I purposely waited a few months before reviewing this garbage can to see how it held up after some serious use and abuse. Is it worth the $160 price tag? Watch and find out!
UPDATE: 3 years later and this trash can still works perfectly, with no noise. It's stood the test of time!

Just found one of these cans, same size and in excellent condition . Someone throw out, thinking it was totally broken. Two minute fix and it works great. Thanks for the review.

HELL YES !!!... I'm shopping for one now.. to replace my 18 yr old Rubbermaid Ghetto one.That one is in my top 5.... and YES.. Bed,Bath,Beyond... Keep the receipt... They will replace it for LIFE... If it EVER breaks !!! These Trash Cans are AWESOME..

You don't have to lift the inner part out all the way to change the bag I don't think. There is a little lip just off the bottom you can rest the inner bin on at a slight angle to make changing the bags a bit easier.

Very helpful info. All this time I’ve been wondering if it’ll work with regular trash bags. Ironically the EXACT ones you have from Costco! And you’re right, one box of those bags seem to last forever.

No need to lift the can out completely. There's a "can park" inside the unit where you only need to lift the can about 6 inches or so and let it rest on the park. The can will lean toward you at an angle and high enough for you to change and replace the bag. Very simple and easy. Also if you have trouble raising the can due to lids clearance, there are two slots on the back side of the unit where you can rest the rods and make the lids stay wide open without holding down the foot pedal.

I have had this trash can for 22 years. Just hade the damper break can't find replacement parts. If you know any where I would appreciate it.

You did not apply 20% Bed Bath and Beyond coupon? if you apply this, cost is much less. Simplehuman products are great.

I have this trash can and I will say that the lines on the top of the can leave a little to be desired in that they aren't so clean looking, plus the plastic rim looks a little cheap for such an expensive trashcan.. Could be finished a bit better. That said the newer dual bucket ones with the flat tops look pretty amazing. Not sure I can rationalize spending over 100 bucks on another trash can tho

This is helpful but I’m still left with one question- Is there a way to keep the top open without having to hold the pedal down?

I have a different model but it looks exactly the same from the outside. Whilst holding the pedal completely down with your foot, slide the small black rods (the ones on the corners holding up each unique lid) back into the groove. There should be a groove on each corner where the rods are. To release the lids, just slide the rods back to their original position.

At 3:24 you can see one of the black rods (in his case its silver and black) holding up the lid. The rod is at the top left corner.

We are living in an age when a trash can can cost $160 and then if it lasts for 2 years, it's considered a victory. Pure consumerism. I say, go ahead and make a trash can that cost $160, but make it Bulletproof.

I bought one in 2003 and took endless ribbing from family for buying at the time a $180 trash can. Well it broke last week and I ordered the part to fix it for $9.99. Still going good. To me the most important measure of this trash can is that in the last 16 years I have never had a dog get in the trash and scatter it through the house. :)

@@wilson2916 I bought one around the same time. Today I found that it is slamming shut on me. There is a little plastic gear that has come loose. What issue did you have? Where did you get the part?

The trash can my brother made is way better than this tiny over priced can for the following reasons. First, it's twice the size of this can for half the price in materials. 2nd, if someone has a roach problem, the roaches CAN get in through the top long slit on the lids. 3rd, if you put in really smelly garbage in it, the smells will go right through. My brother made a square tall can on wheels with wood walls. The lid is at an angle with a rubber seal along the inside of the lid to avoid smells, cockroaches and mice getting in for only 80 dollars.

NOOOOO! Ours only lasted a couple of years and the pedal mechanism broke. I'm very handy so I started to take it apart and went to find very thin cheap plastic mechanisms. This thing is not designed to last it's only designed to separate you from a lot of money. If you're foolish enough to buy it go ahead, but why don't you buy a cheaper trash can and just throw your money in it. Same result.
