There is actually a bigger cartridge based on the .50 BMG case. And that's the .729 Jongman! Created by an Australian gunsmith. That's .50 BMG necked up to 12 Gauge, which I believe is the largest diameter bullet it can contain. 😛 Shoot it!

Scott, a few years back Ian did a video at Rock Island of a 950jd. It was a pretty MASSIVE gun, and it would be perfect for you if you can find one. As far as other targets for the 700, I think everyone would agree that a zombie needs to feel it's wrath. Also, it would be neat to see your wooden maul used on a fresh zombie torso. Just to see what that thing can do to an uncompromised chest and head. You truly are a modern barbarian. 80's Arnold would be proud. ^_^

For those wondering about Muzzle velocity, i've estimated that in oder to produce 200+lb of recoil as Scott stated, with a 20 lb rifle, 1000 grain bullet, and 50bmg powder weight of around 250 grains, you'd need to push the bullet at anywhere between 2300 fps (199.85 lbs) to 2400 fps (211.26 lbs).

Both for just seeing how impressive they are in much greater detail.. and the more obvious seeing what they do to a ballistic dummy in super slow motion. *Edit: You could also do something like have Gav or Dan stand beside you, line up right, and then both shoot at the same time. You with a big bore, and the other with a more typical caliber of rifle. See how the recoil compares more directly or something? Hey Scott! I'm not sure if it's possible to find one in a condition to be shot or whether any ammunition is available for it, but there's a REALLY big rifle from WWI called the M1918 Tankgewehr. It's an anti tank rifle that fires a 13mm round. It would probably be similar to .50 BMG. Probably only something you can find in a museum, but if there's someone out there that could make a replica, it would be awesome to see!

I sold 7 rounds of 14.5 x 114 mm dad picked up at a gun show decades ago on Gunbroker a couple years ago. Those 7 rounds brought $400. Massive round, and dwarfs the 50 BMG. HUGE case capacity. Rounds are a touch longer than a dollar bill. Russian round. Machine gun round, but have been shoulder fired rifles chambered in it. I have pictures, but cannot post them here, but you can look it up. Shoots a 994 grain AP bullet at 3300 fps!

The 1861 Springfield rifle-musket, the 1853 Enfield rifle-musket and the Confederate Richmond rifle-musket all used a .58 caliber Minie ball. These rifles and projectiles lent themselves to such great accuracy as to make frontal assaults virtually suicidal. Half of the Confederate soldiers participating in Pickett's Charge did not make it to the Union lines. NONE of the Union soldiers assaulting Marye's Heights made it to the wall.
