Swords of the Renaissance is an fencing event in Potsdam dedicated to the fighting systems of this period. The lectures are pretty short (30min) and should be an introduction into one specific topic. Further discussions and free play are highly encouraged.
„If you were waiting for the opportune moment... that was it - The 5 tempi to attack of Giovanni dall'Agocchie“
This workshop focuses on opportunities (tempi or singular tempo) to attack safely in sword fighting. While dall'Agocchie teaches sidesword (& dagger or cape), this applies to most weapons of HEMA like longsword, rapier, arming sword etc.
Martin has been training in the Berliner Rittergilde since 2008 and has been responsible for coaching sword fighting for shows and reenactment since more than 10 years. In 2015 he was hooked for historical fencing due to a course in classic saber fencing and Roland Warzecha's videos (Dimicator). From then on he trained with sword and buckler according to the Walpurgis fencing book. In 2017 he broadened his horizon including the writings of the Bolognese masters around Antonio Manciolino and Achille Marozzo. In the same year he founded the group Schildwache Potsdam, a cooperation between the Berliner Rittergilde and the University Sports of Potsdam, which has dedicated itself to historical fencing. For 2020 Martin was appointed to the first longsword national squad of the DDHF (german HEMA umbrella organisation).
00:00 Introduction - dall'Agocchie's manual & tempo

I would very much enjoy a bit of discussion with you: What are your favourite fencing actions and more importantly when do you employ them? :)

My fencing pal is a rapier guy, he's a great diestro. My favourite action is deffinetly try to strike in the same tempo as I block, because the "striscia" is crazy fast when disengaging the bind.

I'm glad to see a variety of swords in this class! I'm always of the opinion that fencing should be practiced with a variety of weapons between every person, so long as the weapon adequately fits into the broad characteristics of the "intended" weapon (because you can't get much out of a sidesword class with, say, a shamshir, but you can with a messer). Great video.

Thank you, it was a great experience testing these ideas with lots of contempory weapons around :)

What are some sidesword manufacturers that you recommend for medium sparring and drills? Also what sword do you use in your videos?

So, there are quite a number and I still want to make a proper overview video, but here is the short version. If you don't go to heavy and want a beautiful sword, Malleus Martialis it is. The price a bit higher though. Other options are: Regenyei (shorten the grip!), Black Fencer, Poker Armory, Kvetun, Pike Armory (that's from Russia though) and Bloss.

All these are good manufacturers and we have blades from all of them.
