The biggest danger in the world today is natural stupidity. So true. Perhaps it has always been so, but social media has made it possible for people to share their stupidity on a mass scale. Thank you for the excellent video.

I'm in luck. I actively do NOT want to fit in with the crowd. How do we fight stupidity? I don't think we can. The enemy has too large an army. I've often thought that voting rights should be attached to intelligence, even if I don't qualify. How to do that? I don't know. I guess I'm not smart enough to figure that out.

Interesting discussion; a lot of truth in it. I do not understand why there is a picture of a handsome healthy looking donkey AKA Jackass on the introduction page. Donkeys are NOT stupid. They are smarter, and make better decisions than horses though a bit more slowly. This is because they stop and think before proceeding to take a course of action which may not be in their own best interests. They are not necessarily interested in doing what a human thinks they should do, though with patience and positive re-inforcement they can be persuaded. Equus assinus has suffered a lot of abuse because of people who do not understand them and think they should behave like horses. An inveterate donkey observer.

J. R. Ewing had a great philosophy on dealing with stupid people. In his own words, "I know how to play the other guy's game". For me to negotiate with stupid people I have to abandon reason & play inside their reality. I have to figure out their "illogical logic". In most cases their incorrect conclusion is based on an internal need, emotional or ego. If you can supply a substitute source of that need, often using metaphors, you can get them to cooperate. Works every time.

Your reasoning is sound, but you knew that. :) A few years back I checked out a grade 9 final exam from 1908. Today, much of it is not taught before university. Advanced early childhood development methods can raise IQ's from below average to nearly genius level in one generation. Alternatively, the slow poison of modern culture has dragged us down into idiocracy on an accident prone clown planet, and collectively, we're amnesiac hypochondriacs in a constant state of PTSD. Interestingly, the combination of earth's weakening magnetic field and various cyclical solar emissions induce periods of greater risk of cardiac arrest and psychological effects such as anxiety and confusion.

These are points that are implied by Bonhoeffer and in the Laws of Stupidity. It is good to point these out to those who missed them. They are real and important. I grew up in a rural area where independent thinking, decision making and responsibility for actions where valued. An example is in how we voted. You were taught to take the top 5 issues you had and place them in a table. Then add the candidates and research them for their policy positions, historical actions and results from those actions. You used a scale and gave them a score based on the above on how much they would improve the lives of you and those around you. No feelings or rah rah team should influence you. It is fun around election time to be in the small town cafes and see how many people pull their tables out of their pockets. You made most of your decisions this way. If you could not explain your decisions. It was time to think about what Bonhoeffer said to break out to independent thought.

Theres an old saying. "Individually, people are intelligent. Collectively, people are stupid." In large groups, people are incapable of thinking for themselves, out of fear of rejection.
@theeddorian
@theeddorian 9 ай бұрын
The implication here is that "social media" aggravates stupidity. If you classify stupidity as a form of laziness, many things are explained. One element is the elevation of misunderstood "scepticism." The first place you need to exercise scepticism is on one's own ideas. There first. Then other ideas. If you consider your own limitations, then evidence of limitations in how others are thinking become easier to identify. This the critical reason that science and consensus should never occupy the same room.

You forget to include laziness. You see the world is being made more lazy everyday. Lazy leads to stupid. People follow the closest narrative that fits their feelings......that they were told were their feelings....They really don't know what their own feelings are anymore. They don't want to put forth the effort, because effort is tiring and they are too busy being lazy to look at what is really going on. You don't have to turn a crank anymore, now just push the button. There feel better now that you have more time to complain because of the time saved by only pushing the button. If this sounds stupid to you. Don't worry, You're not alone.

Yes i do believe laziness has links to stupidity but Stupid people will always find ways to validate their own feelings to confirm that they're smart. Like for example, they like to over analyze with little information and judgement, then complain about others being lazy and not smart, just to validate their own.This causes conflicts, strif and absurdity in relationships, which cause others to reevaluate their relationship with them because stupid people dont understand themselves clearly enough yet that they're causing unnecessary problems for both and others.

After he said, Go on, I'd have asked, "Is the goal of this test for me to tell the truth as I see it. Or is it for me to agree with everyone who's wrong? I need to know what the goal of this experiment is. What it is you're trying to measure." I know that's what I would say because I was nearly court martialed in Air Force basic training for agitating for fair treatment. Let's put this in simpler terms. You are doing your duty as night watch on a Bering sea crab boat. The most despicable thing you could do is fall asleep. You're steaming along the previously set course. One job...stay awake. A mass of darkness blots out the moon on the starboard side and the boat is hit. 40" rogue wave. On its side...instantly. You're taking on water. Fast. Diesel engines sputter and die. The stairwell to the living quarters is almost full. They're all down there! You have to do what? They're gone. Training kicks in. You spot your survival suit. You have 60 seconds to get the suit on and get in a life raft. You wasted 10 seconds. It's all methodical now. Time slows down. One leg in, two legs, reach down, pull up, insert arms, zip up, pull the hood over your head and grab the dingy. Don't pull the rip inside. Exit the wheelhouse, pull the rip and jump. Swim to the dingy. Pull yourself into it and zip up the horrible scene you will never forgetYou must get far enough from the sinking boat to escape being sucked under when it succumbs to Davey Jones locker. You make it. Somehow, you make it. The Coast Guard spots you 3 days later. There was no mayday call. Now you wait. This is a crass analogy. You'll be on board with the "stupids." It's happened before. If you made it into the freezing Bering Sea, you're not going to put yourself anywhere near somebody who tells you what a great idea it is to be a crab fisherman. You probably won't eat crab ever again. What do you think ate all your shipmates?

Shipping manufacturing overseas ? giving up the military airbase in Afghanistan before civilians were evacuated ? I could go on . John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Stupidity is not a practical concept. It just a curse word to discard people that are not willing to listen to our point of view. Those "stupid" people might not want to listen for an underlying reason, like not trusting a single word the government tells us. So if some demagogue comes along and starts selling stories that are opposite to what the government tells, no matter if they are clearly false, they are accepted for a "higher reason". And now if YOU disagree with this clearly false truth told by that demagogue, YOU are with the government so YOU are the enemy. I give you one example. You are a German living after WW1 in a bankrupt Germany that has lost a war that it should have won and you feel that you are being led by a puppet regime. They speak wise words, but you feel that their words are just hollow lies. Along comes a Hitler, that talks weirdly, but does away with that puppet regime and only uses words to mask his true deeds, which are VERY benificial to Germany... then what good would discussions be to YOU?

Stupidity doesn't really explain the underlying reason for people's actions. What is a big driver, maybe the biggest, is indifference. It's not that most people are stupid. It's that they don't want to exert the mental energy necessary to get a reasonable grasp of the big picture. Indifference is the opposite of love,.not hate. This is because love is a passive emotion. You either have it or you don't. Hate is active. You have to work at it. It not spontaneous like love. You can become compassionate and love others as they are or you can ignore others and focus on your own goals in life. Example: people don't hate the planet. We just don't care enough about it and the other lifeforms on it to make a concerted effort to change our behavior to make it possible. No, we are all stupid. We all piss in our drinking water and stink up the place with our offal.

Talisi, I would agree that greed is another one of the main drivers of modern societal stupidity, but to be fair I think what we are witnessing is a visceral reaction to circumstances beyond an individual's control. If you look at the big picture, in the face of environmental collapse there is no known mechanism to quickly change society to an extent that it will survive the impending environmental collapse. Take the US as an example example. Our economy is primarily energy consumption based or heavily invested in a large military industrially employed workforce. You can't cut military spending without cutting jobs. This kind of conversation to a sustainable economy takes decades. Just like Europe escaping dependency on Russian energy will take years. We had that window in the seventies, but not now. Following the capitalist who provided cheap gratification the people soon gave up their chance at redemption for humanity's crimes against nature. Besides that a lot of these conflicts and the need for the world's largest military is that American capitalist exports billions of dollars in the form of buying foreign good in exchange for dollars which takes money out of the pool of money available to the American public which means the privately owned federal reserve has to keep okaying cheap interest rate access to large commercial banks which actually create currency in a manner. Presently the big issue in the present conflict is whether the dollar will remain the preeminent currency of trade. Back to change of behavior. How do you switch to a sustainable economy in light of the circumstances? My guess is that most people would like to be unaware as they follow the pied piper over the proverbial cliff. If you can't do anything why worry about it. I keep mentioning environmental collapse and the preceeding or post societal collapse because that is humanity's greatest threat and yet so-called world leaders play games of intrigue. Actually this is conflict in Ukraine is only the beginning of a scramble for control of necessary resources. Hold onto your hat. It's all down hill from here on out. Not accepting this reality, not acknowledging that there was a need for rapid change of behavior, but that we didn't because we were and are indifferent to change mainly because we wanted and still want beads and trinkets. This can only be described as moral cowardice and is in fact incredibly stupid. Guess all three observations are correct these behaviors are largely responsible for our impending global economic and environmental collapse.

@@the3dotsstudios that and a lack of moral fortitude and quite frankly a propensity for evil on a societal level. Evil being defined as a lack of concern as to how an action hurts other people, other species and the planet that sustains us. In addition not questioning one's behaviors and looking for a way to contribute to the greater good. Not giving yourself time for reflection and continuing education...any kind of education would do. Running on autopilot through life never metaphorically looking out the window at the scenery and if they look out the window do turn their head they quickly turn away from distressing realities or pass self serving justification for why these distressing realities are not their problem. Sadly I believe we are in the hand basket to hell. All this is Evil and human think that he'll is down below when in reality it's right here on earth and with each passing year we turn up the heat a little more.

Sad. A video gone wrong. Quoting the video, "Our problem is that on one side we have intellectual people, intelligent people who are full of doubts, and on the other side we have stupid people full of confidence." This idea derives from a misquote. Socrates did Not say, "Smart people learn from everything and everyone. Average people learn from their experiences. But stupids already have all the answers." Socrates wrote nothing down. Plato and a few other students told stories about Socrates and his methods of inquiry. But over the centuries, many intellectuals have "quoted" Socrates to promote their pet idea, and this "quote" is one of them. Plato did say this about Socrates, ""In his search for someone wiser than himself, he found that those who believed they were wise were not, while those who admitted their ignorance were closer to wisdom." Which is why I say the video went wrong. It got it backwards. Today's "intellectuals" are stupid people full of confidence. It's the average people that have learned from their experiences that can demonstrate any claim to wisdom.

@@jdoe9518 Okay, lets work through the three new laws. The first is that Stupid people cannot be persuaded with due reasoning or protesting. If you've ever watched MAGAs interviewed it is clear that they are repeating what they have been told by right-wing media, bloviating MAGA politicians and evangelical preachers. I live in a deep red state where few people have more than a high school education and have noticed that such people panic when asked to explain why they believe what they do. If you watch the film to the end, the narrator explains that these folks are responding emotionally rather than critically. The second new law suggests that Stupidity often arises from the lack of independent thinking, following the herd blindly, or both. If you want to see a demonstration of this sort of herd thinking, watch a trump rally with trump shirts, flags, hats, and chants. The final law states that Stupidity thrives under dictatorship, authoritarian or totalitarian leaderships. For a discussion of how "I alone can fix it" trump fits into these leadership styles, checkout this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bpmdp7uT3Laym5c.html&ab_channel=BeauoftheFifthColumn.
