I've been in the mining industry for about 10+ years now, not Australia but in Europe. The biggest lesson I've learned is that the mining game is a great place to be when times are good, and probably one of the shittest places to be when times are bad. A job like this may pay well but always have one eye on the long-term and ask yourself if you have enough $$$ in the bank for a rainy day when redundancy comes calling. Driving a jumbo is a great skill to have when production is running but worth squat when mines are closing.

Yes, they get paid $1000+ a day, but it will generally take 10+yrs to get onto a jumbo... It's actually hard to get a job underground as a lot of competition

Pay is $410 a day at the start, and around $500 when signed off as an offsider. The work is hard, depending on your driller. Some will pump out meters with no breaks in between the runs. No lunch breaks, eat as you work.

It's a hard one to answer, if you have a crack most people make it to the 3rd tier in 5-10 years People don't like me saying this but in 2011 we had a guy that came through and got on the jumbo in 2 1/2 years A lot of things went right for him to do that The thing that I like to point out is the 2nd tier jobs still pay $200k a year So its good money all the way through Hope that info helps if you are doing the training, let me know how you go

The best advice that I can give you is to go where the employer's have to hire new starters (in New South Wales that's in the southwest of the state around Cobar, Orange, Parks, Canberra etc...) and someone that understands how their mine works you can use the sponsors DIY training program to get your mining knowledge up to speed to give you the best chance to get in below is a link to a playlist that was created six months ago that will answer your questions kzfaq.info/sun/PLgqTfcjTmB9ulPEPGxV40j_04T0lKJj4F Hope that info helps

Work as a Driller offsider in Nsw. nowadays they are looking for offsider. They have 4 year program like apprenticeship. Pays start from around $100k a year. And every year goes up. Up to $180k a year Once you became driller. You need to be a bit big guy and In first few years you have to work very very hard, you don't need to be smart the work needs your man power, even good if you have IQ level under 90 cos you need to work harder and harder your brain shouldn't think much in first 2-3 year if you wanna be successful. Then you'll get your better rewarded days good money and easy job by sitting on the Driller's seat for 12 hrs 2/1 or 3/1 living in underground at 1km deep working continously for 14 days or 21 days. Some tips; my Driller was asked me to do grays the machine but every 5-10 mnt all grays are dropping straight to floor immediately then i said hey it is dropping let's do every 30mnt (IQ 120) also there is 4x4 land cruiser he asked me wash it 5 times and i washed 5 times he asked for 6th times washing it. i said no (IQ 110) He thought, hey this guy has over IQ90 thinking and not listening. He complained me to supervisor and i didn't get call after my 1 week off finish. So first 2 years you need to shut down your Brain's thinking ability n just work hard. Then you'll become Driller and being a valuable staff for the companies you can hit $200k a year. Paying your $80-90k to non workers employed by centerlink :) you'll get $110-$120k clear after 4 years ;) might be worth.

Hi sorry for the delay in getting back to you The S11 is only for coal and only required in QLD, not going to help you get a hardrock job. With the slow down and lockdown i'm not to sure how many new starter coal jobs there will be in the next 6 to 12 months until demand comes back. With the high gold price there are lots of new starter jobs going as Nippers, Truck drivers and offsiders on Hardrock underground Gold and nickel mines If you type underground into seek, you will see all the jobs come up If you want a pathway into a Gold job on a underground mine then checkout our sponsors training, it teaches you everything the employers want you to know If you want some help getting a start, then have a look at the Workready package, where you get an experienced shift boss to prep you undergroundtraining.com.au/course_info/workready/ Hope that info helps

It's interesting the different pay rates around the world for miners The money is high for Australian miners because of their production and standards. An Australian company bought a underground mine in Alaska, they sent over an Australian crew to work and run it (same equipment) and it increase production by 45% (meters & tons) in the first month on site. It's why everyone is chasing Australian Foremans, Shift bosses and Jumbo operators for their mines around the world It's very interesting topic, thanks for the question
