Disclaimer: I do not have to buy many of the products I feature on the show, and I get to retain them. When I started making videos, I didn't even have a matching pair of LDCs, and partnerships with gear companies help me make better videos. Therefore, I'm may indicate with KZfaq that this video is "Paid Promotion" as a technicality. Please know that my opinions are my own, and I never feature gear that I think is bad, or I can't stand behind the quality of.
I show you how I learned a plugin in under two days and how you can learn fast and how to hear what your plugins are doing. Plugin Alliance Tape Face video:

Love this in theory. In practice, I've already forgotten what i was hearing in the 3 seconds in between stopping it and announcing the next 😂

The type 3 has such a cool sound! It sounds like a there’s almost a tiny tiny little bit of modulation emulating a changing speed, and it’s a really cool effect imo!

Cool idea I never considered...........I've been working a lot with this new version of Tapeface. I'll definitely try out your idea. I really like how all the different variations REALLY make a difference....ie: NOT subtle like other popular tape sims. I've mainly been using type II at 15ips for mix buss. It seem to be the flattest, though they're all colored. The head bump sounds cool and is pretty addicting, so you need to be careful not to use it as a crutch. I agree the bias feature is pretty extreme, and I haven't really used it at all yet. If you're nearing the end of a mix and switch it to +3 it completely changes the mix!. I'd say you have to start with it on and mix through it the whole time, imho. You didn't get to the saturation feature. To me It kinda works like a smooth clipper. Too much and things get mushy, just enough and it's the "magic sauce" 😏.

Okay, I LOVE This!!! Now, let's combine this technique with a previous technique of yours which Leaves all three in Series vs just One (using compressors). Your argument for Serial Compression, using three of the same compressor (each doing say -3dB GR) rather than one (doing -9dB GR), I believe was that each was working less hard and the cumulative result was much smoother than putting the whole work load on one device/plugin. Does this follow with Tape Saturation as well? (and are you maybe hearing something different/better doing this that you wouldn't hear with just one?) I'd love to see you explore all of this more! And in Studio One you can link parameters, making adjusting all three much easier I believe. Thanks Again Brotha!!!

Linking....I didn't think of that. Damn! That will have to be explored!

Interesting! Btw: Hornet plugins has a VU meter with automatic level matching in it. Makes comparing things a whole lot easier imo! Atb

1 recommendation for next time, is try making busses for the plugins, like drum buss, bass buss, guitar buss, vox buss, mix buss....put 1 of Tapeface on each buss, then route all busses to another mute buss where you bypass the buss and it bypasses all 6 of the Typeface's! Hindsight's always 2020, and I couldn't do better tbh. However, I'd really like to see AutoGain on this and all plugins from developers, so you can check out different settings without tricking your ears with volume changes.

Tapeface is cool but after months of using it along with its competitor HornetTape, I must say that Hornet is just a tiny pinch better, even if it doesn't have that nice low mid bump function the Kiive plugin has.

Thanks for the vid 🙂 Is it possible to link all instances? having 34 where you wanna test the different versions of tape is gonna take a shit load of time while done with the changes you forgot what you're holding it up against. its really important you can group instances like in the slate version..
