2022 was a wild year for grappling. Between ADCC, the IBJJF circuit, and WNO, we were treated to some of the greatest performances (and finishes) ever seen.
Every 'best-of' list is sure to have omissions, oversights, and various misgivings. Still, despite this, we felt we had to chronicle what we consider the best submissions from a phenomenal year. The top six submissions include the FloGrappling award winners and nominees for best submissions.

Isaac was on the warpath on this one, he came up short against each Sodre brothers and suffered a huge loss to Nagai in the past 1-2 years in competition. And he beat them all and to crown his first world championship... absolutely insane

All spectacular. My 2 personal fav were the arm bar from Nagai and the absolute best, in my opinion, was Micah's coyote armbar at #4.

#12 blew me away. What’s the deal with them both sitting down? What’s the rule there? Seems like bro had definitely played that scenario out once or twice.

In BJJ if your opponent takes you down into your guard and maintains control then they get points. Competitors are allowed to avoid this scenario by "pulling guard" and sitting down as soon as they engage in the initial hand fight. Francisco made an incredibly fast evaluation that during the inital grips - right when they both were finally allowed to make the "safe" choice and pull guard - that he had managed to gain control of both of his opponents hands. By standing up quickly and yanking his arms, Lo created enough space to find the submission. Beautiful grappling!

Man these people are scary. You can't make contact at all. All they need is to get a grip on you anywhere. Arm, leg, head, back, front. Doesn't matter. Once they get a hand on you, you're done. 1:28. He's like a spider wrapping up an insect

The z-lock at 8:12 is not anywhere near better than what came before. Sometimes subtlety isn’t that impressive or even good. It took me four watches to figure out what happened. 3 more to wonder they tapped. That should not even be on here.
