Godzilla is one of the most iconic movie monsters of all time. Since 1954’s Godzilla, the monster has turned into a pop culture icon and has spawned over 30 movies spanning six decades.
There is a reason Godzilla is called the "King of the Monsters.” The sea monster was inspired by Japan coming to grips with the memory of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings, and he has become a symbol of nuclear energy’s destructive power.

As a very pretentious Godzilla fan I was expecting a video about misunderstanding what Godzilla movies mean not looking into the wide ranging themes of the many films. BUT I was wrong. This video is actually really good and very well put together. I might disagree with some choices but the reasons for the choices are valid and well argued.

Godzilla needs to be evil, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is my favorite. So much suspense and violence. That's why most people watch these.

Alas, always so much hate for Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster. So what if it was originally supposed to feature Kong. Godzilla is perfectly capable of being captivated by a beautiful island girl. Waking him from his sleep in the beginning was fun. And seeing him play with Ebirah’s claw like a kid, after he defeats him was hysterical.

I grew up watching Godzilla movies on TV in the 70s. I always felt that the best Godzilla movies are the most ridiculous ones. The attempts to make it "serious" lose the charm of the "that's obviously a guy in a rubber suit" films. With bad overdubs.

Id say KotM was better then GvK. Not only did it have good monster action, but at least the humans werent entirely irrelevant. Also Shin Godzilla to me was not scary at all, it was about as threatening as a goldfish and just goofy looking. All it did was walk in a straight line, all you had to do was turn and you were safe. It had no goal, no personality, no identity.

I read a lot of commets dissing Jet Jaguar. Jet made that movie. It was a better Tornado Tag Match than WWE could ever pull off and, how can you not love Jets' theme song. PUNCH, PUNCH, PUNCH!!!

Interesting story: In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, there's a scene where the pre-Godzilla monster steps on U.S. troops during WWII. That scene offended our then President, George H.W. Bush so much so that slapped a trade ban on all incoming movies from that film on out; was thought of by him as being unpatriotic if not a slap in the face by the Japanese. Well, 1992 comes along and the incumbent was defeated and in comes our new president, William Jefferson (Bill) Clinton. He saw the same film but since he was the 1st U.S. President born after WWII, when he saw the same film, his opinion was that 'It's only a movie' and he lifted the ban thus allowing the heisei series to be purchased in the U.S.

Hey can't dog Godzilla vs the sea monster that much. It was decent. One movie missing from the best list though. Final Wars! BUT the worst list was spot on for sure. Could have subbed Godzilla vs the sea monster for Invasion of Astro-Monster. That movie was just plain awful. lol Then maybe sub Ghidora the three headed monster for Final Wars. BUT Ghidorah the three headed monster is a super close 7th. But geez then ya have the first Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla too. It's all pretty though to solidify a top 7 lol. Maybe do a runner up to the best next time. haha

Godzilla vs Gigan is definitely one of the worst even though Gigan himself is pretty legit. The movie is just full of stock footage from Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster movie and Godzilla’s suit is literally falling apart from all the movies before. And one of the times Godzilla and Anguirus talk it sounds awful. And yes, I said talk.😂 Also when Ghidorah is flying in that movie, he looks stiff and lifeless unlike previous installments.

I liked the creature design of Roland's Godzilla. The buildup to the reveal I liked. But the decision to make Godzilla into an alien queen ripoff with hundreds of eggs in Madison Square Gardens I thought was a terrible decision that ruins the movie in my opinion. Also,Roland did no favors to US armed forces by making them appear as idiots.

@Lollipop love Roland Emerich did his own thing to frustration of Toho Studios. But I did like the Iguana idea. The a-sexual reproduction and hundreds of fertilized eggs in Madison Square Gardens I could have gone without though. Hence why the cartoon series was much better than the 98 movie.

If I were 50 years old then I'd probably be more into the Monsterverse but I'm not. I like older films but ones with just humans. How could anyone that's only seen the newer Godzilla films ever think the older and original films are better? A $200M film v a $30,000 film. Godzilla KOTM is so visually stunning alone, I can't bring myself to watch a claymation Zilla or some lesser version.

I'm 28 and grew up watching the old Japanese godzilla movies in English dub and still love the movies. I prefer the newer ones but I occasionally go back to the classics. It was a huge part of my childhood.

The original Godzilla 54 and original King Kong 33 are still better than anything done today.. just because you spend millions on something doesn't make it better..as far as KOM being visually stunning ? How could you tell, the monsters were hard to see most of the time ...and in the 2014 Godzilla movie he was hardly on screen at all ...I've watched all the previous Godzilla and King Kong movies and the original ones are still the best most fans would say the same

Because they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. It doesn't matter if you have millions of dollars or less than a million, you can still make a stunning film such as the original Gojira.

@@bardssinisterstories2607 Yeah. You can make a great film on just about any budget. Everyone is commenting as fans of the Godzilla series. I am not. That's my whole point. Because the older films are terrible to me. The monsters look terrible, many are people in costumes or puppets. Versus what CGI and various technologies can create today....no comparison. The scripts, the acting may be better. The filming locations. But no way does Godzilla look more badass in any films than in the last two.

Nah, but it was definitely an odd pick choosing the most recent film as the best. Maybe for the hype factor? Idk, GVK was great but definitely not the best of the Monsterverse films. Skull Island is exceptional and KOTM is virtually a perfect Godzilla movie. The entire subplot with Mecha G is nonsensical and Mecha G himself is underwhelming.

I totally disagree with you. I think the only thing we agree on is Godzilla raids again, godzilla 1998, though I will admit for me Godzilla 1954 through 1975 are the best. Except raids again . An the young godzilla name is Menya. Milla is later.

Well, it is a fun movie, but it's not Godzilla, because we rate it based on what it promises and that movie does not at all give what it said to.

i love godzilla raids again. think about it the only reason why people dont like it is because the american version ruined it. But still i love that movie and its also golden beacause its the first godzilla movie that has godzilla fighting his first oppenent. In my opinion godzilla raids again is one of my favorite godzilla movies of all time

Godzilla 98 is very good !! I don't get the hate. Yeah sure, it's not Godzilla, it's Zilla. But it's an awesome kaiju movie ! Much better than many of the Japanese movies. Sure better than Godzilla 2014...

@@vickiyoung5786 Sure, the monster has nothing to do with Godzilla. But the movie in itself was very good, just watch it like a standalone kaiju movie.

@@vickiyoung5786 Absolutely ! I can totally get the disappointment in 98 because of that. But it's been 23 years... And Zilla has been retconned as a different kaiju in the main series, he was even killed by the real Godzilla^^
