Bought a MAC2400 about 8 years ago. The tank started leaking today. Not too bad considering I only drained it 2 times the whole time I owned it and it sits in a trailer through Minnesota winters. Probably could fix the leak but the regulator has been leaking lately, the drain valve is broke and could use a new filter. I feel I got my money worth. It can do a framing gun full time and I'm able to do ceiling texture with it but have to give it a break here and there which is ok because I need to refill the hopper.

the Metabo pancake is a good compressor (what I have now , it is the BEST pancake in my opinion) , BUT , it would not be as quiet .... lightweight , tons of air ..... I used to be an Emglo man , but they just got too heavy in my old age , now I have the Metabo , but if I buy another compressor I will check out the Makita ... Going to be hard to beat the Metabo , but we'll see ... thank you for the review

That’s an interesting point. I will store this compressor in my van overnight and bring it inside for my work. I have never had a problem with start up, and I live in Maine, but I am not working outside all day, nor do I live in Canada. Thanks for your comment and stay warm this winter. :)

You are right, it is heavy compared to the oil-less ones. I still believe the oil lubricated ones are more durable, but if that’s not important to you, there are some good options. I have a link to one in the video description.

Could you use this for a drywall texture hopper for when you are repairing drywall, say nothing bigger than a 3 foot patch? I need something for handyman jobs. The hopper says it needs at least a 2.4 CFM at 90psi. Thank you.

Could you run two cleat nailers for engendered hardwood with getting ahead of it?
@DavidSmith-qz7be
@DavidSmith-qz7be 10 күн бұрын
That is a good question. It depends. If I racked out a large section of hardwood (got it cut and laid out - ready to be tapped into place and nailed) I could just barely get ahead of it. So, two guys working fast could need more air. Check out amzn.to/4dLD4Ol

Thanks for the great review. I am just about ready to pull the trigger on this one. I will be keeping it in my garage and mostly using it for car tires and lawn tractor tires. Is the tank size sufficient to fill 4 tires? What kind of oil would you suggest since the garage can get extremely hot in summer and bitterly cold in winter? (I live in IL)
@DavidSmith-qz7be
@DavidSmith-qz7be 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry it has taken so long to respond to your comment. This compressor does have a small tank, but fills fast. I don’t think it would fill a car tire from just the tank, but it will fill it fast while running. I just use standard air compressor oil. It seems to work fine at any temperature. :)

Hi David, Did you ever do the video on the air fittings? I just picked up a one day used MAC 700. It seems much quieter that in your video. Maybe its the microphone? Roofer I bought it from said it could not keep up to 2 roofing guns. His Bostitch died, and this is all he could find that day locally. He uses the Bostitch 6 gallon pancake compressor. The specs claim it to be quieter then the MAC 700. I doubt that. I also have a Hitachi EC1110 Mini Wheelbarrow 5 Gal that is quiet, but I am having a lot of condensation coming out of the air lines. Not sure why it's so bad, maybe it runs too hot? I really like the design of it, wish Makita would make a mini wheeled unit or a wheel kit for their MAC2400.

@@DavidSmith-qz7be That is fabulous. Any idea as to who builds the Makita brand? Many compressor brands come from the same factory with only slight variations in appearance and color. Pontiac and Chevy came from the same factories. a Firebird and a Camero were basically the same car. Someone said that Makita and California Air Tools are the same compressors. Any ideas? ALSO... How about those leakless air fittings???

Hey David such a great review. Very honest opinion. Will you please make a video about the best bushings that do not leak. Im in the market for an air compressor and this Makita MAC700 seems like a nice one. I want to use it for a brad nailer for furniture making and so forth. Would you recommend any other brad nailer besides the Makita AF505N Brad Nailer, 2-Inch. Mostly im building benches and furniture for home use and just getting started. Your input would be much appreciated.
@DavidSmith-qz7be
@DavidSmith-qz7be 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug, Thanks for your comments and best of luck as you start making furniture. I have never owned the Makita brad nailer, but I trust the brand. Probably any of the popular brands will serve you well for many years. I own and use daily the Hitachi (amzn.to/2IK8FUG). The first brad nailer I bought 20 years ago was a Porter Cable, which failed quickly. In any case, I'd recommend getting one that shoots 2" nails. In any case, the Makita AF505n (amzn.to/2orbGlT) looks good to me. It is very similar to the Hitachi and shoots 2" nails. I like the "tool-less" quick release for clearing jams. Should be good. :)

@DavidSmith-qz7be
@DavidSmith-qz7be 4 жыл бұрын
@@namoodesignstudiollc3994 Definitely. Brad nailers don’t use much air at all, so you won’t have any trouble with the compressor keeping up. About the only time this compressor can’t keep up with me is when I am nailing off plywood with big framing gun; shooting 2-3 nails per second. ;)

I need an portable/light weight compressor to test and charge a 2500 litre volume pvc pipe line with air upto the pressure of 6 kg/cm2. What compressor will you suggest?
@DavidSmith-qz7be
@DavidSmith-qz7be 5 жыл бұрын
6 kg/cm is approximately 85 psi and most air compressors will do the job. You mention that you would like a lightweight compressor. The MAC700 is not light. It’s advantages as I see it are durability, low noise and low electrical draw. If your main concern is weight, I’d go with any oil-less model, but don’t expect it to last very long if you are using it daily.

Is there an air compressor of that size that you don’t plug in for power?
@DavidSmith-qz7be
@DavidSmith-qz7be 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think so. Air compressors use a lot of power. I have seen some that plug into the cigarette lighter of a vehicle, but they are pretty slow. If you need a compressor to handle building projects where no electricity is available; you can buy compressors powered by a gasoline engine. Here is a link to one: amzn.to/3kstgzC

I know a lot of people use this for framing. I can get ahead of it when I am using a framing gun to nail off a large section of sheathing. If you are shooting a couple nails per second for extended times, I’d go for the next size up. I think I have a link for that in my description also…

Questions....if someone can help. I have a small pancake compressor in gRage. It leaks air slowly... shouldn't it hold the same air for a long time.. does it have a leak? Also thought of getting a portable air tank to carry in trunk. Do these slowly lose air also.. how often do you have to give them a top off to stay full? I heard it's bad to leave air in tanks.. due to moisture.. is this true also?
@DavidSmith-qz7be
@DavidSmith-qz7be Жыл бұрын
Hi Princeton Man. I will answer your question to the best of my knowledge. Air compressors should hold air without leaking, but it is typical for them to develop leaks from many possible places. You can buy portable air tanks to carry in your car (amzn.to/3Eszvxz) but I would recommend a small air compressor that runs off the cigarette lighter. (amzn.to/3E1mVUB) The issue with moisture is that when air is compressed, moisture in the air condenses and collects in a compressor's tank. That water speeds up the rusting process in the tank and can lead to failure. Compressors have a valve on the bottom of the tank to drain the extra moisture. Doing this regularly will increase the live of the compressor.
