What do those numbers mean
@AndreaGelmini
@AndreaGelmini Ай бұрын
@@ryanmartin5456: stack and drop
@SuperFuzzyDunlop
@SuperFuzzyDunlop Ай бұрын
@@ryanmartin5456 The first number is the stack height, the height of the foam at it's thickest point at the heel. The second is the drop, so difference in thickness in foam from the heel to the toe. Both numbers in millimetres Higher the stack height usually the shoe feels more cushioned and comfortable over long distances, but tend to be heavier and less nimble changing direction High drop and low drop shoes slightly encourage heel striking and forefoot striking respectively, which can be good/bad depending on the injuries and weaknesses you tend to pick up. Knee and hip problems, maybe try running further to the forefoot and wearing shoes that support that. Ankle, calf, achilles and plantar fasciitis, maybe don't spend so much time up on your toes. But mostly just do the gym work to mitigate those weaknesses

As a heavier runner, Adidas Boston 12's are great daily shoes... The 2 foams to get her are firmer but so responsive and the rods provide support for the 36mm stack height for me. And the outsole is the best in the business. 😀

I have 2 Superblast and my best 5k is 21:00 and 10k for 43:00. Normally I run for 5Ks 4-5 times a week and I am rotating my 1st Superblast and 2nd Superblast and I must say I am really happy. Getting 2 Superblasts will costs you about 500 dollars, but once you get 2 Superblasts, you won’t need any more shoes for any kind of run training for several years.

Great video Ben. There's a lot of us out here that benefit from your testing. I've been running the On CloudFlyer 4, which at first I thought was too firm, but has broken in nicely. It's not the lightest shoe but has a great roll, good responsiveness, and one thing I've been really liking, is the torsional flex in cornering.

I've really settled into my Zoom Fly 5's - as someone who's 16-stone something they've quickly become a favourite in my rotation. Took about 20-25 miles to really bed in and settle, but they're now my go-to for medium distances/tempo runs for when I'm not racing/pushing 100%. Was worried at first, but after that bed in period they really changed character.

Saucony has always been my go-to. The speeds have always been amazing for me. (Especially the last two variations for daily training). Firmer more responsive ride with the plate for added pop and responsive feeling. The saucony pro 3 is a great balance of cushion and responsiveness for me. The triumph is my current ez day shoe. My last marathon prep recently was run almost exclusively on the ASICS super blast. The new balance more v4 was a learning experience for me as I absolutely can’t run in the max cushion/ plush shoes. Felt like running in quicksand.

Im on a weight loss journey which is split between running, cycling and gym work. Started at 237 pounds and now down to 200. I like the invincible 3 but it certainly lacks stability. The zoom fly 5 has been great for me which most light runners seem not to like. I feel and record faster paces in the zoom fly 5. Definitely want to try asics again, its been many years since i wore them as they didnt fit me well. Curious to see how the new models would fit my midfoot these days.

I started with Brooks Glycerin and Adrenalin but the Brooks foam collapsed quickly. Then I discovered the ASICS Glideride 3 and this one is just perfect for me. Unfortunately there is no successor in the line so I had luck to get another pair for a later replacement of the first pair that got 600km so far. For rotation I use the Nimbus 25, comfort is okay but you can’t pick up pace and feels a bit heavy as well. For forest runs I love my ASICS Trabuco Max 2!

I really like your channel and enjoy all your videos. I also like Believe in the run. You both have talked about this best shoes for heavier runners. Depending on the definition of heavier runner. I really don’t believe there’s a specific category for heavier or lighter runners. What’s important is stability and the fit. The only difference I see would be the life of the shoe based on the impact ratio.

Great review Ben! Ive been following your channel and it's impressive. I have an important question for you. There are a ton of shoes out there bragging so many different things and I'm totally confused. Reading some reviews I bought Orthofeet and I'm disappointed which I'm going to return within 10 days. I am a 330 lbs guy who has wide feet & normal arch. I want to change that by starting walking everyday for 10K steps at least along with diet. Orthofeet gave me pain in the feet & metatarsals and pressure pain in the knee joint after barely walking 1 km. Im not saying Orthofeet is bad but it just didn't work for me. Im looking for EXTRA WIDE Walking/ Running Shoes with great cushioning and supportive to my feet and joints being able to absorb the shock of my weight. Which is the best shoes that you'd want to recommend to me?

I'm a newer distance runner, IE not a sprinter. I'm looking for a pair of daily trainers around $100 US. They need to be durable and they need to not work against me when i train. I don't need any fancy enhancements like a plate. I just need shoes that will help me get stronger and last for many miles/k. I'm currently running in a pair of Nike Flex Evolution and I love them but they are reaching the end of their life. I figure this is a chance to try something different. Oh, and I'm 6'1 currently 200lbs, so I'm need shoes that will suit a mid-sized to bigger guy. Also, I walk and run supinated.

Can anybody recommend a carbon shoe for some body with low arches, I’ve tried the Vaporfly and Alphafly and both are way too narrow in the mid foot for me?

I'm new to running shoes and got the Glycerin 21 as a heavy runner. I had a outdoor 3 mile run and they didn't feel great. I ordered the Glycerin 20 GTS to see if they make a difference as they're also cheaper. I'm afraid it's not the shoe but the way I run probably, who knows lol!

i had a pair of GTS 20's. They worked well for me. Just a comfy tank of a shoe for grinding out miles. Hope they work well for you too.

I feel like the Saucony Echelon should have been included on this list. It’s certified by APMA, comes in regular, wide, and extra wide. Unlike other lasts, the toe box and the mid-food are actually wide when they say wide. Neutral shoe that also is suited to accommodate prescription orthotics which, when I was a heavier runner, was a game changer for me. By my estimation, I’ve probably worn through 10+ pairs of this shoes over the last 4-5 years. There is nothing sexy about the shoe, it just gets the job done for a wider foot and heavier person.

My favorite shoe for recovery especially if I'm not running is a skate shoe. They've always been some of the most comfortable style of shoe I've ever worn outside of my cowboy boots. But don't try to go on a run in either of those XD

Saucony triumph 21 cost a lot & were very disappointing in the fact that the upper mesh over big toe disintegrated on two pairs of shoes. Not buying them again. Hoka Arhai 6 cost a lot but great shoe.

What are you classing as ‘heavier runners’?
@TomUK7

I suppose its about your weight to height ratio.
@redwine8085

@@TomUK7I had same question. I am 80k so I guess heavy (when I compare to other runners I know). Not sure the ratio matters. Why would the shoe care about or know your height? I would say it is only about the weight. 80+k?

Most or every running shoes would caters to light runners. Rule of thumb I heard is to preferably get shoes below 10 oz. Above it is your discretion

I've got a pair of the Zoom Fly 5 as well. Worst shoe I've ever purchased. Like running in a pair of bricks. I gave up on them and went back and had another try about 6mths later and nope.

I have a dumb question-can someone like me, who is looking to run her first marathon at a very un-impressive sub 5 time, use a "recovery" shoe for race day? Not looking to BQ-just to finish upright! 🙂
@michite7435
@michite7435 2 ай бұрын
Not a dumb question 😊 I used speed v1 to run my 5:25. Plenty of people run marathons in "recovery " shoes.. glycerin...hoka Clifton...ASICS nimbus... if they are good during your long runs they will be good for marathon day. You'll appreciate it at the end when you've been in your feet so long. You got this!
