Philadelphia, colloquially Philly, is the largest city in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and the sixth-most populous U.S. city, with a 2019 estimated population of 1,584,064.[8] Since 1854, the city has had the same geographic boundaries as Philadelphia County, the most-populous county in Pennsylvania and the urban core of the eighth-largest U.S. metropolitan statistical area, with over 6 million residents as of 2017.[6] Philadelphia is also the economic and cultural center of the greater Delaware Valley along the lower Delaware and Schuylkill rivers within the Northeast megalopolis. The Delaware Valley's population of 7.2 million makes it the eighth-largest combined statistical area in the United States.[7]

At the beginning is this video, you passed the Steel Heddle Building, 2100 W. Allegheny. It is a National Landmark, and as such cannot be torn down. However, it has recently been declared an Opportunity Zone, and will be made into affordable housing. This is of interest to me, as my father worked there from right after WWII until his passing in 1971. Thanks for sharing this video.

Enjoyed the video. Seeing all those massive industrial buildings and imagining what it was like back in the day. My grandfather worked as a welder for the Budd Corp. plant in Philly. Always loved taking taking the Septa trains through the industrial areas of N. Philly when we would visit.

A lot of those abandoned buildings in the beginning are being turned into condos etc or being torn down. Thats Allegheny West and its a good area to invest in real estate

thats what the corrupt politicians want to happen they sit on properties until they drain the emotional resistance from the locals then sell them down the river for bribes from real estate developers

I spent a good 8 months or so working on the drawings for the Steel Heddle Factory at 21st and Allegheny (see 1:03 in). I surveyed and did the drawings for that entire complex as it was connected to two other buildings, one heavy timber four story and a one story brick infill (see 3:55). The project did not come to fruition. I pretty much knew every nook and cranny of those buildings.

I grew up in this area of Philly. Whose fault is all this urban blight? It's a combination of factors. Companies refused to modernize. Corporations outsourcing labor. Neighborhood residents couldn't get loans to rehab property or obtain mortgages. People with means moved away due to crime. So many factors. Lots of factories and businesses are long gone. Clothing factories, auto part manufacturers, electronics, etc. Is it any wonder why we have the problems we've got? Anyone out there have any suggestions to make things better?

Hello greetings from Argentina, I would like to know if anyone knows which factories operated in those places, it is clear that it was once a thriving city, like many in the United States, thanks in advance, I already subscribed and I liked it

All I can think of watching these videos with graffitied buildings is that they would be so much better having the song the message by grandmaster flash playing in the background

Eliminate the corporate tax for the companies and the wage tax for the employees and this place will build things once again!

This has been like this for decades. America starred outsourcing and millions of jobs along with companies went over seas. Why do you think all of those abandoned factories and warehouses ? Why pay someone in this country a decent wage when you can pay someone in another country a bowl of rice a week to do the exact same job ?

A year later the city had to hire a qualified contractor to perform major repairs on horrible job down by ahole goodies buddy. Wonder how much kick back o mean political contributions he made from this.
