To me, it's the nicest looking sedan right now. I'm constantly amazed at how many people think the car is "slow". I guess if you race cars, sure? For a typical driver who wants a reliable ride that has an excellent mix of luxury, sporty, and good looking... This is a real winner. Only G70 gets close. Sound system blows away competition, the SH-AWD is among best in industry... This car has a LOT going for it, and as someone buying one in hopes of getting 10 years or more out of it, the Honda reliability is a massive plus. This is the nicest looking Acura I've ever seen (3rd Gen TL was once a car I wanted - that was nice too).

Just sold my 2015 TLX to get the 2021. I agree with you 100% - while the 2015 had some flaws it was a great highway cruiser! Super quiet with a smooth ride. Not the most sporty sports sedan (the 2021 leans more in that direction) but a really nice daily driver for sure!

@@bj10jgo I am just under 22,000 miles on it. Once in a while I used to get a computer glitch on the infotainment center, but haven't in a while. For instance, we would drive down the road and a proximity sensor would go off. I would pull over, turn off the car, and it would correct itself. The firmware updates seem to have resolved the issue. I test drove both a FWD version and the SH-AWD version and the FWD seems significantly faster from 0-60. I got a rush when I punch it and I didn't get the same feeling with the SH-AWD. I thought something was wrong and I took the FWD for a second test and I got that rush again. It is possible that there is added weight for the 4WD that makes the difference. Both cars have the same 272 HP and one is definitely feels lighter. I have seen others that tested it at 5.7 seconds. I have asked the dealership to order a FWD Aspec for me if they can find one. For those that are thinking that I am missing out on the Super Handling, I live in Chicago, no curves anywhere so I won't miss it that much. I like the feeling of a stronger acceleration. If they can't find the FWD, I will still be happy with the SH-AWD. Please note, the SH-AWD of the past was matched with a 290 HP V6 (Type-S 355 HP will be something). Of note, the P-AWS is gone for 2021, but since I had a RSX Type-S with headers at one time, I became very good on a track at tossing the Type-S hard into a curve effectively drifting the car. I tried it with the TLX and I toss it in the same way, probably because it is lower to the ground than my 2018 TLX. It was quite fun. I also took the SH-AWD into a hard curve and it was fun too. One is fun in one way and the other is fun in a different way.
@alexanderkim4889
@alexanderkim4889 2 жыл бұрын
I bought the SH-AWD and drove a FWD as a loaner while mine was in the shop, and I agree. The FWD is punchier and feels lighter (because it is), but understeers on curves and turns. The front tires also slip if you push it too hard from a stop, while the SH-AWD obviously has better traction. I will also say that, for some reason, the SH-AWD sounds better and more refined than the FWD - like, they have a different tone completely. Could be because my SH-AWD is an A-spec and my loaner wasn't, but I've never heard anything about the A-Spec modal being given different pumped-in sounds. Anyway, I agree with you that if you live in an urban area, SH-AWD is not worth the extra upfront cost or the lower gas efficiency. But if you live in the suburbs or somewhere with curvier roads, it's definitely a fun option.

@@TheBreakfastLover Idk where you get your numbers from, but Acura's official 0-60 time for the TLX is 6.5 second. Mercedes' official 0-60 time for the C-300 is 5.7 seconds. MotorTrend, the same people reviewing the TLX and got 7 seconds, got 6.2 seconds on the G70. Having a 2.0t that is running above 6 seconds 0-60 is pretty bad nowadays. G70s gets a pass since they're built around their v6 platform though.

My thoughts it would be real fly to have the screen pop out and go back in once the car is off overall; I've been with the Acura family for close to 5 and half years, so I've seen a lot of fo changes with the upgrades and car features it's definitely different when you have the car instead of viewing personal opinions and don't experience it for sometimes cant project something off as test drive that's not how the technology works like you can't meet someone and think you know them from a first date just no possible yes first impressions are everything but not with technology.

Am I the only person that likes the looks of the previous TLX A-spec model more than the new one? The rear end looks like an ILX, and the turbo engines don’t have the grunt, nor will they have the longevity of the v6 engines. I think everyone is starting to build cars with turbos with planned obsolescence in mind, and that’s not a car I could enjoy owning. Would be a nice lease though.

Not ready to call this TLX a "sports sedan" - It has below average acceleration, frustrating paddle shifting, and marginal handling. The new TLX is a nice overall package and strikes a good balance between sport, luxury, and efficiency. It is a big step in the right direction for Acura especially with KIA and Hyundai stepping up their game. But not a sports sedan. The 4 cylinder germans: BMW 3 series, Mercedes C300, and Audi A4 outperform this car and are closer to being sports sedans. This is why the Germans have tiered their line-ups. The Germans let you choose from 3 variations of most of their models... 4 cylinder / sports / full send batshit crazy. When the S Type arrives in spring 2021 with its 6 cylinder engine and dialed in suspension/transmission...that will be a sports sedan. Acura will not offer a full "M" or AMG version - its not their style.

This car would be perfect if they took the design of the 2021 Aspec front and merged it with the back of the older 2018-2020... not a fan of the rear on the new one.... I own a 2019 a-spec black....

Nice review, thanks ! Another one I've been looking at online and the more I look the more I feel this is not going to do all that well. The car is huge, heavy, 0-60 is slowish, infotainment/dashboard looks boring and not as elegant as from the germans, A-spec gives me mixed feelings, I love the seats but also don't love the wheels, no spare tire. Then, you have the price that is rather steep, I'd expect Acura to be more cost sensitive option. On the other hand car looks real good in this blue color, has decent flare to it. But again, being this large it reminds me more of the american muscle cars - without the actual muscle - rather then Acura of the past....
@MilesPerHr
@MilesPerHr 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the review. I think Acura is probably 2-3 years away from really finding it’s sweet spot as a good alternative to the Germans. This is a very good indicator, but perhaps not the best choice for $40K

@Raschaud Farmer Thanks, I prefer classy looks. My wife owns MDX and the dash is mostly same, even if updated with RDX redesign, I do not see that much improvement between them to be honest...bunch of buttons that look confusing, screen seems detached from rest, the integration with the whole cabin just looks much nicer in German cars to my eyes...Not saying this is ugly, just that at this price level it's not apples to apples.

Acura is still playing it to safe. The Aspec isn’t sporty enough. BMW M sport adds more performance than Acura Aspec. No upgraded brakes calipers and crappy 19” wheels with touring tires on it. The Type S needs at least 400 hp. Just not enough to pull me away from current vehicles
