Here's a peek behind the scenes - yep, we're a hardwood lumber company but I make these vids from my home wood shop. And I get a lot of questions about it.
How big is my shop, what tools do I have, what's good, and what's bad? I thought we'd take a quick tour to discuss what's worked, what hasn't, what should change.

52” fence is worth the real estate. I couldn’t make it without it. Put the saw all the way to the wall to gain the space back. I built almost the exact router table. I love it. Norm Abram special except with a 4” dust collection port. If you are in Arizona, your next tutorial needs to be on how to install a mini split. 😉

I can move the drill press and the sander around as I need to make room. I have an out feed table / assembly table next to my job site table saw. I wish I had a band saw, but I have to figure out how to make room for it. Maybe a mobile base for it. I dunno, we'll see. Thanks for the shop video! Make another when it changes.

Just a note about lumber storage. I try to collect as much free wood as possible. I have 10-and-a-half-foot garage Hight. and my lumber storage was occupying a big percentage of the floor space. I switched to vertical lumber storage and decreased the floor space to less than half. Some of my friends warned me that my boards will warp. So far so good.

Great video, gave me some ideas to look into. I'm in Scottsdale and have the same "heat" issues. I do have a bandsaw and love it but don't use it very often, but when I do I'm glad I have it. I also have a sliding miter and use it quite a bit to knock down long pieces, the convenience it hard to beat. And recently upgraded from a Delta Unisaw to the same Saw Stop but with the longer (52"?) fence......kinda thinking the shorter fence would have been enough.......

Great video. We have a mitre saw but never use it. We DO use the radial arm saw that the previous owner left behind. A much nicer tool to use in my opinion but limited to the thickmess of material you can cut. 3.25 inch is the max. Highly reccomend a circular saw. Not expensive for a decent one and it will last forever... almost. Makita in my case and only 100 buck or so. Keep up the great work.

Hi Mark! Great video and it's nice to see how your shop operates. I've built my 3 car garage shop up over twice as many years, so I appreciate it takes time. I have a Shopsmith that not too many people mention, and built a lot of stuff over the years. One comment on lighting... I just upgraded to LED tube lighting 4000 lumens. I found stuff I didn't know I had after installing. Cost $200 and well worth the upgrade. Also get yourself a track saw.

Honestly, I waited a long time for a compressor. And I don't even use it for bradnails as I have a cordless one. But I use it to blow dust off parts after working. It's a game changer. And the Harbor Freight's Fortress compressors are very quiet. And tracksaw really does come in handy. I recently learned that benchdog company makes a rail square for DeWalt saws. That's one downside to DeWalt tracksaw. There are plenty of add-ons for Makita and Festool's saws. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten the Makita and some dewalt battery adapters.

That was my question too. The little compressor makes more noise than my "quiet 2 HP" unit but is handy for small jobs but it works so hard that it needs plenty of air. I'm 40 miles south of Phoenix so always interested in details. The high humidity this summer made my swamp cooler just a large fan for the shop. Going to the Elliot Rd store for supplies next week, bookcase for granddaughter that will match her bed.

By lawby citizen, this is considered to be illegal so be careful. Having too much of work creating constant noise you will have those neighbor calling in for violation. Make sure your table tools and other heavy machinenaries are mobile or set them up attach to the wall. When building code inspectors come to check they will check for if the garage holds the sole purpose to hold the vehicle in any time. 2 car gargage should hold 2 cars parked in it.
