Acura's MDX is not just one of the most popular models in the line, it's also Acura's largest and most expensive vehicle outside the NSX. With all that on the line, Acura redesigned their popular 3-row CUV to be one the best values in the luxury segment and simply the best luxury 3-row CUV under $60,000.

I just got Mine on 8/20/21. A 2022 MDX Advane in Fathom Blue Pearl with a Graystone leather interior . Acura named the color very appropriately : it casts different sheens in different light like the Fathoms of the Sea. Traded my 2019 MDX lease on a early termination offer from Acura which included a $1K Loyalty toward the deal. I don't usually use nthe term LOVE for things , I reserve that term for people / Family, but I REALLY LIKE this car!!! The muscular redesign, outstanding interior, completely new driving Platform with many suspension enhancements (Multi - Link Wishbone rear and now Front ), new Brakes, an enhanced and tweaked SH-AWD system with Real Torque Vectoring , probably the best in the business as a AWD system, very comfortable front seating ( I don't care about third row seating - Who really puts adults of any size in those seats in any Vehicle - it's just a stupid auto industry created mini-van marketing thing ), full LED lighting everywhere, and on and on....Select Sport Driving Dynamic Mode, and put the tyrany into DS, and you will see how spectactular this vehicle is. Compare this Advance MDX against the competitors : BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC 90, Genesis QV80 , Lincoln Avaitor, and the new Infiniti QX60 - fully loaded like the MDX and you will see what a Value this is... I would offer two things that IMO should have been incorporated : Acura has moved to the Intuitive Touch Pad for InfoT systems on the entire new line, should have been a touch Screen or even better BOTH Pad and Touch Screen; although there is plenty of HP power and Torque and it works Very Well with the new 10 Speed AT (which is much better than the 9AT in my 2019), with no Turbos, Acura could have "tweaked" it for a bit more HP / Torque , say 310 HP and 290ish Lbs of Torque, w/o a turbo. I am very Pleased with my new MDX.

I am very interested in this new MDX. Particularly because of the double wishbone front suspension. I'm a stickler for handling and any SUV just does not bode well in the handling department. This SUV on the other-hand is just what the segment needed if the driver/owner is a fan of good/great handling! It will be interesting to learn just how well this MDX drives. I have had my 2022 MDX now for several months and it is by far better in customer satisfaction and price value to safety and tech. This is for now with EV's power level 2 charging a distant dream for long trips and even much in-state travel. I want to say it runs perfect on regular and inside the filler, it says ok to run on regular, mid-range and/or premium. Talk to any past Honda/Acura owners who had them for more than three years and they say it is perfect and no major concerns on repairs, etc. If you buy the German cars you may want to trade when your warranty runs out or get a second job. Acura has a winner here and they sold over one million over the years and no one else comes close. Best third row SUV for sure.

Hi Alex, when you are making the size comparison between vehicles, can you please include the vehicle’s turning circle or turning radius? For some of us who live in urban settings, with tight underground garages, etc., this information would be really helpful. For example, the 2022 MDX looks like a great vehicle. But it’s turning circle of 40.5 feet probably makes it less desirable for urban dwellers. But a potential buyer might not even know this until too late. This happened to me with a 2011 Chevy Malibu. Great car, but horrible to park with its land yacht turning circle. Ever since then I always check this little piece of information. Thanks

I have a 2019 MDX Advance, a very good car. The infotainment , split screen is dated, but the new one takes care of that !!! Except for that Blasted Touch Pad . It was the primary reason for my to select the 2019 MDX over the 2019 RDX. Immediately after the test drive (the RDX advance is mover , great ride, and more or less a perfect size for me without little kids as a 69 YO ), BUT that Touch Pad Turned Me Off so much (and it was actually a few bucks more per month because it was brand new model), I moved on to the MDX. I looking forward to a 2022 Test drive (hopefully as a Loaner for a day or 2 to "really" see if I can live with that Touch Pad), with the new 10 speed AT. My MDX does have a slight hesitation when pressing down on the gas pedal. But I learned something on the web about all these newer CPU controlled cars. They all (my Infinitis included), "learn" your driving habits and applies that habit to the way the car drives. You can reset that in the following manner and it does work: While in Park, hit the power on button 2X Without stepping on the brake (otherwise the car will start), press down on the accelerator for 30 seconds . The release, and start the car normally, You will feel (at least I do), the car reacts with more response. As a Blog Poster said, after doing that, drive the car like a Banshee - hard accelerations for a few miles. It Relearns the new way of driving for awhile.

Alex, thanks for pointing out the front double wishbone suspension enhancement. Double wishbone is definitely the better suspension setup than McPherson - yes, there are high-end vehicles that can get better performance metrics that uses McPherson even within the Honda/Acura line up compared to it's predecessors that used double wishbone (e.g. Integra vs. RSX) - but you can tell that the car with double wishbone feel more planted and confident in variety of road conditions and situations. This is why I keep several older Honda/Acura's for spirited driving (S2000 and 1st gen TSX).

I like fact that the 3rd row seating area is called the mother-in-law row, lol. I think this is either the second or third time I heard Alex said that in his videos. Other You Tube reviewers would call that area the "penalty box". Overall this new generation Acura MDX is good. It's above few of the competitors and under few of them. One thing for certain it beats the direct competitor which is the third row seating Lexus RX 350. The correct name description for the third row seating RX is the RX 350L or RX 450L, not RXL like what was mentioned in this video couple times. As for the Acura MDX you can get more features for less money. That's great! The perfotnance Type S trim for the MDX should be here either sometime later this month or early next month.

I came very close to buying a 2022 MDX with Tech Pkg. I used to drive a 2013 MDX. But I am also a hug fan of Mazda, and I had to go back and watch all of Alex's video on the CX-9. I too can't figure out why the CX-9 doesn't sell better in the US. I test drove both. I have to say that the Mazda handled better, felt more quiet, more smooth, and yes, even more powerful than the MDX. I don't know how Mazda achieved so much torque with that Skyactiv 2.5L turbo. The MDX is a bit wider, and feels slightly roomier than the CX-9, but the overall cargo space and leg/head space are so close, it seems negligible. So I chose a 2021 CX-9 grand touring. It has nearly every luxury feature you could want in a mid size CUV. HUD, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, surround view cameras, etc. The MDX doesn't offer ventilated seats, a surround camera, or a HUD unless you go up to the A-spec or Advance trims. Those trims are >$60k. My CX-9 was $46k. I think its a no brainer. CX-9 is a far better value. Just my personal opinion.

My point was that I don’t think the MDX is targeted at luxury buyers either. They position it slightly below the Lexus, Lincoln, European counterparts. @mrgold3591

The Telluride is closer to the Pilot because both lean more to the "U" in SUV. The MDX learns more towards the "S" in SUV. The MDX will impress you if you need handling closer to a CUV/Sport wagon compared to if you need minivan like space/features/utility.

Hi Alex. Thanks for another great review. I am in the market for a luxury midsize SUV. I have in my sights the Acura MDX, the BMW X5 with the 3.0l in-line six engine, and the new Genesis GV80 preferably with the V-6. I really don’t care about a third row. I know you qualified this video as the best luxury 3-row under 60k, but I’m looking at well-optioned or fully optioned SUVs more in the 70k range. Here’s my question, with quietness and comfort being a top priority, which of the three would you choose? I note that your decibel readings still has a 2014 BMW X5 being the quietest in its class even to this day, which is surprising. I want Lexus LS eerie silence (or, as you say, strangely quiet) in an SUV and don’t care for the RX’s styling. Thanks and be well.
