Thanks for posting this. What's awful is that since this was made TV has gotten worse. All these programmes were conceived with good intentions, the humour comes from the failure to produce quality TV; now TV is deliberately downmarket. Noel's House Party for instance was a rubbish programme done superbly well. TV Hell 2010 would only feature work done since 1992.

Having watched Churchill's People recently I can only conclude it has aged like fine wine, an eclectic series of stage plays from the Picts to Victoria with many of the finest actors of the 1970's. Don't listen to these Fabián society critics, if you get a chance watch Churchill's People it's much better than any of the rubbish broadcast on the terminally woke BBC today.

So Churchill's People is the reason that UK series are only 4 to 6 episode per series.

I wish they'd make more programmes like that and run a few themed evenings nowadays...TV was so much better in the 80s and 90s when I received only 5 channels...where has it all gone so terribly wrong?

Of course all of these programs still exist in the archives while footage of the first moon landing and a big chunk of 60's Doctor Who got junked. Thanks BBC.

I like how Joanna Wyatt is an "ex-Minipopper". Then the "creator of the show" comes on and it's... Martin Wyatt. How did she ever get on?

This evening was hosted by Paul Merton and Angus Deaton. I was wondering do you have the last bit of the bit of the evening when Paul Merton is knocked down and returned back to TV Hell?

I kind of get the impression that the "Minipops" was meant to be a bit of a joke. Reminds me of that series of films that Shirley Temple was in (her first, I believe) at age three -- it was a sort of parody of adult movies, with toddlers drinking, gambling, running extortion rackets, etc. and little Miss Temple wearing tight evening-dresses and vamping it up (her character was meant to poke fun at Mae West). Some poe-faced quack was on her Biography Channel documentary, telling us all that this was for "very unhealthy" reasons (someone has no sense of humor!) This show gave children the chance to display their talents, and the girls probably loved the opportunity to dress up -- and, yes to wear makeup (most little girls like to play with and experiment with makeup -- I played with a two-year-old who was determined to try mine out, so I helped her). It also gave them a chance to earn a little cash, which their family might well have needed. Obviously everyone on television needs to wear makeup anyway (but it doesn't need to show). I was in a production of "The Nutcracker" at age six. This was the very first time that I had my hair styled -- and wore lipstick and blush. I was a bird, so I wore (gasp!) a leotard. Probably some of the men in the audience had impure thoughts about either me or some of the other birds in this production. I could not care less, it was a terrific experience, despite that. Contrary to popular belief, actually, things like this and child beauty-pagents have very little appeal to pedophiles. They will usually say that they really dislike little girls all made up and in heels, etc. They like them dressed in typical little-girl fashion, sans cosmetics. So if you want to stop them having naughty thoughts about little girls (although that's pretty much impossible -- not many men can suppress ALL of their naughty thoughts!) cake on the makeup and make 'em wear sexy clothes! (That was a joke, settle down now.) To cut to the chase (too late!): lighten up, people.
