I don't think anyone has collected this material so well in a single video. I wish I had this video 8 years ago when I started. It would have saved hours of piecemeal learning with books and diagrams.

So glad this was helpful! Definitely, these positions are so confusing to learn from the front view! Don't forget to download the PDF of all positions labeled and photographed from the back view for more practice & memorization www.brocheballet.com/blog-1/2020/11/11/body-positions-and-arabesques-of-ballet-back-view-images Happy dancing! :)

This is incredibly useful with the explanation about the tendus in relation to your body and your body in relation to the room! I feel like I might really be able to remember this now. I'm also very interested in differences between schools and would love to see a video on that!

What a great (and thorough) video! I really like that you do front and back. At one point you make an offhanded comment about schools of ballet and arms. I wonder if you might do a video comparing the different schools? In university, I took an adult ballet class that I now realise was Balanchine - but at the time, just “ballet”. Now (years later, after a long break) I’m doing two classes a week, one Vaganova and the other RAD (although taught by someone originally trained in Vaganova). Initially the ride from Balanchine to Vaganova was pretty bumpy, as it felt like all the details in my technique were wrong, and I really had no idea what was going on! Now as I understand a bit better, I find I enjoy the contrast in techniques .. but also that I don’t have a good grounding in the differences, and so sometimes don’t understand what is important. I also feel like I would appreciate Balanchine much better now than I did then! A video talking about these topics would be really great. Thanks.

We are so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for the suggestion! There are many schools of ballet and it would be helpful to review each one!

Thank you. You make it simpler. I would like to watch the detail about the arm and head position
@BrocheBallet3 жыл бұрын
Wonderful! The only video I have on the head on the channel right now is this one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbd7asmAlpbXlZc.html Many of the same principles apply, for how to use your head when your arm is high, a la seconde, or in arabesque. I'll consider doing another video on general "epaulement" as it's called, when you add in the head motions and a slight cambré to the body positions!

I see the efface back but is there an ecarte back?
@BrocheBallet3 жыл бұрын
Only in Vaganova! Ecarte back is facing the same direction as ecarte front, except your back leg is the one in tendu side, and your back arm is the one that is high. Hope that helps! :)
@emily-rb5dk3 жыл бұрын
@@BrocheBallet thank you! My teacher does the cechetti method and its so new to me. All the videos I've done online have been Balanchine or vagonava method
@BrocheBallet3 жыл бұрын
@@emily-rb5dk Gotcha, yes! Those schools use ecarte back, whereas Cechetti doesn't. Croisé back is also sometimes done with the other arm in those other schools as well, so keep an eye on where that croisé back arm is when your teachers are demo'ing. Hope that helps! Happy dancing :)

Could you do a video on the positions of the body, when at the barre?
@BrocheBallet4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the video request! Just a quick clarification! -- Are you referring to when you might angle your body towards/away in order to not kick your neighbor in a grand battement as an example?
@beljw4 жыл бұрын
@@BrocheBallet Yes, but as well a clarification of, for example, tendus in direction croise to the barre, ecarte devant and ecarte derriere, where the body is turned, in relation to the barre.
@BrocheBallet4 жыл бұрын
@@beljw Thank you for clarifying! We'll take that into consideration for a future video!!
