Well I'm from Cleveland I dont think he was underrated. The PG spot was loaded at that time but he still made allstar teams, all nba teams.. its just that his skill set is more "appreciated" now bc it fits the playing style of "PGs" now. He was a shooter that disrupted the rock well. His shortcomings came on defense like Nash, Curry and unlike Isiah Thomas john Stockton etc etc.. the cavs whole team fits todays era more than the late 80s early 90s. We had shooters and skilled players ..the league wanted dunkers and slashers

@@Nurmi860 You must not know much about 80's bball and just how good Mark Price was then. The guy shot over 40% 3pt and over 90% FT...for his career! The only other players I could find to do it are S. Curry and S.Nash...both MVP's of the league.

If Harper didn't have those knee injuries, he could've been one of the elite players in the NBA. By the time he got to Chicago for those 3 championships, he was a shell of his former self. Unfortunate that he didn't get mentioned more in The Last Dance.

The Cavs were on a similar overall level as the Knicks in that era, although I'm sure they would've done more if not for untimely injuries, and if they kept Ron Harper. Those were good tough teams that the Bulls had to get by, but they did, even though there was struggle. The Pistons are remembered more as a Bulls-roadblock cause they actually beat the Bulls, and then won in the Finals after that. The Knicks win over the Bulls in 94' somewhat doesn't count, cause Jordan was banned for gambling, and cause the Knicks lost to the Rockets in the Finals.

Amazing player. That Cavs team was snakebit with injuries. If he, Harper and Daughrety stayed healthy...would have made for a great rivlary with Chicago.

I think he was the first to split the trap (I think, anyway). He's also a part of the exclusive 90% FT/50% field/40% 3-point club.

@@TRJ2241987 back then it was Price and Ricky Pierce that were best free throw shooters. I've seen Pierce miss 2 in a row and 3 in a game, including a technical foul. Price only time I've seen him miss was in game 6 elimination against Bulls with very few time left on the clock.

Those 88-89 Cavaliers could definitely beat the Pistons. They were tearing up the league early in the season. Could beat Detroit in Detroit. Way ahead. Magic called them "team of the 1990s".

Anybody who stepped in the same room as Jordan gets a legacy boost, because if Jordan played them they have to be great right? In reality they are the late 80s,early 90s equivalent of the Derozan, Lowry Raptors. Good not great.

The ones they wore from the mid 80s to mid 90s (right before the move to the Gund Arena). Those looked the most wholesome to me.

The main reason is the footage. We have HD and 4K cameras now - they can show off the players better. I remember being stationed in San Antonio during the early 2000's and going to the games and the playoffs - the guys were much faster than what they appear on TV. A lot of the 80 and 90s stuff is on VHS or 480p quality.

Price never had a season where he averaged more than 20 points which was typical of good small point guards back then. If they were all-stars they averaged between 15 to 20 points a game.

yeah its a shame people don't even remember him as a starter and key player in game 4 of the finals on the 2000 lakers or his game winner vs portland ...his career is so underrated...he was a budding star went to the clippers still a star got hurt became a role player and then won rings but people remember kerr and fisher over him on those teams sadly...he was on the 2001 lakers too....harper man what a odd career

@@swpdisciple It was more because his prime was cut short due to injuries though, than even career being cut short. He played till he was 34 (same age at which Troy Aikman retired, who was a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer). Neither had the longevity, but Troy was basically in his prime from 2nd season till season before his last, whereas Price really only had about 5 prime performance seasons. He didn't play till he was 41 like John Stockton, but 34 is a relatively advanced age already, even if no injuries. I already started losing some noticeable foot speed and jumping ability at 26, and I was never injured, yet always training since 12. So many don't realize how narrow an athletic window can really be. Mark Price was 'only' 25 in 89', but between the Rick Mahorn brutal elbow, and then the groin pull he was playing through in the Bulls series, that caused him to also miss the opening Game of that series the Cavs lost at home by 7, it was a devastating blow. Craig Ehlo was getting older, and nursing a sprained ankle in that same series that caused him to miss Game 3 in Chicago, that the Cavs lost by 7. They were clearly not at full strength in the 4 games that each of them did play in. I wasn't sure they had more chances to come w/ that group, and they had a few more good teams after that, but I only felt they really could've won it all in 89'.

Some prudent double teams would have been smart. "The Jordan Rules" did a lot. The Celtics double teamed MJ the whole game after the 63 point game, and he got 19. Wilkins missed it.
