Key Groups are definitely the way to go on an MPC. And they have been around since the 4000. For FL Studio users: think of a keygroup as a sampler track. And with an 808 keygroup, you can set polyphony, add portamento/slides, stack 808s, use a different source sample for each octave, etc. It just opens up so much more than 16 levels could ever offer. And like Bolo said transposing is way easier with a keygroup. Once you get used to using them with 808s, try putting other samples in a keygroup(live instruments/percussion, sfx, baby laughing,etc) and you won't believe what kind of patches you can make.

I been running from keygroups all this time. I hate editing 808 notes with the 16 notes function. Can only edit timing but not individual note keys. This is game changing for me……🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣BOLO💨

I just recently started using the "key groups" for my 808's instead of the 16 levels but you just dropped some in-depth jewels on transposing the entire beat or individual sequences. This is one of the things I like about Maschine. All you gotta do is put the controller in keyboard mode and you’re good to go. You’ll see what notes each pad is and you can choose what scales and modes you wanna use.

I liked the video. Unfortunately I learn slow so I have to watch it about 10 more times. Also I love Crimnal Manne's drum lines and I was trying to figure out how he got those triple drum beats in his music now I know..

I use to put my 808s through the instruments 🎹 tab on the standalone to do something like that lol.

What’s the best way to record and tune vocals using the mpc live 2? Do I have to use it along side my Daw, or is there a way in standalone mode? I enjoy your content learning more day by day.

does the software work with other MiDi control devices? still having issues using the MPK mini to trigger drum sounds with said application ... but the software is pretty smooth, especially if you know what you are doing while using it!

I understand that the MPC will automatically play in key but how does that work for the keyboard? Does it just mute the notes that are out of key or does it change them? Great info! I’ve been using key groups for my 808 but I never knew I could set the scale like that.

Bolo, Im a Maschine user and looking to upgrade from my maschine studio. Im on the fence between getting a Plus or a MPC Live 2. I like the workflow on my studio but im trying to go dawless. Do you think the plus is worth it even though its not truly dawless or would you recommend the live? I dont mind starting fresh learning MPC but just cant pick one lol If you could help me out that would be much appreciated bro. (Side note, I own the Komplete Ultimate collectors edition so I would like to use those sounds but I could always get a mk3 down the road and maybe get the live for dawless.)

Did you already have that 808 set as a key group in advance or did it get to a keygroup after you hit the pad and the keygroup button? Im a mpc software user using the mpc studio 2

Great tips about key groups and transpose but just to make sure did you say that midi keyboards works with pad perform when using notes in scale? I was under the impression that only the pads worked?

That's exactly how I dew my 808s but u left out two things that I discovered threw trial and error ....... 1. First what if u have a 808 that's not C or u have a 808 that's C but you song is in a different key.... to remedy this. in program edit mode next to where u pick the 808 sample for the layer to the right change the root note from default samp to key of that 808 ( I usually chose octave 3 so I don't have to shift up my keyboard or Change MPC bank) 2. Go to sample edit make sure your on the 808 u are using.. then change parameter were it says root nt to the same key and octave u have for sample edit. ..... Now u go to main page or in pad perform on unit and change it to what ever key u want ya song to be and your 808 or one shot will play the not u hit on the keyboard or pad perform Don't worry bout under bpm were it says key then it has minor. I never change that, that section was newly added in a update it wasn't there before.. I think 2.8 or 2.9 update Sidenote..... U can do this in Maschine also and there are two things that need to be set in Maschine also. If anybody wants to know let me know Also I use key finder for finding key of 808.. it can write the key to name file also

Can someone please help me out? When working with a very long sample that I'm creating slices out of, how do I easily and quickly put an end to each slice? There has to be a faster way to throw and end on each slice without requiring me to manually slide the E all the way the hell over to that current slice! What I'm trying to do is slice up about 100+ different slices out of this long 10 minute sample I have. Of course it's super simple to place START points for new slices but I can't find a way to quickly put ends to those slices! It's one of the main reasons sampling is kind of stressing me out on my MPC X. Someone please help! In case my question is confusing, you know how when you tap a pad to set a new starting point? When I do that it puts the END automatically at the very end of the ENTIRE 10 minute sample! Therefore I have to drag and drag and drag to where I want it to be at! That takes way too long! There's gotta be some kind of shortcut or faster way to place end points the same way it's super simple to create starting points? Please help!
