@@MGTOW89 not really. Most of the features mentioned come standard on the base model. 45k is 270 range, but you can look at the price differences on the r1s to see what jumps to expect. High 40s to mid 50s will be a common, long range configuration depending how many motors you get.

That's the single motor and has the smaller battery that does 270miles. Question is whether there are additional compromises. We don't know the price of the dual or tri setup. Style and function wise, it seems phenomenal, but pricing is Where we'll see if it holds up

As a model y owner who loves their car, I would still probably get the R2 or R3 just for the looks and interior layout. It just wasn’t out when I needed a car, and it won’t be out for a while. I hope it’s amazing so rivian does well and keeps making great cars for adventurers.

The current biggest drawback to Rivian ownership was the lack of charging network. The deal with Tesla will make it an actual viable alternative. Sincerely, an R1S owner.

The one thing I dont really like about Rivian (and most electric car manufacturers) is the fact that if you’re in even a small collision, the insurance can easily total your car. And if I pay 50-70 grand for a car, I kinda want it to live past one crash

At least the compromise was power closing for the trunk which wasn't a feature before. If the trade off keeps it at that price point, I'd be okay with it. It still folds pretty low I believe, just not flat.

Need roof panoramic window glass to be optional. Nothing above me I need to see 99% of the time and is a component I don’t need to worry about shattering. In a desert climate, the glass is just a furnace.

I would barely choose the R2 currently, but due to it being as a concept and we don’t actually know how good it will be, it is somewhat skeptical. However, their R1T and R1S are great and might push over to this car. There will be more contest however by the time the Model Y Juniper releases

I agree. By 2026 the Model Y will be well into its updated phase. However, R2 should do well considering most parts are somewhat shared with R1S. Should make bringing it to market a whole lot easier.

These types of glass have a UV protection layer. You could drive it in Dubai without issue. It’s harder to see indoors with the fluorescent lighting.

I prefer on the passenger side: curbside charging (which will be necessary for broad adoption), and in tight stalls I can park the car closer to the charger side and still get out of the vehicle easily.

I used to think the same, but after visiting France and seeing the logic of sidewalk chargers and having to pull the cord to the driver’s side on my rental I changed my mind. I think Rivian could have an advantage if they promote that type of sidewalk installed unit in cities or small towns. Plus when Gas station style pull through chargers expand (especially for towing) then the side won’t matter.

@@kennethwright8081the cheaper versions tend to have smaller batteries and slower drivetrains. Most of the tech in the interior will actually be identical between trims because it's cheaper to make essentially the same passenger cabin and mate it to different drivetrains (the most expensive parts of the car). Also software add-ons are even more profitable

The scroll wheels have tactile feedback that adjusts based on what you have selected. No one has gone over exactly what you can select with them, but to give a basic example, if you are scrolling volume, you'll get a bunch of tiny light "clicks" and if you are scrolling climate controls it will adjust the springs in the clicker to make each click feel harder and less frequent. I can't remember which channel had that demonstration on it, but it basically made me not worry about the screens at all since it seems the things you actually want to adjust like that will be done through the scroll wheels on the steering wheel.
