Have you ever wondered about the different ways we express and perceive love? Or what the secret is to a long and happy romantic relationship?
In this video, we'd like to talk about a little theory known as the “Color Wheel Theory of Love.” Also sometimes known as Lee’s (1977) love styles or love attitudes, this theory proposes that people love in different ways, which can be categorized into six broad styles of love.
These love styles not only characterize our relationship with others but also how we feel and act towards our romantic partners. Here are the six different love styles and how you can better understand yours.
We also made a video on how your childhood affects your love style: • How Your Childhood Aff...

I'm platonic love for sure! It took me over 3 years of friendship/"dating" (we were in middle/high school so it wasnt really dating as much as it was closer friends with a new title XD) before I even felt comfortable with my partner touching me (just casual autism things lol)! However after those 3 years of growing close as friends, I finally felt comfortable enough to get serious and really open up! 5 years later and I'm so glad I really took my time getting to know such a wonderful man. He was and always will be my best friend! Even in a few years when he's my husband, I'll always love him for being the best friend, partner, and family I could ever ask for!

Hold up ... i had this SAME exact transition. Also realized some people are literally narcissists who no matter how much selfless love you give ... it only serves as supply to them and they actually in their twisted minds hate you more for it and respect you less. Humanity is plagued with stupidity honestly its sad but i digress. Honestly especially as a guy its been hard to navigate trying to date women through the storge approach. (Agape didnt work either but i wasnt really on any active pursuit when that was my initial style nor did i have a mature idea of love then. Well im never on "active pursuit" regardless) But girls dont seem to like a dude that goes the friendship route usually and im seen as disingenuous like i was attracted to them romantically before. But thats not even true the times i was friends with them i really didnt see myself liking them we were just acquainted in some way before. In general, people avast tend to only start off the foundation of mutual physical/sexual attraction to start relationships then learn about people as part of their experience which i believe is a weak foundation that leads to you needing like 50 dates to find someone. Women tend to appreciate it more when the guy makes it clear early their intentions which again fucks me over because i dont just look at someone good looking or not and tell myself "man id love to date this person" In fact i see a good looking person my instinct is to think they are probably absorbed in looks and id be wasting my time cuz i dont value superficial ass temporary people. So idk ... but im still committed to the storge to agape approach. But i may have to fit in there like more of a flirty nonserious vibe even if at times i am not in a mood to be playful. Ive been very serious in recent years which i believe scares girls ive liked because i think it becomes a lot of pressure for the girl when i seem way more interested in her than she may have ever thought of being with me ya know. Also when im depressed i can definitely come off needy unfortunately. I got a lot of self work i need to do Oh also my conversations never become talking about sexually arousing topics idk if thats an issue to or not ... not that i cant i just dont really think much about things like that naturally and would only care to talk about it with someone i know is open minded not some random i find physically attractive but is wack. But maybe i should be more open to that cuz it would be odd if i finally get someone and we are both so unfamiliar with how to be sexual in anyway xD. Im aware of all these things tho now so hope i can figure it out

@@matthewcuriel991 That was a very emotionally mature response. When I had a TikTok, some psychiatrist guy did results of what women and men look for in a mate. It came down to the same argument: men want beauty, women want money. I commented and said “My first thought is how is he going to treat me?” The men that replied called BS and I had to argue that I have a career that pays me well, but I’ve had some terrible relationships because I’d give my all and they’d lose interest. The best thing I’ve learned is to walk with quiet confidence and I speak to as many men at work as I do women and basically in the same manner with the same energy. I think people see that as sincere, I don’t know. I’m married now so I don’t worry about that anymore. However, we took our relationship really slow because I got out of a relationship with a narcissist and everything I tried to do was wrong and I felt reduced to ashes. I had to learn to trust again. I was ready to call it quits at 35 years old.

I gotta say I try to fight it, but I sometimes feel the mania in my love style because I do get jealous and lonely and sometimes I have been too codependent in past relationships. I've found it's easier for me to be single and seek more of a platonic bond with someone that develops naturally rather than trying to go looking for romantic relationships. Platonic stuff feels so much better because then I'm less uncertain about a person which makes me more comfortable and confident in our relationship.

Love and sex are not the same thing, although people often confuse the two. Love is emotional. Sex is physical. You can love someone and not want / need to have sex with them, and you can have sex with someone without loving them.

As someone who's balancing on Pragma, Storge and Agabe but is like zero Eros, i find it difficult to be with someone because most of the time they all have Eros love style, im uncapable of it. Like showing my love is such a private intimate process for me, that either i distance myself from them when they want to show that much affection or i start "cringing". And than they mistake it as me disliking them or finding it creepy. But it's not that, I show my love through cooking you hearty meals, taking care of you and your stuff and as a payback a simple thank you or listening to me how my day was, is plenty enough. However by far no one really understood that, because media's potrayal of love is really only shown in eros style, and once you have different lovestyle, especially being young and being girl, they find it weird.

I find myself a mixture of pretty much all these love styles but I most relate to Agape because me and my significant other are both making sure the other is comfortable or okay. I tend to over look my own feelings and focus more on my partner's but they also understand that and try to make me feel better in turn. We also decided to get to know eachother first before starting anything serious so we were friends before hand.

The beauty of Storge is that you have a chance to decide if the relationship would be healthy or fulfilling, and there's a possibility that you could walk away with a great friend even if it doesn't work out. I'm speaking as someone who has 3 friends who I've known for 5+ years, and I still talk to them all consistently, but I would never want to date any of them.

Thank you again for this insightful video. Personally, I recognized myself in the last three categories of love. First, I'm more into platonic love (Storge), followed by practical love (Pragma) and, finally, selfless love (Agape). Probably, the first three ones are too much for me! (lol!) I've always have a quiet, intellectual, shy and introverted personality. So, that could explain, at least partially, my three dominant styles of love. In my conception of love, love is a version of friendship carried to a higher degree. I know very well that it could easily sound boring and that doesn’t make strong children, as they say. 😆 But, that's the way I am!

When I used to get into relationships, I used to be a mix of Eros, Mania, Storge, and Agape. I really loved my partner, and I would give the world to them for their happiness, because that made me happy. I trusted them, and I made sure that every day, they were happy and felt reassured. I guess that's why I never had one last longer than a year, because I trusted them and never believed they would turn their back on me, but they did. Felt like every girl and guy I dated was Ludus, and sometimes Pragma. They never seemed to care about me or how I felt, despite how much affection I gave them. Only one relationship never ended in cheating, out of, I think, about 30+ relationships. Maybe I'm just a horrible person. I haven't been in a relationship or had any friends for 3 years. I'm desperate for love, but I know no one's going to give it to me. Besides, I missed my chance with my dream girl, which was that one relationship that hadn't ended. I like spending quality time with my crush/male friend (who knows that I like him back) and I also love exploring relationships and sometimes feel the urge to just end a relationship. I feel like my style is somewhere between Agape and Storge. I've not actually fallen in love that I know of, but I've been in multiple relationships where I'm usually trying to make the other person happy. But with the Agape love style, I do tend to give a lot to whoever I'm with at the time whenever I can, but I tend to feel a sense of guilt when they try to give me stuff. I have troubles accepting gifts from my friends and partners, even if they're cheap dollar store things. I think I'd rather my thank you from them in hugs and attention rather than gifts? I'm not really sure bout this stuff. And I have no idea how to tell if I love someone. Whenever someone's overly kind to me or just little complements, I start to blush or my heart "flutters". This has caused a lot of confusion and I have no idea what to do. Any advice?

Hey Psych2Go, I wondered if U would make a video to help me with my situation and I understand that others might be struggling with this too. So I’ve had a massive crush on this boy in my class since January. He’s really sweet and funny and he’s always smiling lol but the thing is... he isn’t my friend, he’s just like a class mate so I can’t really do what I guess other people would do in this situation. I feel like I’ve already blown it with him as when we used to talk to me in computing I would literally just smile and laugh a little and I didn’t actually say anything back :/ So what I’m asking for is some advice on how to move on. I think about him 24/7 (it’s hard to explain but there’s a song called one day by Tate McRae that summons it up perfectly lol) I don’t think he likes me back and I’m too scared to tell him but say another really nice guy came up to me and asked me out, even if I could see us together in the future, I’d have to refuse cos I’m in love with my crush!

If I have to be honest, the one I felt the closest to myself is number 5-storge(platonic love) because I always dream to have a friendship with that person and then to start a relationship...if the friendship doesn't go well, that means he/she isn't right for you...and if a friend disappoints you,he/she may not be a good partner as well who you can trust. You should trust that person really well,in my opinion.

The problem with this kind of pigeonholing is always... there is not a total of 6 types or 10 types, or you name it. Every single human is different, so every try to categorize covers only a few colors of the spectrum. We need to keep this in mind while watching pigeonhole-videos. Of course they are pleasant to watch too.

John 3:16 [16]For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Luke 13:3 [3]I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. John 14:6 [6]Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jeremiah 29:13 King James Version 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. John 8:12 [12]Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Luke 6:27-38 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also. 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. 6:33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. 6:34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. 6:36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Matthew 5:2-12 King James Version 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 24:4-14 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Exodus 20 King James Version 20 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. 13 Thou shalt not kill. 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15 Thou shalt not steal. 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. ..,..,..,.., .......... .,........,. ,..,,,,,,,,.., ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ..........,,

I totally relate to Eros, but as soon as Mania came up i started having an internal struggle to sway off the thoughts that i am sometimes quite emotionally attached, and i can get easily hurt sometimes, even by the smallest of things, and that's of course something i want to slowly overcome. But as far as Eros goes, Agape was the one that really rang a bell to my soul, i tend to prioritize my partner way more than i do myself, and when i feel like it isn't reciprocal, the Mania part grabs my feet and makes me trip on my own feelings, and i tend to stay down until i can reassure myself that it was just an isolate incident, and that my partner still loves me, its kind of a pain! hahah. But yeah, i hope i can better myself bit by bit everyday, and make sure that both me and my partner are as happy as possible!
