Today Amazon already started to roll out the third feature update for the Kindle Scribe with Firmware 5.16.2.
This new update brings new PDF-enhancements, the lasso tool and handwriting conversion. Let's check it out together.

You can manually download and install the update, if you don't want to wait for the automated OTA-update, which usually takes a couple of days to roll out to everybody. thanks for this video I love how kindle has surprised us with 3 updates already and I hope more come soon. I have a list of about 10 things that kindle can update there features in the scribe: 1. highlighter options in books with different graduations of gray if possible 2. underline feature in books 3. written annotations in books 4. New drawing tool(s) paintbrush, shapes or automatically recognize a shape drawn to them make it into a perfect shape, lines, arrows should be included 5. new templates 6. zoom in and out of templates for example the monthly calendar 7. be able to use screen saver image as any note that you choose in notebooks 8. with sticky notes able to scroll to have more room to write/type 9. make a favorites folder for books that you want to favorite that your are reading or want to read again to find quickly 10. be able to choose your screen saver that you always want to keep from the default list of kindle screen savers that kindle has

Merci pour cette vidéo 👍 Je suis très content de toutes ces nouvelles mises à jours ❤ j'ai bien fait de faire confiance à Amazon et de ne pas écouter certains influanceurs sur youtube... Ce qu'ils ont promis dans leur communiquer ils l'ont fait. Le kindle Scribe s'améliore de mois en mois et en très peu de temps. Vivement la suite ! Bonne continuation.

Thank you for the review. I saw the news about release of a new the Kindle Scribe update which provided handwriting to text conversion. I search for this feature after I made the update. But I couldn't find it. Your video helped me.

I was one of those rare people for whom even the original worked well for the purposes I bought it. But now I'm surprised and happy how soon these upgrades happened -- and will use them. I put it on charge a few hours ago hoping all the updates download for me today!

The recent updates fail to make the reading experience better. On the home page books pile up that you have purchased or have finished reading ,but cannot be removed from the home page to the library. On the Kindle app for the iPad and iPhone, a reader can remove the book or books back to the library into collections; they no longer appear on the home page.

I am happy that Amazon are releasing lots of updated features, however there are two issues with functionality that I would like to see fixed. 1) I would like to see system UI font sizing options added as the system UI's font is too small for people with poor eyesight. 2) The Kindle Scribe deserves a functional and useable web browser, as the existing one is almost useless. Layers and shapes would also be nice as well as support to add hyperlinks to local documents.

As counter-intuitive as it might be, I would love to have the ability to bluetooth a keyboard to this thing for very basic word processing. Even if it just amounts to using Notepad, as long as I could dump the file as a txt document somewhere. I am curious, how fast is the on-screen keyboard? I've figured out I can actually touch-type on my iPad fairly reliably, oddly enough, so I wonder if I could do that on this device as well.

I have written this multiple times across various scribe reviews. I strongly believe this is a deliberate market strategy aimed at reaching the Broad Market of Kindle users rather than the niche market of eInk current users. Introducing limited functionality made it feel like a writing tablet and focused on the writing experience and not the complexity of feature rich functionality making it easier to adopt to a broad segment of current Kindle users. Once they get comfortable with the experience of writing, Amazon can easily add additional functionality at a pace that allows them to learn it easily. This approach in my opinion could absolutely dwarf the eInk current market. I believe in Amazon has the technical capacity the funding and the market reach to disrupt the industry,

The hardware and build is impressive, and if they keep refining the software it could be something very special indeed but where it falls down is for those working on commercial documents or intellectual property... I mean, who wants to email something anywhere they may have been working on for months or even years? :O

I have not even got update 2 yet! Furious I don’t have the facility to update manually and I am still running in February update no1

That sucks ... Do you keep Wi-Fi enabled during night or do you switch to airplane mode? Because with the last one my Scribe updated during the night, when I just closed the cover and put it into standby.

@@ChalidRaqami I have the Wi-Fi on all the time. For some reason it just haven’t come to my device. I went ahead and manually updated it though, so it’s all set.

Hmmmmmm......with this last update all of the features are there on the Scribe.......I would also like to be able to see my sketches and scribbled notes as well as my library of books on my other 6" Kindle device as a see only item like my books.......I can read the books on my 6" Kindle but not see the notes.......I take my 6" Kindle with me when I'm out and about as it's very compact, but it would be very handy to be able to show and see the note books I created on the Scribe.

It’s unfortunate that the lasso makes a rectangular selection. In writing, and especially in sketching, a lasso is often needed in an unusual shape. But perhaps the Scribe doesn’t have the processing power for that. I hope they add layers and the ability to export as PNG - or at least some image file type, not just PDF.

So, another update......I hope I can get this without a big fussy go around like the 2nd update........but not to worry, I just bought the 6" Kindle as well....plus the baby elephant cover because it was so cute...., mainly because it was small and easily portable.......the Scribe is my main line for sketching, note taking and reading......how did I ever exist before the Scribe came into my World........never before in the annals of scribbled notes on disappearing scraps of paper has there been a more handy solution........I make quick notes as they come to mind on the Scribe, and hey presto ......I can erase them without having paper in wads gathering dust.

I wonder if the handwriting conversion happens on device or in the cloud. I'd be concerned about security if it's sending your notes to the cloud for conversion.

I suspect it happens in the cloud - you can't use it while in airplane mode and it's part of the sharing process via email and can't be saved locally (at the moment).

I have 2 questions - 1. is the functionality of the browser on the scribe as bad as on other kindle devices (for text related content as newpapers, wikipedia, etc)? 2. is it possible to mark up just segments of words, as on pc and tablets, which is not possible on kindle paperwhite? This is important for reading in languages other than english, when the dictionary fails to recognize a word that is gramatically declinated or conjugated other than the base form. Thank you!

1. The browser is still bad, maybe the worst in the ereading space, with Kobo not being far behind. 2. No, unfortunately not possible. You can only select full words, same as on the Paperwhite.

Believe you have a typo. Latest update is 5.16.2 -- not 5.6.2

should I wait for the Lenovo or try the Kobo Elipsa 2E. I asked them via a DM if the Elipsa uses the MPP. It stands for Microsoft Pen Protocol. Which means that you can use different pens who use that protocol.

Depends on what you want to do. I'd say for taking notes, the Lenovo Smart Paper might be better because it uses a WACOM touchscreen and seems to focus more heavily on note taking. But it's hard to say, without having seen it first hand. I have no doubt however, that the Kobo Elipsa 2E is the better reading device and I also suspect, that it will have the more uniform frontlight. So my choice would be: Lenovo for writing, Kobo for reading.

Unfortunately, not very good. It has issues with the styles of some websites and also renders fonts weird sometimes. Wouldn't recommend the Scribe if you want to browse the web with it.

I don't appreciate how much money I spent on the Oasis and the Paperwhite and scribe is getting all the credit. Page turn animations and overall a better experience. This thing was like 350 after the cellular option
