Check out the Fuel EX here: bit.ly/3WA8jnW
In this video I review the 2023 Trek Fuel EX 5 Gen 5. This is an aluminum full suspension mountain bike built for all mountain trail riding, from cross country to even enduro. I go over all the specs on this bike (color Matte Dnister Black), weigh it in a size large, and ride it at the end of the video to compare it to the Trek Fuel EX 7, Fuel EX 8, and the Trek Roscoe bikes. Hope this helps!

I just picked up this bike in new condition for $1000 usd and really is amazing, upgrading from a 20yr old specialized 40lb bike. Gotta put some miles in to hit some trails. Do you do your own maintenance on your bikes or pay a bike shop?

I saved for months and was torn between the 2023 Fuel EX 5 and a 2022 Roscoe 8. I chose the Fuel EX 5 even though it cost $400 more. It's crazy expensive but I don't regret going with a full suspension over a hardtail. I'm upgrading from a Giant Talon 2.

Hi, I am torn between the Roscoe 7 and the Fuel EX 5. I am a beginner to mountain biking but I have been a road cyclist for many years. I have seen your videos on the Roscoe 7 and I know that you do own it. After riding this one, do you think I should just stick with the Roscoe 7 or spend the extra for this bike? I kind of want to future proof my bike - I'm not a risk taker so I wont be doing huge jumps but I just want something comfortable I can do regular trail stuff on. Thanks

Awesome bike but I do wonder why Trek decided to sell it with those super wide tyres though. Not even DH bikers (pros) ride tyres that wide in their super machines, let alone a trail bike like this. 2.4 is optimal for trail and Enduro.

I'm trying to decide if i should cough up the $ for this vs a lot cheaper Polygon D7. I would love to shop local. I can get this one for 2200 and the poly for 1,500. Is it a get what you payfor situation, a no comparison situation or save the 700 situation. Keep in mind its a stretch to pay for either but i wantt to buy value. Thanks for any help. All opinons welcome.

Do you think the new fuel 5 will ever be released with the new frame, or will it be like the Roscoe lineup and have a different frame on the lowest end model?
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB Жыл бұрын
Not completely sure but they already released all of them and there’s no 5 in the new frame design. Unless they’ll release it later but that would be strange in my opinion. I don’t know for sure but my bet is that the new frame will just start at the 7 for now

That's just a hole in the frame that has a spot to add a zip tie to prevent the internally routed cables of the bike from rattling around and making noise. It should be ziptied from the factory so you shouldn't have to worry about it

Wouldn't be surprised if the prices start dropping soon. Specialized has already started because nothing is selling and they have made to many bikes. This bike is way to expensive for what they give you. The parts are super cheap and need to be upgraded right away, I really like the frame though. I would get one if it went on sale. Price needs to drop at least $600 for what it gives you. I'd say pay $2000 at the most for this bike. Marin gives you a much better full suspension that's cheaper with better parts. Trek is just like specialized over pricing their stuff by at least $1000.

I’m between fuel ex 5 and the trek procal 9.6. Any suggestions?
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB Жыл бұрын
I love my procaliber, it’s a pretty fast and lightweight bike, but it will be less comfortable on rough trails because it lacks the dual suspension. I’d still choose it though since the fuel ex 5 is pretty entry level for a full suspension and i’d prefer to start at the fuel ex 7 level. If you are fine with upgrading parts in the future the fuel could work better, but as a bike to keep stock the procaliber is awesome!

@@TalalipopMTBI'm surprised you don't know that as someone that is working with bikes. There is categories for bikes that suggest what they are built for, like a category 4 bike which I'm assuming this is, is made for trails and jumps up to about 50cm, a Category 5 bike would be an Enduro, starting at around 160mm suspension travel, made for more rough terrain, and up to 1meter jumps, and then there is Category 6, which is basically downhill bikes for professionals with 200mm+.

The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. kzfaq.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.

@@daispatrick , that’s true, big price increases over the last two years. However, with cost inflation the way it is, they really have two choices: (1) raise price to maintain same quality, or (2) reduce quality to maintain same price. As much as no one likes price increases, I think Trek is making the right choice here. I’d rather pay more if I have to, and know that the quality/component level one expects with a given model has not been sacrificed.

Cool video dude. What´s not cool is testing someone´s new bike without permission. If I were your customer, I would rather test my $3k brand new dirt bike myself, than let you do it on the pavement for me. I´m sure that I can handle the warranty stuff if something is not right out of the box.
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB Жыл бұрын
I was mainly joking there; we’re actually required to test ride every bike in the store before giving it to the customer, so I just recorded this while I was doing that

That’s not my requirement, that’s straight from Trek headquarters. If you buy any bike from any Trek store in the world, it has already been test ridden. It’s just a liability if we send a customer out on their bike and it turns out there’s something wrong with it that we didn’t notice before.
@lalocompi
@lalocompi Жыл бұрын
@@TalalipopMTB I don't know dude. I get that bikes have to be tested, but you're telling me that if I buy a bike directly from Trek, someone like you is going to take it out of the box, assemble it, ride it in an environment that is not fit for the purpose for bike (specifically the wheels), clean it, disassemble it, pack it and then send it to me? It doesn't sound that professional, it sounds far from what a customer would expect from a company like Trek. What customer expect from Trek, is what they do. Test the bikes in the factory, not in a retailers shop.
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB Жыл бұрын
Well I’m sorry you had to hear from me how it actually is. Also, Trek doesn’t send boxed bikes to customers. They only sell fully assembled bikes in bike shops since they are not a direct to consumer brand.

So let me get this your testing riding a bike someone got as new but in your video here your playing around on this person new bike as if it was yours ? Really did you tell the person you rode his new bike to make a video but still sell it to the person as new ? If you did not I would not buy a bike from your company at all really you should not even have a job after this video. Also if I was the person that paid that much $$$$ for a new bike but then found you was playing around on it for a youtube video I would want my money back or get the bike at used price. When someone pays that much $$$$ for a new bike they do not want a used bike and in this video you said you had to get the bike back be4 they know it is gone well guess what you just made a new bike into a used bike for a youtube video. I bet your company you work for is very proud of you thanks for this video I will not ever buy a bike from your company.
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB Жыл бұрын
That was mainly a joke for the video, should have been more clear there. We are required to do a thorough test ride of every single bike in our store to ensure that nothing is wrong before a customer picks it up, so I just decided to record that test ride for this video. We clean the bike completely before officially selling it as wel.
