That's the same engine that I have in my 1991 Toyota Corolla Alltrac. Only mine is 5spd manual. Great Jackie Chan Adventures reference at the end.

Hey Jimmy, big fan of your videos! I joined the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and am currently in tech school. Once I graduate I'll be able to head back home for 12 days and help out a recruiter. I'm planning on buying a car while home and drive to my operational base with it. Do you recommend any specific car models that are cheap & reliable? My top choice right now is probably the 03-08 9th gen. Corolla, but I'm looking to expand my options. If I posted a list of all the cars I have in mind, could you take a look at it? Would like a professional car mechanic's opinion on it :3 Also keep pumping out the vids! Was a treat to see a bunch of new ones after I got out of basic training lol

1999 to 2006 Corolla is a very good choice, the 98-02 Corollas are pretty cheap for what you get. The 03-06 models are good but still pretty pricey for a good one. A Toyota Matrix or Pontiac Vibe is a good choice too, you can get a vibe for $2k or less and they're exactly the same as a Toyota Corolla Matrix motor and all. Honda Fits are also very good little cars for the price, so are early Honda CRVs (the 95-03 models). If you post a list I can go through each car and explain the good/bad/reliability of each one. Basically a Japanese car from 1993 to 2006 is a good choice more or less.

@@jimmyjimjims7483 Thanks Jimmy I appreciate it, I know you're busy with your new job and all. I was aiming to make the list up of cars I could find for $3k or less and be fairly reliable. 01. (03-08) Toyota Corolla, 9th Gen. 02. (97-01) Toyota Camry, 4th Gen. 03. (96-02) Honda Accord, 6th Gen. 04. (01-05) Honda Civic, 7th Gen. 05. (96-00) Honda Civic, 6th Gen. 06. @@WasabiWarlord75 01. (03-08) Toyota Corolla, 9th Gen. Great car for the money, probably one of the most reliable cars ever built 02. (97-01) Toyota Camry, 4th Gen. The BEST gen of Camry hands down, go for the 4 cylinder as the V6 is prone to leaking 03. (96-02) Honda Accord, 6th Gen. Nearly bulletproof if taken care of, amazing car 04. (01-05) Honda Civic, 7th Gen. Very good little cars but have headgasket issues after 200k miles or so 05. (96-00) Honda Civic, 6th Gen. Indestructible if you can even find any left that aren't riced out, very good cars 06. (02-06) Honda CR-V, 2nd Gen. Good little vehicles, reliable and easy to fix 07. (01-10) Volvo S60, 1st Gen. Swedish pile of parts that have many issues 08. (97-06) Volvo S80, 1st Gen. Another Swedish pile of loosely assembled legos, pricey to fix when they die (and it WILL) 09. (95-99) Nissan Maxima, 4th Gen. Fairly good cars but have issues after 220k miles or so, good if bought for cheap 09. (97-03) Chevrolet Malibu, 5th Gen. Very good cars for a GM product, the V6 in these are like tanks if maintained and switched to the proper green coolant 10. (00-05) Chevrolet Impala, 8th Gen. Good cars with robust engines but weak transmissions 11. (06-13) Chevrolet Impala, 9th Gen. JUNK 13. (00-07) Ford Taurus, 4th Gen. Prone to eating transmissions once every 80k miles, not much good as a car (good as a boat anchor tho) 13. (98-12) Ford Crown Victoria 2nd Gen. Nearly indestructible but often abused, look for a granny mobile and you'll have a winner that can do 350k miles 14. (03-11) Mercury Grand Marquis, 4th Gen. Also pretty good cars, used as taxis and most are dead now but worth a look 15. (00-05) Buick LeSabre, 8th Gen. Good cars but are also prone to trans issues after 130k miles, interiors like to disintegrate 16. (97-04) Buick Regal, 4th Gen. Decent enough for the time but are getting long in the tooth, there are better options 17. (97-05) Buick Century, 6th Gen. Great cars, if taken care of can do 250k miles 18. (99-05) Pontiac Grand Am, 5th Gen. This gen of Grand Am was my personal favorite, keep in mind its literally just a Malibu so they'll get the job done but leak while doing it lol

@@jimmyjimjims7483 Thank you so much Jim! Really helped narrow down my options. Glad to know the 5th Gen. Malibu and Grand Am are reliable, I've seen a few drive around base. Is it true that GM cars are more prone to rust than Asian makes? Might hold off on getting a car when I take leave, meaning I'll buy one later when I visit my extended family in New Jersey. It seems used cars go for much cheaper there and there's a way bigger variety than there is in Florida.

Good job ! I was watching another one of you older videos where you were looking at a truck , which one I can’t remember. In the video you said something along the lines of you weren’t going to buy it as it was manual , you had troubles selling manuals before or something . What’s the go there ? People don’t buy manuals ?

I think I was looking at an early 90's Dakota but yeah I don't buy manuals, I just can't sell them when it come times to get rid of them. Last manual I bought I sat on it for 6 months and sold it at a loss so no more of those. Reason being a large number of my buyers are Hispanic and live in Mexico right across the border so they sit in traffic on the border bridge for hours, no fun having a clutch on a steep bridge in the sun for hours...
