Want to get more out of your wakeboarding with less effort? It’s been awhile since my last how-to video, so with this one, we’re taking it back to the very fundamentals of riding.
Will we call it The Triangle? The Pyramid? Who knows! But it comes down to three basic things: your body position, your connection, and leaning against the line. In this video, I go mic’d up with BbTALKIN to cover each of those for you, to show you how to incorporate them into your riding, and to answer one of the questions I am most frequently asked… “Do I have to squat before I jump???”
Let’s call this the Wake Fundamental Triangle: stack up, connect, lean against the line, and enjoy YOUR ride!✌️

I’ve started copying his form when jumping and I can feel myself getting closer every time I jump. I’ve been able to clear the wake for years now but I used to have to try to do it. I’d be cutting too hard and trying to pop to much and it just wasn’t working. I started trying to look like him and now I clear it with ease. Body position makes such a huge difference it’s not even fully

@@jefffedorvich9423 I hear that man. Ive only had about 4 sessions under my belt but i think im progressing pretty good. Like you said I think im trying too hard to pop off the wake. Im excited for my next ride because this video really resonated with me. the trampoline analogy and stacking your bones really hit home. I have good feelings about my next ride!

Matt I don’t know if it’s just me but I struggled with getting pop for a while. I watched the few videos he has about unloading and stacking bones and they really helped. Ones I got the wake to wake down without squatting it made it a million times easier to add the squatting in. Also maybe it’s just me but I noticed pushing off the wake is more of like a Ollie motion than it is standing straight up. I don’t know that’s just what it feels like to me. I think a lot of the pop comes from the back leg. At least on heel side

Turning 70 years, I was not able to get up on my wakeskate anymore. I thought this was the end of my riding. After watching your starting video, I discovered my mistakes on starting. I'm not as strong as I used to be, so the less stress on the start made all the difference. I hope to continue learning new things as I continue to ride. Thanks for the tips.

I'm sitting here like 🤯 why didn't I ever think of this. Glad I listened to KZfaq for suggesting this video in my feed. And thanks to the legend for taking time out of his day to show us and get a mic set up on the water! 👏👏👏

Been trying for 2 summers now and finally landed a heelside wake to wake jump! Thank you for putting all these high quality informational videos for free on youtube. It really makes the sport a lot more accessible for those of us who don't have access to good teachers. Your video on slow speed wake to wake and short cut out wake to wake really showed me the important part of where the pop and power comes from. Now on to switch riding and working on toe side. Start easy and don't forget the fun in just carving around. We too often skip over the fact that we are standing on water and it's not only an amazing thing happening but a cool feeling when we apply pressure to an edge and it sends us in a direction while we can swing back and forth behind the boat. Jason, I started at 52 and love it! Everyone around me only waterskied so they couldn’t give any advice. Then I found Shaun’s videos and I progressed instead of trying things that I had no business trying. Knocked myself out in my second outing trying to jump. Caught the wake and did a face plant and the board hit me in the back of the head, lol. Thats when I found Shaun. He has helped me learn without the pain of crazy falls. He’s inspiring the way he gives back. We got this!

Don't know how I missed this when it came out but very eye opening! I have been aware of the proper riding position for a long time but definitely a squatter when cutting towards the wake for jumps. I can't wait till spring to get back out and try these positions! I have been stymied with the toe side jumps forever...finally got a few decent ones but after seeing this would almost guarantee I am leaning in towards the wake on the cut and not down the line. And, as you point out, my toeside cuts prior to heelside jumps are way better lol. I have heard a lot of these ideas and tips before but you really explain it well and the riding with the microphone is awesome so thanks for that! 👍

For less experienced riders make note of his hand position. You'll probably be inclined to push your hands to the outside of the handle but getting comfortable with his hand position will help immensely with learning flippy, spinny stuff. Also Hi Shaun, I still have an old VHS tape of you, Byerly, Gator and Ryan Siebring riding on my parents boat in Michigan when you were up here for the Bud Pro Tour. Awesome simple to follow instructional video i am going to give that a try. Shaun what are your top go to exersizes for strength for wake boarding? You mentioned core a lot in that video and i feel for me that is my next weak link. Standing tall and holding shape when the load from wake hits I tend to fold at my core. Cheers

That's where stacking up can help bc you rely on bone structure rather than muscle strength.

Shaun! I've watched every one of these "going back to basics" videos. The hardest thing for me is "slowing it down" when I'm out riding. I have to talk myself through the basics as I'm doing them. "OK cut out....lean against the rope.....release...wait for the boat....load....body stacked...and hit the wake" Almost every time I do this, I know I'm doing it correctly because I get get booted up and freak out and let go! hahaha Not "Murray" booted, but ya know it feels like I'm 20 feet high. Sometimes I go through this and it feels like the rope is pulled out of my hands, what's happening there? Thank you for all of these! -Ryan

Best thing to do RV is think slow down and find a slower rhythm. Go more jazz than speed metal:)

Do you have a video on your way of getting up on a wakeboard. I have never seen anyone other than you saying to put the board under your butt like you told your Daughter. Just curious of trying it that way to see if it’s easier. Love your videos man!! Thanks

I'm so jealous of how flat the water is there, considering how big a body of water that is

I rode first time last weekend, was great fun, but i felt most comfortable holding with one hand, is that perhaps due to incorrect body position? great video, thanks!

Great to hear Michelle. Riding with one hand can help some people feel a little more balanced at first. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Landing wake to wake: Take off heel side, should you try to land heel or toe side? Vise versa?
@Shaun.Murray
@Shaun.Murray 3 жыл бұрын
If you're going heel side, stay in that direction. You shouldn't land w a cut/edge but keep your direction and keep your lean against the line the same as when you took off the wake.
