It’s crazy to see how far GM’s interiors have come in the past 10-15 years. Who remembers the climate control buttons in mid-2000s GM trucks and SUVs that would fade over time?

For $85k I would expect a lot more mechanical upgrades, like load leveling air suspension rather than leaf springs in the rear. It’s weird to me that aside from the adaptive dampers, this truck is mechanically identical to a $58k Silverado RST 6.2L 4x4. I just don’t see how supercruise, some wood trim, fancy leather and a few more interior electronics are worth $27k.

As far as interior goes I'm highly impressed GM has been using that same interior design for over a decade which honestly doesn't grab me as a consumer and the old interior design and features were so lackluster but now they truly updated the look and it doesn't feel cheap and feels like a genuine luxury truck.

Went back three years to watch the ram 1500 limited video. that thing was $65,000 and was nicer than this truck. it’s unbelievable how much prices have changed over 3 years.

Those are not called relief maps. They are topographic maps. Topographic maps use contour lines to connect areas of the same elevation to create two-dimensional models. What makes relief maps different than other maps is the emphasis on the three-dimensional elevation of topography, often using shadowing which is oftentimes exaggerated for visual effect.

Missed one of the coolest quirks! If you press the panel on the back of those running boards they articulate backwards so that you can use them as a step into the bed via the side. One of the coolest unknown quirks that pretty much no owner knows of.

For $85K I was expecting a supercharged V8 instead of the same engine as the regular Denali.

I have a 2010 Ford F-150 Platinum and it has a lot of the interior features that this 2022 GMC Denali Ultimate has. Including the heated rear seats. Outside of the advanced computerized driving features, high end trucks haven't changed a whole lot in 12 years. For nearly doubled the price, you get a fancy cruise control and a slightly bigger screen.

I guess my mind is forever stuck in 2001, when GMC's most expensive half-ton truck was the then-new Sierra C3 at $39K. Oh, how the times have changed.

I believe the independent rear suspension in the electric trucks are why they ride a lot better than the solid axle ICE trucks. When the suburban platform transferred to irs the ride quality was much improved. I think the solid axle allows for more towing capacity

I feel they should get rid of the rear seat storage on Ultimate and replace with vented rear seats like in the higher trim Rams.

One thing doug didn't touch on is how well the Camera system works when attached to a trailer as well, Lots of extra features for when you're hauling around a Camper. Also, The presence of these trucks is just incredible, The front grill just feels huge.

I think the Ram still has this beat as far as him saying the best “pure luxury” truck. The Ram has air suspension, a pano roof, reclining heated and cooled rear seats plus a lot of the features the Denali has like the heads up display and the camera mirror. It misses on the drivetrain (5.7 vs 6.2), though.

Damn, almost had me sold with those “relief maps”. Then I remembered, “THOSE ARE TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS!” and I realized it wasn’t worth its MSRP for that reason. Maaaaybe 50k at most. Edit: Some don’t know what sarcasm is.

Worth 5 grand more than a well equipped SLT at most. I personally don't see why anyone is will to pay more than 60 grand for these.

Trucks have gone from utilitarian vehicles to ridiculously expensive toys for the wanna be off road fantasy warrior. This truck will probably never see any serious off roading.

I’m a GM guy at heart, but ever since the 2019 launch of the new platform, I switched to a ram 2500. Its nice to see that they updated the interior on these, but this is what we should’ve gotten on a regular Denali that costed 65-70k...now its 90k for a truck that competes with rivals in the 60-70k range. It makes no sense. GM is very far behind ford and RAM still. My 21 ram 2500 Laramie has a better interior and better options for the price of 72k AND thats also a 3/4 ton truck. You can get a ram 1500 with a better interior than this for 60k...its a fail in my book.

Doug is wrong, and I hate to say this, I’m a GM guy at heart, but the Denali hasn’t been the top dog in luxury trucks in about 10 years. The limited ram and limited fords blow these out of the water with options and interiors...not to mention they cost about $10,000 less. The Denali is living off of a former glorious name.

These kinds of trucks are built for people who'd like a truck, but don't necessarily need one. Trucks are supposed to be rugged, and work-ready. Meanwhile, at an $85K base price, you really won't want to treat it like a work truck. I can imaging lots of southern 60-70yo's picking these up, and just driving their grandkids around.

Awesome video! That's a really nice truck! But the screen in the Sierra is 13.4 inches while the rams is 12. The fords is 12 as well so gm's is the biggest.

I test drove a Silverado LT a while back and I think the all window down button (which was awesome) also put the windows up. It may not have but I think I would remember it not doing that because that seems odd.

I meant to comment this in your other video when you talked about it, but I think the reason why the hummer and f150 lightning are more comfortable than the “normal trucks” is because they don’t have a solid axle in the back. They’re independent so they ride more like a car! Anyway just my two cents I figured you hadn’t thought of that yet since you’ve mentioned it twice now. I bought my Silverado LT new in 2020 and it has the all window down button as well. I’ve never once used it. Honestly, I think I would use it if it raised the windows back up too, just seems like an oversight on GMs part. But on another note, the Ultimate seems disappointing to me. Other than Super Cruise, I don’t see really any features make it worth it. Backseat is upsetting. No household outlet, no cooled seats, no window shades. No panoramic sunroof. Just missing too much. But don’t worry, you’ll always know exactly where the Denali mountain peak is.

Pros: - Truck looks amazing though I think the tires need to be taller on those wheels - GM's best non-Cadillac interior yet and a massive improvement over last year - GM finally appears to get it about their truck interiors - Being an HD truck owner, the center console matte plastic is really the better way to go compared to piano black (which I normally like) or some medium-to-dark metallic piece that will just blind you in sunlight (lookin' at you, Ford). Cons - No pano roof, though GM and Ram may have been scared off of these since Ford has had problems with theirs breaking. Also, such a large glass roof probably allows more heat ingress than a small one. That said, it would've been cool to have a non-moving clear roof for the back seat, kinda like what the old Malibu Maxx used to have. - The towing and payload capacities for this thing take a big hit; I think this truck will do 9000-9500 lbs max towing? Payload I'd imagine is probably around 1200? - The easter eggs are all just the same thing - Denali and relief mapping w/ coordinates. What about a relief of the mountain scene around and including the mountain? What about embossing an overhead map view and Denali's location? Denali with a bear and salmon in the foreground when the screen boots up? Limited imagination was put into this. At the end of the day, this will be THE work-capable city-center white collar commuter traffic truck.

Why is GMC only doing ‘appearance packages’ across their lines and overcharging for them these days? When most other manufacturers add extra power and performance to their top of the line vehicles.

I've now owned 2 "luxury" trucks- a f250 king ranch and a ram limited. Both trucks experienced unfixable problems and the Ram was returned as a lemon. More expensive seems to mean less reliability.

I think it looks like a good upgrade from prior generation, but my Ram Limited still seems way more "luxurious" than this. Particularly in the back seat area. That back seat area is very sparse here. My Ram has full climate controls (seat heating and cooling in the rear), multiple USB options, 115 plug, etc... and think it is less expensive. Though I do welcome the competition as it will only force improvements on all companies

I've seen many trucks, but the design of GMC trucks truly stands out. They're powerful and stylish!
