don't read.” “I was gratified to be able to answer promptly, and I did. I said I didn’t know.” “Wrinkles should merely indicate where the smiles have been.” “When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained.”

Here's a challenge, for fun. This link connects to a 'rant' by Art Ward, a great comedic influence on the young Mark Twain. Written colloquially and twisting descriptive words of the time as well as the names of famous Civil War characters and events, it is nearly impossible to decypher, but would have been a real knee slapper for young Twain. Can you untangle the words? www.etsy.com/listing/113131446/civil-war-print-art-ward-rant-charles

The lack of money is the root of all evil. The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up. Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as you please. Faith is believing what you know ain't so.

Scott Ballard His real name was Samuel Clemens. The phrase "mark Twain" ("twain"=two) was called out when a river depth sounding was taken and the river was found to be two fathoms (12 feet) deep, or deep enough not to hit bottom.

I was beliving that Mark Twain was a very genius and great person for mankind. He also said that he did not fear of death at all. I was thought he is a very brave and glorious person. But oneday, I found quote of one General from the war, he says ''If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or is a Gurkha." - Indian Army Chief of Staff Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw Then I interest in Mark Twain, I starting to research deep into him (thanks to informative internet) I later found out that Mark Twain really hates Jane Austen. I don't know why but I've searched Jane Austen's quote, it's so much impact on my heart, its so true. 'It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do' - Jane Austen You see, it's completely against Mark Twain's quote while he really likes to thinking and speaking. You might want to see how Mark Twain criticize Jane Austen, and you'll hate him. Bonus' he also hates german language. "The german language ought to be gently and reverently set aside among the dead languages, for only dead who have time to learn it." Mark Twain is an idiot. If you take a serious study about him, you'll feel it. The only one thing he is good at making is convincing people with his words. If the world has full of people like Mark Twain, I believe there will always be smart and stupid people like he likes to compare, haha.

If other people have a different opinion or perspective than yours it doesn't make them stupid, it makes them interesting. I'm sure there are people that you don't like and languages that sound awkward to you, so stop being a hypocritical.

He was not actually bla bla bla..Like the quote by Jane Austen...he did more (than only say..or keep his thoughts in his ming..he actually put everything in words!!!! and we could know very much about friendship when he writes about his longtime friend John T. Lewis, of whom the author remarked: ‘I have not known an honester man nor a more respect-worthy one.’ Lewis is said to have inspired the character of Jim in ‘Huckleberry Finn.’ About the German Language...he doesnt hate it..how could you hate a language???? You don´t understand his humor...he is a very humoristic person! By the way...a long time ago, I had not one but 2 german boyfriends (not at the same time of course!! )..both of them..and also different friends...(girls..and boys)..told me somewhat the same...that they didn´t like their language..they way it sounds..that it´s tedious to learn it..that they preferred the sound of the romance languages such as Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese...they learnt it as kids..but they recognized for them the german language sounded cold or as if someone is always angry ...get it now??
