The climate and media control combo is interesting. I didn't like the idea at first, but then I realized that I never really use any other media controls than the ones on the steering wheel. If I had this car, I'd probably just leave the climate controls up most of the time, with my phone connecting to the car and playing music automatically.

I think the climate control volume situation is genius. It's not used as often once everything is set. I guess car reviewers forget that most cars are driven by the same person and once everything is set to desired temperature, you don't need to fiddle with it every day.
@QarthCEO

Wrong, I mess with both whenever the temperature changes. Sometimes in the winter I'm wearing heavier clothing and I want it colder, sometimes I'm wearing lighter clothing and I want it warmer, sometimes it's warm enough outside and I just want the AC off, sometimes it's really, really cold and I want it heating on max until I'm not cold anymore. Climate control is an important control to have, and a dial is the obviously best method of controlling it while driving.

I think the climate/radio button set up is innovative. Makes the cabin more minimalistic but useable and doesn’t put everything in the screen. Also is Doug the only one who cares about music titles in the gauge cluster? I never use that function in my car 🤷🏼‍♂️
@Ravenousjoe
@Ravenousjoe 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I never understood his complaint about that. When I listen to my music, I can identify 1000+ songs within the first second. Also with more "difficult" controls in the dash, it just pushes you to use the proper controls while driving, and paying attention to the road: the steering wheel. If a passenger needs to use it, they have plenty of attention to give.

5:35 I actually like the idea of the climate control being the same as the radio. A bit ingenious actually. KIA probably realised that no one really needs to constantly fiddle with the climate controls during a trip. You have to think from a consumer perspective. The modern consumer controls the entire radio through the steering wheel it self. So radio controls in the center become irrelevant unless the passenger chooses to play with it.

Now i have to take my eyes off the road, look at the stupid capacitive touch buttons and make sure im touching the right one to get to my radio. Might not be an issue for all but definitely some! I bought an EV6 several days ago. Some notes on this video: 1) The button to switch between climate controls and radio stuff is totally fine. It's much better than having everything buried in menus in a screen (like Tesla). 2) The way you close the charge door from outside the car is by simply pressing the top button next to the charging port. You don't need to push on it. 3) I assume it's on the modem you are reviewing, but there are four drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. Hold the button, and it will activate snow mode.

I completely agree with you regarding the radio/climate. My opinion is this. I typically set the climate control to automatic, set the temp I want and leave it, no need to really fiddle with it unless the manufacturer did a bad job of heating or cooling based off the temp you select. Once you set climate, pop over to the radio and leave it there. Manufacturers have been doing the auto climate thing for so long I'm surprised you even need that many controls, should be a set and forget component. This wouldn't bother me one bit. Also, Kia did a solid by having the heated/cooled seat controls removed from the infotainment system and placed as buttons. This is one of the best systems I've seen, definitely on the short list if purchasing an EV.

If I pull up in my drive, without fail someone pulls in behind me and "I will only be 1 minute (bull roar)." But, when I have friends visiting and want to give them space off the street, I have to go out and pull forward....and then back....Oh yeah, I like that feature...Kia used to be a not so great car, but they have changed...wow, have they :) Thanks for the review.

I think it looks much much better in red, or black though, kinda pity that he went for silver. I was not aware that it was based on the Ioniq, which i also think looks great, but i do think the EV6 wins it for me, because of the more aggressive front and stylish back.

22:10 A Honda CR-V is about 3400lbs. This is from the IIHS website. They list vehicle weights there as part of vehicle data measurements during crash testing. It's amazing how most vehicles come in between 3000-3500 lbs, including many crossovers. Midsize and large SUVs are more, but compact cars usually aren't that much less. The VW Golf is not less, for example. Few exceptions exist to this rule, namely a number of Mazda models.

I have one of these (or rather my wife does) as its been out a while here in the UK. I think Doug rushed this as he made a few mistakes and missed a few important points. 1. You CAN configure the LED lights to be any colour you want, or the default is that it changes with the Drive mode, Eco = Green, Standard = Blue, Sport = RED in the same way the dash display does too. 2. You CAN see the radio station AND track easily. The infotainment screen has a 60/40 split mode where you can have the Nav and the Radio up at the same time. The smaller portion of the split display can show sever things, including the radio/track and you can swipe up and down to po from weather, radio, clock, compass and other things. It also shows the station on the main dash as you change stations or tracks. 3. On the lower models the heated seat buttons are not capacitive, only "normal" but who cares (oh its because the swap mode between hot and cold) 4. The climate/radio thing is very very easy to use after about 5 mins of living with it. 5. This is one of the FASTEST charging EV there is, 800v charging so you can go from something like 15% to full in under 30Min, It smashed the Tesla cross US record but was then beaten by Porsche. 6. V2L allows you to power "mains" devices, the external one might be a bit of a gimmick but the internal one is brilliant for laptops and stuff 7. There is a lot of L2 automation in that car, LOTS, maybe its because my last car was 11 years old, but its a spaceship to me. Top spec one will self park from the Fob, not just fore/back. 8. There is a lot of App stuff for the car, I think Apple unlock is on the way but even now I can remote lock, charge, schedule heating etc. 9. PRICE, in the UK our mid spec was about £43k the trim Doug reviews is about £50k, I dont knwo how the US rates will go but its not a "cheap kia" 10 The meridian stereo ones have a funky cyber sound you can configure to make fake engine noise inside (not the external one thats default for pedestrian warning) It a great car, we love ours we get stopped by strangers who ask about it and Yacht Blue is the colour to have.

The ambient lighting can be changed, loads of different colours are available, also there are media controls on the steering wheel and the multi select panel can be made to default to your preferred option, so you can select climate then after 10 seconds it will change back to radio or vice versa. Also, as most will be using android auto or apple car play, the media options will not be used that often. Also Also, there is voice control for some commands.

Right! You definitely can change the color. It's the ambient lighting and it's in the settings. @@mev202 I'm calm, don't worry. :) I mean, he's an automotive journalist reviewing cars for living and has 4+M subscribers. So I do hold him to lot higher standard than other reviewers, because he gets early access and probably lot more manufacturer support. In the recent videos I've noticed some of these where he guesses or doesn't bother checking. His videos are entertaining and enjoyable, but it does make me sometimes wonder. Same thing with the charge door - there's literally a button next to the charge port that shows a symbol of the lid closing. Maybe it's not bad for the door motor to be pushed until it starts closing like Doug did it, but it's the small things man! Maybe I notice too much stuff most people don't care about.

@@richardnavratil9661 I agree, Doug should be more professional. I watched a lot of videos about the EV6 (I have one on my driveway now) and never seen a reviewer pushing the charge door, that button is so obvious. Also, how can you not think a modern car can change the ambient lights colors? I think this just shows that the video was made in a hurry. I hope Doug adds some text to the video and corrects these small errors. Still was pretty excited to see him reviewing it, although I have the car already.

One benefit of the gob controlled forward and back is trying to open the hatch in low ceiling areas. Where I park my daily the roof gets lower the farther in your drive. I refer to back in, but can't if I need to open the hatch. With that feature I could back in, then use that function to pull it forward, un/load the back, and then put it back where is normally is without having to turn it around. I took my F350 for a camping trip once and we were forced to valet it at a restaurant. It was easy four feet longer than anything else in the row and they had a hard time getting in and out. That feature would have helped in that situation too.

Having to find a capacitive touch button just to use the volume knob almost makes the car not have a volume knob in practice.

But it’s usually 1 step process in most other cars, but here is a 2-step process, and it can sometimes confuses you to make the wrong adjustments, for example, you want to turn the volume up or down, then after you turn the knob, you realize it’s currently displayed in Climate control menu, so you actually turn the temperature up or down. Also you have to take your eyes off the road to see down there what is currently displaying.

So much of this review fails to mention what makes the EV6 better than the competition. Here are a few examples, sunroof that actually opens. Much faster charging times. Android Auto/Car Play. Somewhat disappointed in this review, historically Doug has done so well with reviewing vehicles. Based on many of the comments here, he was off the mark by spending so much time talking about being inconvenienced by the climate control/audio controls being on the same panel. Perhaps when the GT is released he’ll have a different viewpoint. I also can assume that Kia is going to sell a lot of these and that will also change his tune.

When it's 10 degrees out I want hot air blowing on my hands. Then when it's warmed up I want to turn down the temp. Then when it's comfortable I want to change to the floor vents. At various times I adjust the temperature as needed. For media and radio I'm probably 50/50 between using the wheel controls and the central controls/screen. I think some software changes could improve things but to me this sounds very annoying and I see I'm far from the only one to think that.
@man_on_wheelz
@man_on_wheelz 2 жыл бұрын
@@kamX-rz4uy Well, if you’ve ever driven a car with automatic climate controls and paid attention to what it does, you’ll notice it does a few things to try and optimize your climate controlled experience, to a point you don’t really need to touch anything while it’s doing it’s thing. All cars are different but let me tell you what mine does on a cold day. When I first start the car, it blows nothing. The system is on, but the fans are off for now because it knows I just started the car, there is no heat yet. Once the engine temperature starts to rise it kicks the climate fan on high speed, high heat, through the defroster ports (possibly my feet too but I’m usually so bundled up I can’t feel for it) because it knows being this cold out, your windows must need to be warmed up as well, you’ll still feel the warm air blow on your face because the windshield is at your face anyway. What I do to warm up my hands in this time is put my hand over the side window defroster vent, works exactly the same as if I’d directed it to my face. Once the interior has warmed up a bit it directs more air flow to the floor and decreases fan speed. Hot air rises, warming the floor will assure the car warms up bottom to top. If you’ve been driving for quite some time and you’ve got your temp set to a certain comfortable temperature, the car may lean the hot-cold blend more towards cold to try and regulate that set temperature, but it will never stop the fan circulating air. It will balance back and forth between the two as long as you continue driving and it may never blow through the face vent the whole trip, but you’re warm, you’re comfortable, and you didn’t have to touch a thing. That’s how my car does it and a lot of others I’ve driven. This is why I don’t feel the need to mess with the climate controls beyond setting the desired temperature.
@kamX-rz4uy
@kamX-rz4uy 2 жыл бұрын
@@man_on_wheelz If it works for you that's great but I like more control because I like to have specific temperatures and air flow direction at times that's different than what the car likes to do. Some days I don't touch it at all, other days I do a lot of adjustments. Have used automatic controls for a lot of years now and they have gotten better over time but there are still many times that I do adjustments. I see others doing the same. Automatic controls are nice and decrease interaction but not enough to relegate the controls to second class.
