Let's dissolve this progressive mythos. The 54th Massachusetts lost every single engagement they were apart of; the regiment did not see a single victory. Its esteemed propaganda piece "Glory" focuses on a battle that was so particularly disastrous (The 2nd Battle of Fort Wagner), it saw defeat despite having 3:1 numerical advantage against its enemy while racking up its own casualties to be in the thousands. These soldiers were not heroes, they were not warriors, they soldiering slaves that saw humiliating defeat after defeat, as they were seen quite literally as cannonfodder to the, to today's standard, white supremacist officers and general corps that lead them. Olustee was one of the many humiliating engagements for the slave troops of tyrant Lincoln. Let's not forget the initial plan to force deport freed blacks to Haiti and Liberia after the occupation of the South.
