Rewatching this for the first time in a while, and I’m only now taking in the incredible variety of colours one can get out of this instrument. Practically every single stop sounds unique and different from all the others, and practically every possible combination of stops seems to produce a new, fascinatingly characterful colour. Now if only new instruments were built along these lines more often….

I’ve been wanting this sample set myself for a long time! In the end, I settled on the Huß-Schnitger because I felt a need to play even older literature convincingly, and because of a personal connection with that organ, and because the Trost was more money on a tight budget. But I still want this one. 😊 www.organartmedia.com/en/heinrich-gottfried-trost

Amazing!! Thanks so much! (I can't help but think what would have happened, had the forefathers of the "Orgelbewegung" not taken the North-German baroque organ as "the" ideal, but rather also considered the Thuringian (and South Garman) styles as well.... Just listen to all those 8' stops!!!! So romantic *huge smile*

One of my all time favourite instruments to listen to. I have over a dozen recordings on it. And it is so interesting to have the tour. I watched as the action became heavier and heavier. Not an easy instrument to play with the pedal to the metal! But enjoyable to learn and listen. Thanks for making this video. I have learned a lot about an instrument that I knew well in the academic sense. Now I can put a sonic signature to every stop listed in the specifications. Some of them are world class. Oh, and I lika the Reeds! Wish you added in a few labial 16's would have been a real shake and bake moment:)

How nice that you were here! I've already borrowed the key for a few hours. ^^ By the way, I interpret this Geigenprincipal above the keyboards as a replacement for a solo violin at the musique. It speaks directly into the room and can also be easily heard by singers on the gallery. Also fascinating: this Vagarr is nothing more than an flute amabile, well over 100 years before this stop became the general standard, Trost must have been a true visionary! All best for next year!

What a joy to listen to and what an organ! I have an idea about the Vox Humana: In a description of the organ I read that the Vox Humana is permanently coupled to the Hohlflöte of the Oberwerk. So maybe one has to pull both stops? And about the Flöte Travers: I think it's actually a harmonic flute like Cavaillé-Coll's Flute harmonique. That would explain why it sounds more like a 4' but is mentioned as 8' because it has the length of an 8'.

I love your use of gapped registrations, as they add so much character particularly to quieter solo lines. Oh, they save wind! The bellows pumpers must've loved that. Seriously, I never did believe the people who claimed that gapped registrations are not authentic in baroque playing. After all, who could resist them?

My private pupil Antonio has a sampleset of this instrument and we remarked a special peculiarity on the Flöte travers or the Vagarr from the 3rd manual, I don't remember well, mostly at is sound emission specially if playing long notes.

I'm curious Balint's opinion on this. I've always gotten the sense that Bach enjoyed playing extremely old fashioned (and out of fashion) music on extremely advanced (galant, in other words) organs. Is it possible that Bach, notwithstanding his musical conservatism, got unreasonably excited, like many of us, when his organs made strange and alluring sounds, even if he wasn't prepared to jump into new compositional fashions?
