2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid review by The Straight Pipes. The Kia Sportage HEV is putting down 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque from a 1.6L Turbo 4 cylinder hybrid engine. At $42,695 CAD, would you take it over the Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V, Toyota Venza, Toyota Rav4 Hybrid, Ford Escape?

If you press and hold the HVAC button that switches the screens, it'll let you set one or the other as a default so, say you set heating controls as default, if you go to the other menu and pull your hand away, it should go back to HVAC settings on its own.

This would be a great solution if you're someone who rarely changes the climate or rarely changes the audio. But I think most people change both pretty regularly, so it doesn't really address the annoyance of constantly having to change modes before being able to do what you want.

Not awesome MPG, in the real world it performs WAY under EPA rating. We bought a Sportage EX for my husband and a turbo Rogue S for myself, and we get quite a bit better mileage on my car on our trips to Austin and San Antonio from Houston, about 4mpg higher on average when going 70-75mph.

I have no problem with the dual function climate/audio control. I think it is ingenious to allow dials and touch. I prefer the Sportage interior over the Tucson interior. You did not cover the heated wind shield that is provided by the Sportage climate controls. I also like the bigger infotainment screen and the Sportage has a SPARE TIRE which the Tucson does not provide. I l like the Tucson but am favoring the total package the Sportage Hybrid brings.

The large Tucson control screen is modified on the 2025 model. But they need to make changes to the touch sensitive Locking controls on front door handles---they can be very hard to use in the rain. Kia uses easy to locate lock buttons. Both models can automatically turn on the air conditioning compressor if high humidity is detected. But the Tucson has a Diffuse setting that uses special vents & heat/defroster vents to cool or heat without blowing air on your face---very comfortable.

Leave it at Climate Control and use Auto. Whatever temp you set it will keep it at that temp. Then use Steering wheel to control media. At your thumb! Go ahead and try it. It is so easy. I think how they did that screen is very smart. With just one click you can switch back and forth if necessary. But I think most users will use it the way I described. I would. Yup, I looked at the non-hybrid and tested that when it came out, then tested the hybrid - was waiting for the PHEV version but the dealer markup makes it $50k. Plus you can't custom order a vehicle and won't do dealer to dealer trades, so whatever they have are your choices. Given that dealers are getting single digit cars a week, the chances of getting a car with exactly what you want are slim to none. It was a no for me, I bought a different car instead.
@ckm-mkc
@ckm-mkc 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheStraightPipes Questionable if that would make any difference, I talked to all the dealers with 100 miles of my house and they ALL had the same line, inventory restrictions and markups. They have zero incentive to lower prices for anyone, most of the dealer inventory was sold out 2-3 weeks before the cars even arrived. Note this is not a BS line, a dealer I know pretty well showed me Kia's inventory control system and 70% of the cars were already sold....

I love the look of the Sportage's interior over the Tucson, but I'm wondering how the "Leatherette" of the Sportage holds up and actually feels comfort wise compared with the real leather interior of the Tucson...🤔

As the primary driver...I would only ever use that bar to adjust HVAC and use the steering wheel controls for the volume, radio, etc. My current vehicle...I never touch the audio controls on the centre stack. Those buttons have literally never been touched since the first day I owned the vehicle which is like 10 years ago. I would set the HVAC controls to show as default and never need to switch modes...like ever.

I like both the Tucson and the Sportage. I like that the Sportage has a compact spare tire. Also, as far as the pronunciation I get more annoyed with Mazda, but I really don't care with the Sportage, since it's goofy either way, LOL.

Sounds like it’s under damped. Damping controls the springs, so over damped would too strongly stop the spring from compressing or rebounding and be jarring rather than floaty

I don't much care for the heat/volume double function 'button' either. I haven't like the DIAL shifter in any car or truck since they started coming out with these. I like a handle either on the floor or in the tree as they say....maybe I'm just too old school. The design on the outside I like. I have always leaned more Kia than Hyundai in styling. Quality thought, both have seriously come such a long way since their inception! I remember those old cars!

Hyundai has more bling. But I don't like the boomerang front-end at all. Thing is, quirky styles go out of style real quick. Anyway, Kia is typically the more conservative of the two.

I’d be willing to recommend this to others if the dealer network here in Texas wasn’t so corrupt. They’ve been charging huge markups on Tellurides ($5k initially, $15k in early 2021) since late 2019, and have put huge markups on the Seltos and Sorento since those models launched. It’s even worse now.

@jon368100
@jon368100 2 жыл бұрын
@@raceboy1971 not really. You don't see best buy adding upcharges to iphones around the launch of the new models. They do it because there are only a few Kia dealer groups in Texas, so consumers have ultra limited options here. For example: one company owns all of the Kia dealers in Austin and most in Dallas. That means they can fix the price.
@raceboy1971
@raceboy1971 2 жыл бұрын
@@jon368100 You literally just described market based pricing! LOL Phone's are sold at a loss to sell the service so not analogous in any way. Why should the dealer be forced to take less money when someone else is willing to pay more? Makes zero sense and will only cause further shortages and longer waits. Econ 101 again.
@tommymas1
@tommymas1 2 жыл бұрын
@@raceboy1971 You're absolutely wrong. It's Corrupt 101. You should be able to spec out the vehicle you want at cost from their website. There is no reason for them to charge a mark up price other than pure greed. They were priced by the manufacturer to already make money. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

@12100ji 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheStraightPipes I owned the 2023 Sportage for a month now and I found that switching audio sources via the steering wheel "MODE" button will also change the screen. E.g I switch the audio source to Radio and my screen will automatically exit Carplay and goes to the Radio screen. If I switch audio back to Carplay, then the screen automatically switches back to Carplay. Also my screen automatically switches to Carplay when I plug my phone in. I have not needed to press the shortcut to Carplay in quite some time. Also I think a lot of people nowadays just live in Carplay/Android Auto and the Radio/Nav buttons are useless to them. If they use Radio/SiriusXM then I can see the buttons being inconvenient.
