24 year old Simon reluctantly admits that his spending is out of control. With a salary of £20,000 but debts of £25,000, something has to change, and soon. To do this, Simon will have to forgo his commitment to attending every Chelsea Football Club match, and will have to cut back on the after match drinks. Jay Hunt and Mark Hopkins use shock tactics to confront Simon with his overspending, but can he commit to going cold turkey for 7 days?

I also come from England, and not only that, 2006 was a great year for ice hockey for the NHL in North America, for both the Edmonton Oilers and the Buffalo Sabres.

That's what have moved me away from soccer, I've never stood the degree of fanaticism sorrounding this sport... I don't know why, but I feel it's much more difficult to see these scenes with basketball, rugby or car racing fans.

Why does it seem like the banks are over-extending themselves all the time? A 17000.00 overdraft? That would be a rich mans overdraft, but as I watch the show it is a re-occuring theme I see over and over!

These UK life reformation programs leave no room for individual choices. It feels as if there's some drab prototype lifestyle that everyone is supposed to follow in the UK. It's obvious that Simon's enjoyment of football is that it's fun and social, not some deep psychological drama.

Lona Hansen well, its all fine when his enjoyment can be covered by his income but when he has no home or anything and lives under a bridge, then that enjoyment is a problem. Someone who eschews all personal needs to enjoy something is a psychological matter. Hedonism can’t support you. If you have the means to support $50k worth of debt to have fun, then that’s fine but when you’re living in a cardboard box, then its a serious problem.

Don't agree. You have to try and live within your means; that doesn't mean you can't be an individual. This programme is about 15 years old now and as a guy in his (now) late 30s how much would his debts now be and how would they be interfering in his lifestyle choices now?

I saw a lot of Europe which was great, albeit not worth the debt or years of financial restriction that followed when paying it back. Either way, life is very different now and we’re planning an extension on our house 🕺🏼

Well, I think it’s a combination of inflation and age. Most of the participants are under 30 yrs old and more are 20-25 yrs old.

No. At 18, the only job you can land is a minimum paid rate. After tax and NI, you will be taking bare bone peanut monthly. If you pay rent and food stuffs, your yearly saving will be at most 5k or even less. Trust me, I did it once. Now working as a graduate engineer, I save 15k at most yearly. I still live with my parents, single and do not go out or on holidays. Engineers are paid shit and at 18, I was paid shit.

I feel like this show is quite sexist, because anytime they have a man on, he always spends on the stupidest things. Did y'all see the one where that guy kept buying robots? This kid will wake up in ten years and realize he's still paying off these football games he doesn't even remember. If you're going to spend money on an "experience," something that's not tangible, it needs to be something that you do like once a year, so that it's special enough that it actually means something to you.

I disagree. There is no need to judge what the shopaholic chooses to spend their money on. It’s an addiction to fill an emotional void. The same could be said about some of the women buying “stupid purses and clothes.” It just an excess in an area that person enjoys. It’s not usually rational choices being made. This is an addiction, after all.
