GREAT COMPARISON!! I WAS leaning towards the Hobie,..BUT one KZfaq report mentioned that one fisherman encountered MAJOR ISSUES with 4 total units of his Hobie Mirage 360 drives, all failures occurring within a 14-month time period!...in addition to 3 'foulings' of the directional control cable! Many of these failures occurred during competition meets! Who needs that COSTLY discouragement, just considering the loss of the competition entrance fees alone?? Nope...my purchase will be directed to the Old Town model, for sure, now that I have listened to an owner of each manufacturer.

good video but so many things to consider between the two. Trolling motor has to be registered , thats a recurring cost annually , Battery to power said motor , expensive and adds weight . OT is not exactly hands free as you are using a remote to maneuver the boat. yes spot lock does assist but most times you are using the remote vs just your feet. hobie is significantly faster than the OT. Performs better in skinny water as well. maintenance between the two is significant . just to name a few
@BlueSummitOutdoors
@BlueSummitOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
On the Old Town Spot lock is completely hands free. You control the rudder with your feet. Where as on the Hobie both the rudder and the 360 drive use hand steering. As far as skinny water goes they are both about the same but with OT you can get the drive out in skinny water unlike the Mirage Drive. The Hobie may be faster top end but it’s hard to keep it at 4mph which of what I get on the OT. It’s just a matter of personal preference.

Kind of weird comparing a motorized version to a non motorized version. Then check out hobies with their trolling motors. Also now have the 403 and 1103 motors. Like you said price is stupid but for a kayak this versatile its the price of admission. I dont fish freshwater only saltwater and feel PA 14 with space and dry storage and the seat make its the winner. Cockpit space is so much better and that is the area you need the most space which is another win for the PA 14. Everyone has their opinions and that is why there are so many different kayaks out there. Pick on and go enjoy the heck out of them
@paulanderson2225
@paulanderson2225 3 жыл бұрын
I have to totally disagree. Hobie is the better kayak. One you dont need a battery to maximize its Potential. You can put a trolling motor on pa 14 regular or 360. And have all the options you talked about. Yes it might cost more. hobie holds it resale value. Old town does have a drive. And only offers one 45lb trolling motor. You can pick any 55lb+ trolling motor for the pa. I can switch between drive and trolling motor on my pa 14. You can pull out the drive for my more deck space the hobie. Either way great video

The one thing I don't like about my PA 12 is, I can barely reach the pedals. The OT seat is adjustable. The Mirage drive is adjusted to the limit and I still have a problem. I wanted to go back to an Outback and then Hobie jacked their prices up again. Here in Japan, there is one dealer and the import tax put them out of reach at about $4700. Luckily, our base here deals with Johnson Outdoors and I can order any Old Town kayak with little mark up. Old Town to me is just a better value for your money.

Had a old town. I’m going to the bonafide p127. Yes it made fishing a breeze but it really made me think what’s the point of a kayak at this point. Really I wanted to get exercise back. It was just too easy on the old town. I will take the disadvantage I will be getting with the p127. I just want the true kayak pedal feel back. Respect to old town though. Made a solid yak.

I really care about a comparison of overall fish ability the drive to me is irrelevant because you can trolling motor either boat. I want to know about build quality warranty accessory options
@BlueSummitOutdoors
@BlueSummitOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Ok I’ll give you the quick facts. The spot lock feature is hands down the best feature I’ve ever used on a kayak and gives you the most fishability. It allows you to stand and fish and forget about maneuvering while you are fishing, plus you can move the kayak and work structure or the bank while standing up in the autopilot. As far as warranties go the Old Town has a lifetime hull warranty and a 2 year drive warranty. The Hobie I think comes with a 3 year drive/hull warranty (it may also be a 2 year one or the other). As far as accessories goes they both take anything that mounts to tracks but the Hobie does give you a lot more options when it comes to rail mounts and first party accessories.

Still wouldn't buy the 360 I had one last year and sold it within a few months. I would get an Outback or a PA 12/14 180 version. If you don't care about fin style drives, Id check out Old Town PDL's, Natives Propel Line, or the Bonafide P127.

@@BlueSummitOutdoors Why the 180 over the 360 if you had the option? I was looking at the Native TITAN models, but have no idea what style of pedal drive is better? Also the PA360 looks incredible out the gate for rod storage and mods ready for plug n play.. OT and Native requires a lot of mods... Seems like some of that PA price stems from turnkey features.

360 have had quite a few issues the 180 has worked the kinks out and is solid. Plus it’s about $1000 cheaper than the 360 and the drive and colors are the only differences. Just my opinion.

Sure you could but $5000 for a 360 + $1500 for a motor vs $4000 Autopilot and the AP is more polished overall package. For $6500, that is approaching the cost of a boat or a solo skiff with an outboard and iPilot motor.
