My brother knew and trained under Mr.Carlos Hathcock and those were just his confirmed kills ,there were many more.He was the greatest My brother was a marine sniper and what he was taught by this man kept him alive .To be given a target and to lay and wait until they were eliminated was hell but they did it time and time again.My brother died last year from Agent Orange that was their thanks.I am so proud of these young men,true heroes!🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️

I am so sorry to hear about your brother passing. My dad was a sniper, so says my family, in Nam. It was not his title though. He died in 1984 from Agent Orange. I only had a dad for 6 years.

They aren't classified anymore and two of them are dead that I know of for sure. There have been books written about all of them. Hathcock's 2500 yard kill was accomplished with an M2 heavy machine gun. He mounted a scope on it. No match grade ammo, or ballistics computer and he had a butterfly trigger. There have been snipers from Iraq and Afghanistan who have made longer shots...but they all had purpose built sniper rifles with match grade ammo and ballistic computers and FAR better optics than Gunny Hathcock had.

@elizabethprado4482 True, but remember, Soldiers aren't policy makers. When you are put into a bad situation, protecting those who are serving with you is job 1. And to do that, you must eliminate the threat. I served in Iraq, also bad policy, but I served to protect those to the Left and to the Right of me. I'm in agreement with you in regards to Vietnam.

Imagine Simo Häyhä and these guys sharing the battlefield. What a crazy matchup that’d be. The Americans would be looking for an enemy at greater distances, unknown to them, Simo is using iron sights in a far closer range moving incredibly slow and using his environment to keep him invisible😂 being scoped up would make them his 1st targets.

Hathcock has more than 300 unconfirmed. The rules for a confirmed kill were nearly impossible on his mission as most were solo.
@sgt.barnes5218Ай бұрын
Carlos went out for weeks at the time , by himself after his spotter was killed, while he went home, when he came back he exacted his revenge on the enemy by going out by himself, not risking his fellow marines lives, Carlos Hathcock was the best sniper , he had the highest price on his head by the enemy than any other military personnel at that time. Kills at that time, had to be confirmed by an officer, his at the time was Capt E.J. Land.

Carlos did not kill an enemy sniper from 2500 yards. He did kill a VC sniper from much closer. The kill of 2500 yards was when he shot a youngster with a bicycle who was armed. He first shot a warning shot but the youngster got off the bike and was shooting back at random. The firearm used was a modified M2 50 calibre machine gun fitted with a scope and set to single shot fire.

@cbobwhite576829 күн бұрын
Half right. The 2,500 yd shot was from a M2, with custom scope mount, built by a guy in the Engineers. But it wasn't at the kid on the bike. Carlos had set up the M2 at their forward base. He sighted it in on a tree, across the valley. A green LT was watching, while Carlos was on the gun. A VC came out of the brush and stopped in front of the tree the gun was sighted on. Carlos touched of 1 rd., the VC was knocked back into the brush, where he trashed around for several seconds. The LT said "You missed him", Carlos replied that they do that with a head shot. When the body was retrieved, it was found that the bullet had struck him, just below the chin.

He had more kills, because he was out during the day time, when Seals,Cag,Ccts, Raiders, go out at night to do missions. With all his kills, you think they would of let him try out for green team,(A/S for Devgru). But not one Devgru member wanted Kyle on there team.

Honest question here. How hard is it to go back to everyday civilian life after being a sniper? I can't wrap my mind around the fact that we train people to do this and then expect them to live a regular life afterwards. Or is it that a lot of these guys join some sort of law enforcement/FBI/CIA afterwards and try to fit in there?
