No matter which glorious American State you happen to reside in (or be visiting), there's a regional chain restaurant with food that's verifiably bomb. We'll take a walk through U S of A to find the best restaurant chains based in each one. You can bet that each of these chains has a rabid following, and that each one defines the state and its culture, in some small way or other. We're not saying that this food is going to be healthy, but it will be tasty and (almost always) cheap. So gas up the RV and stock up on the Tums. We're going on a roadtrip! This is the absolute best restaurant chain in every state!

What do you think is the best restaurant chain in your state?

Milo's burgers used to be good, not any more. Today their chicken tenders are much better than their burgers. Their burger meat is fairly tough and grainy, it takes some work to get through one. But it wasn't always like this, back in the 80s when I moved back to Birmingham from Houston they had only one restaurant. I am thinking it was on 10th Avenue North just north of the downtown area. That was a great burger and there is no way you could duplicate that sauce. The sauce today is nothing like what they had prior to 2000 I think the best chain here now is Tazikis. It is a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for right ?

Louisiana -- Don's Seafood & Steakhouse. Hands down!! ------ Arkansas - while not a chain, Cajun’s Wharf is highly recommended.

@@MoonlightDawnMoolightDawn That is a good looking menu at Don's. I go down there often so have added them to my restaurant bucket list. Heck, I could make a meal off just some of the appetizers, they have the shrimp remoulade I do love. The grilled stuffed shrimp sounds amazing

Pickle Barrel is great ! But Jersey Mike's is giving them a run for their money!! When I was a kid , Pickel Barrel sandwiches were huge ! The used a whole loaf of French bread and almost a pound of meat and cheese ! Now the are half that size or less ! EVER since the exodus up here, a lot of the local places sold out and left ! Can't blame them ! It sucks here now ! Montana

Harold's is not even a top 20 chain in Illinois. Most Harold's have closed down, and the ones that didn't are never that busy. Portillos is easy the top chain in Illinois. Go to any one of Portillos restaurants, during any time, and it is always jammed packed.

I'd take Popeye"s over Harold's any day. Portillo's is where it's at for Illinois. We had a Harold's in Rockford for a few months. Went there once. They said we'd have to wait 25 minutes to get our food. Safe to say they ain't open anymore. Viva Portillo's!

I KNEW Texas was gonna be Whataburger!! Yay!! About 5 years ago, I decided to stop eating red meat. But once a month, I treat myself to a Whataburger with cheese and jalapenos! SO delicious!! There's no way I could ever stop eating Whataburger! (My colleagues eat Whataburger at least twice a week, which makes it even more tempting!)

Hooters was started in Florida. It would be far more recognizable than PDQ, but that wouldn't make it better. Although, I've never heard of PDQ.

I love Culver's. They are consistent with the quality of food and guest service. I've never had a bad meal there, everything is always hot and fresh. The custard is super good too!

More of a Seattle thing, but Ivars is the best food chain I can think of coming from Washington. Great clam chowder and consistency with fish dishes like halibut and salmon!

I was curious which Okie-based chain you'd pick--Braum's, Sonic, Taco Bueno, Steak N Shake or Mazzio's. All are good, but I'd have to go with Steak N Shake.

Ask anyone from Tucson and they will tell you Eegees is the best chain in the state. They are mainly in Tucson with a few in phoenix, and their frozen eegees which are a frozen drink similar to a icee are to die for. Their orignal grinder sandwich and ranch fries are the bomb too

That you picked Gold Star over Skyline, or any other local restaurant chain in the entire state of Ohio disqualifies you from ever expressing an opinion about "best" *anything* forever.

agreed! a better choice would have been the restaurant exclusive to Ohio, "Mr. Hero". They have the best food and are all over the state, unlike Gold Star.

I lived in NJ from 1969 until 1988 and never heard of them. I ate there once in Pittsburgh in 2003(?) they were meh. The New Brunswick White Castle and a bunch of Italian Mom & Pop places were better. (Texas Weiner II!)

We need Taco John’s in Arizona… There’s so much good authentic Mexican food here, but sometimes I crave some unapologetically NON-authentic Mexican food too… Our only options for that are Taco Bell or Del Taco Moe’s Southwest Grill is another tasty faux Mexican chain I’ve tried outside of AZ

Lion's Choice is what Arby's use to be when the latter first started out decades back. A genuinely decent and flavorful roast beef sandwich, using actual roast beef. God only knows what makes up Arby's current version.

Blake's in NM is absolutely the best! I've tried to replicate it on the grill with the best green chile I could find, but can't do it. Their fries are the best too. Sidenote: Can anyone tell me where I can get a corn dog that tastes anything like a Disneyland corn dog? I buy a season pass just so I can walk in and get a corn dog there.

IMHO, you're spot on with Lion's Choice in Missouri (by far the best), In & out in California (amazing) and Culver's in Wisconsin (they put the butter in the butter burger). I think you made a mistake in Georgia, you should have gone with Chick-Fil-A. Also in Ohio by default you would have to pick Skyline. Five Guys in Virginia? No? Nice list.

I don't know how Harold's Chicken for Illinois even got on the list. They where only in the Chicago area not the whole state of Illinois and Harold's Chicken is a place I would not even stop for chicken it now very good.

As far as Wayback Burgers goes in De. it was originally called Jake's and the original one was not on main street in Newark. It was in a crappy little building on Ogletown road. The last time I noticed someone was selling cheap paint out of that building..

I agree 100% that Tudors Biscuit world is the best chain in WV. I'm from NC, and I wish we had Tudors. Bojangles would have some issues here if Tudors was around. Outside of homemade, Tudors has the best biscuits and gravy I've ever eaten at a restaurant.

If you find yourself in Utah (sorry 😉), skip Arctic Circle, Crown Burger is the place to go. Seriously nothing like it, except the family members that broke off, to create Astro Burger, or Olympus Burger, all excellent, pretty much the same menu.

How is Coney Island or Buddy’s Pizza not labeled as the best restaurant chain in MI? Coney Island because of the coney dogs and Buddy’s Pizza because of its well known, and delicious Detroit style pizza.

taco time in washington state has ok food, but it's devoid of any flavor or spices and is pretty overpriced for what you get. burgerville in oregon is actually headquartered in washington state where there are also a number of locations, not just in oregon.

Braum's is disgusting!!! I worked there. The kitchen pre-makes the burgers and chicken and keeps them in metal lexans under heat lamps for the Speed of Service. Quality is NOT on the top of the list on hot food. The ice cream bought in the Fresh Market is often frost-bitten. My boyfriend was a cook, I was Fresh Market and Kitchen, and both of us coming from California were overwhelmed how much we missed In-And-Out. Maybe we are jaded by good fast food and good fresh markets...

I will say Braums is wildy inconsistent from owner to owner so I think it varies a lot, but I would take Culver's over it any day of the week.

As someone born and raised in Pittsburgh and spent alot of time in northeast ohio, quacker steak and lube stopped being good when all u can eat wing went away. Theres also so sky high chili in north eastern ohio

Lions choice is a mixed bag I have gone 3 times the first time I went it was the best roast beef sandwich I have ever had and I cooked roast beef on a food truck now the next 2 times hasn't been good but that first time is what I tell people about lol

Joe’s Kansas City used to be called Oklahoma Joe’s (despite being in Kansas). In Those days, there was one location which Anthony Bourdain listed as one of 14 place you must eat at before you die. I highly recommend it.

I've lived in Michigan virtually my entire life and I have never even heard of Big John's Steak and Onion. I'll keep my eye out for one and give it a try. Upon Googling them, I found that they are all in the Flint / Central Michigan area, hence why I have never heard of them. Hardly the best chain restaurant chain if it's only available in a limited local.

In Miami Florida it’s Shorty’s near Dadeland on US 1 near Kendall Drive! Absolutely incredible! Not satisfied tell them and they make it right! I’ve gone to them since the 60’s when it was open air with just screens and fans, benches and long tables! Huge portions, incredible pork, chicken, beef and all the sides! It’s an institution like Joe’s Stone Crabs on Miami Beach went there when I was only 10yo in the 50’s. So if in the Miami are give them a try you won’t be disappointed! Shorty’s is not pretentious just BBQ and sides, no glitz.

You aren’t missing anything. They only have 9 locations and I think they’re all in Columbia. I’m pretty sure most people in the state have never even seen one much less eaten there. If they were just going to pick a small chain that’s only in one city they should’ve come to Charleston. I could think of many others I’d prefer over Rush’s.

You commented on Gold Star chili in Cincinnati, having 5 locations. No, they got like 30 and about 50 in greater Cincinnati. Plus, there is Skyline with 100 locations in and around Greater Cincinnati. I think Skyline has locations in Indianapolis and Columbus. But I'll take Gold Star over Skyline any day!
