I am Russian too, I haven't been to weddings either but from what I am told, they are very westernised. Usually there is way too much alcohol as well. I cannot stand drunk people and how they act, so surely if I had a wedding it would be nothing like those people's weddings, who told me about them

Another Russian here, I was on a wedding only once, and I was like 7 or so. I don't remember much but there were definitely several quests for my uncle to get to his future wife. I was kinda surprised that Chinese wedding was somehow similar in that matter

We Chinese have a saying called ‘husband-wife looks’ 夫婦相. It means that the couple’s looks or expressions are very similar. These kind of couples are meant to stay happily married forever. I think Harumi and Shogo have ‘couple’s look’. Happy, kind and sweet! 🎊🎉💕💝

Both of your weddings looked beautiful. I also had two weddings. I'm Portuguese and my wife is Indian. Question? I find it interesting that Japan, who worked to westernize themselves, has kept their wedding ceremonies in tradition with Japanese culture. China however; who fought against westernization, has a very western styled wedding. From speeches, the seating arrangements to even your suit and gown. It was very reminiscent of my Portuguese/Western Wedding. I'm curious as to how/why this occurred.

To be fair, not all Japanese weddings will be traditional. You have plenty of weddings that are done according to western style. Especially in Kobe where I used to live, they seem to really have a lot of venues and dress shops that are done in a western style. So it's probably more of a personal taste

I love the gate crashing games! It’s suppose to be the final test to prove to her friends that you are worthy to marry her. That’s why they play games that have to do with declaring your love, strength, and also demand $$$. They honestly went super easy on you XD I feel like this is something leftover from the tradition of bringing dowry and stuff to propose to a lady.

The crashing gate thing is also practiced in other places too. For sure, it's still widely practiced, but we called in the Silver Gate Golden Gate. The richer the two families involved, the more gates there are, lots of cash going around and weird ridiculous games ranging from push ups to giving out gold necklaces to gatekeepers.

I was expecting the weddings to have a very stiff aura of tradition around them, but the mood was just so light and airy I almost cried over here. Being adopted from China has lead me to be very interested in it, and I’m so happy for you two even though this was a while ago. What a pretty venue It’s so amazing to compare these traditions to American ceremonies and I can just tell from the footage everyone is having a great time

It's for practical uses too. If u dictate on a dress code, guests will be too lazy to go to your wedding feast because they have to go to great lengths to buy formal dresses and it's an effort on their part. The result will be FEW PEOPLE might attend it and chinese don't want the party to look bleak and gloomy with few attendees. That's why there's not much dress code, only the wedding entourage observe this formality in wearing nice.

I know for me at least growing up in western culture the way to dress at a wedding was usually your best clothes unless told otherwise by the bride and groom. One very big no-no for girls is to wear a white dress to a wedding like the groom or bride could kick you out for it.

I have to say that, as a Greek, the chinese wedding seems quite familiar. I'll address their points in the same order. 5. There are no rules about who sits where but usually there is a bride side and a groom side. 4. When it comes to money the couple pays for the ceremony and the celebrations afterwards (maybe with the help of the parents). The guests don't pay anything but they are expected to give gifts and/or money to the couple (the couple will have a gift list so the guests don't buy anything stupid). 3. There is nothing like that here. 2. There is no official dress code but people are expected to put on some nice clothes. As a rule of thump the older guests were more official attires than the younger ones. 1. The stuff cleans up when people leave. Also I have to mention that the wedding itself is a seperate thing from the party. The wedding will happen first and sometime later the party starts. Some people even have two parties, one for relatives (old people) and another for friends and young relatives.

The Chinese wedding seemed to have a bit more "Western" flavour to it. I found that quite interesting as I thought it would've been the Japanese one to seem more "western". A combination of some aspects of both weddings would be nice. That secret money thing is also a cultural aspect in the Caribbean, especially among older ppl. You're grand parents especially, they would pretend they're giving you a handshake and when you pull you hand back, there is magically money in your hand. 🤣As younger ppl we always find it do funny.

I'm at 5:13 . I'm just amazed that a simple alteration in make up, attire and scenery can turn a very Japanese looking couple into a very Chinese looking couple! It is surreal! I'm also very impressed with the level of attention to detail. The Qing Dynasty style details in your wife's Japanese regalia to point towards her origins from across the sea. This matches with your own family crest. I've read a lot about Japanese being perfectionists. But looking at the way you correct yourself in the subtitles and the attention to detail you put into making sure everything is according to the respective cultures' traditions pretty much confirms how true it is. I wonder how many weddings in China keep as many Orthodoxies as you two observed? Maybe there is the general form there. But I would imagine with the chaotic political situation and the messy daily life, many details are likely to be omitted because people are more focused on their immediate best interests in that stage of their lives. Anyway, good job! China never sleeps, but you managed to somehow jump into the party and fit in! Very impressive!

They were both very beautiful! China's wedding is a little more similar to weddings I've gone too, with the dress and the bouquet.

Adorable! Best of both worlds between all the serious ceremonial tradition, then the amazing fun and games. Congratulations to you both.
