They started making videos for friends and family and posting to KZfaq. After meeting several “KZfaqrs” they were disgusted with what they were clued into. It's not the fact that the speed limit is 55 mph when towing a travel trailer in CA, I don't have a problem driving a little slower, it's the fact that some vehicles are allowed to go 70 mph while others are only allowed to go 55 mph on the interstates. What genius thought it was a good idea to get different types of vehicles going different speeds creating almost an obstacle course like experience. Absolutely brilliant!!!

We just went thru the PRNY on the way to Massachusestan and because we have a Diesel truck and have an Open Roads fuel card we did not find the fuel prices too bad. We paid like $3.20 a gal at a TA truck stop in Montgomery and $3.40 at Loves in Cannan. That's a heck of a lot better than the over $4 full retail prices.

Best RV trip in CA, start south end 395 on the east side of the Sierras & go north. Take a side trip into Yosemite then back to 395. Go north to Susanville take 44 to 89. Go north 89 to Mt Shasta area. Go west to Cresent City and go south Hwy 1 down to Fort Bragg. After that, get out of CA:)

I'm from Baton Rouge (live a couple towns away now) and work there...the eastbound part of I-10 after crossing the Mississppi is one big cluster. That interchange going to the right to continue on I-10 is always bottlenecked due to the poor design (going from 3 to 1 lane and having to get over so you don't have to almost immediately exit after taking that right...used to be two lanes, but someone thought it would be a great idea to take one of those lanes away). Glad I live east of BR and don't have to cross that bridge.

We've been living fulltime and offgrid in our RV for 8 years and 8 months in the western states and we never tow faster than 55 unless we're on a downhill grade and don't want to use our brakes enough to slow down and grab a lower gear. And I'll suggest that anyone towing faster than that is an accident waiting to happen. It's the law in CA and if it's good enough for 12% of the country's population, it's good enough for me -- wherever I might be. I haven't seen a trailer accident yet (online or in person) that wasn't caused by newbies driving too fast for their experience and equipment. Where the hell are they going in such a hurry anyway?

Amazing! The Lovely Bride and I are not RVers....But we haven't lost anything in any of the states you mentioned. Hell, once we managed to get out of The Peoples Republic of Maryland and back home to our beloved home state of South Carolina only TLB has made a trip up there to visit her son. As for me....Well I refuse to go north of the NC-VA line or south of Georgia because Florida is basically California East. We ARE thinking about buying either a good quality tent and camping gear or a "pop up" camper trailer for occasional weekend getaways in the near future.

As a CA native, the thing I'm noticing on the main highways is that hardly anyone goes the posted speed limit nowadays. If its posted 65 people go 75. If the speed limit is 70, people whiz by at 80 or more. Never thought I'd feel slow going 70mph!

Oh yah, don't even get me started on CA drivers. I was snow birding there a couple of winters ago and driving some winding canyon roads where speed limit was 40-45 and most people were whizzing by going 50-60. Yikes! Whatever happened to CA being laid back? Stop and smell the roses folks, you have a beautiful state.

So Calif is the worst, with taxes and fuel prices aside, it’s the roads. I don’t know where the road tax money went but it didn’t go for road repair. If you’re going north from Los Angeles to northern Calif, then your only choices is I-5 and Hwy 99. They are so bad, I gurantee that something will break or fall off your rig. You’ve been warned.

Have to be careful with that as not all do- Willington rest areas on 84 for example don’t. If I remember correctly, the only one with a year round dumps station is Danbury as the others are only available April 30th - November 1st.

@liferedesigned
@liferedesigned 18 күн бұрын
When we do these lists, something to keep in mind is that they are almost entirely viewer based responses with VERY little of our personal rankings. All we do, is add whatever experience we have had with that subject. For example, with Florida limiting rest area stops to 3 hours by law and very little other places to rest overnight (Walmart's in particular due to many cities ordinances) it does make it difficult to travel through, especially for older drivers (our core demographic is 55 -64) As for us, we usually drive straight through, so we don't have that problem. Any state that restricts the amount of rest for safe driving should be on this list in our opinion but we would love to hear why you feel it shouldn't be on this list - is there something you can share that other viewers may have missed that makes RV travel in Florida better?
@tonydiaz3723
@tonydiaz3723 17 күн бұрын
@@liferedesigned On reality as Floridian I can tell you that most of the times as you know people really exaggerate, I had never seen the 3 hours been enforced, in a matter of fact I’d seen RV’s for days on rest stops, and I know because I stopped back on the same place on my way back for a trip and the same RV is still there, about the Walmart’s it depends also of the Manager, sometimes they use the city as an excuse to avoid people overnight. Even though I understand that with the massive amount of RVer’s visiting Florida every year some rules are needed. One of the great things of Florida is the diversity of the campgrounds options, for full timers or weekend warriors or any combination in between, now I have a suggestion for you and I know this would be controversial, I would love to make a survey about Who are the worst Rver’s in the country, I’d been in park’s where my Neighboor believes he is entitled to trash the place and then go online and talk terrible about the campground or our Estate…. I know you seen it too.

First of all, you’re NOT SUPPOSED to drive over 55 mph when towing for safety reasons - in ANY state! And 2nd if you think California is a bad state for RVing, then you’re doing it wrong! I have Thousand Trails and I ❤ camping all over that state in their parks - from San Diego in the south, up to Gold County in the north - with the desert and the mountains in between..
@liferedesigned
@liferedesigned 17 күн бұрын
Actually, YOU ARE WRONG about state laws regarding towing. California is THE ONLY STATE with such a low towing speed limit when towing: For example, the maximum speed for towing in the following states - Alaska - 65 Arizona - 75 Arkansas - 75 Florida - 70 Georgia - 70 Utah - 80 Texas - 85 Wisconsin - 70 Wyoming - 80 Most states range 65-80 mph. For a complete list by state - check out this link and be informed: rvnerds.com/resources/speed-limits-and-towing/ Now that we corrected that - We were actually pretty clear about California - aside from the ridiculous gas prices and taxes, we HIGHLY recommended visiting California by RV, despite our viewers putting it on this list.
@RoamTownGirl
@RoamTownGirl 17 күн бұрын
I didn't say it was against the law, I said it's not safe to do so - between the different tire speed ratings, braking systems limitations, weight of towable, etc, staying at 55 mph hedges against fliping on to it's side.
@liferedesigned
@liferedesigned 17 күн бұрын
We were simply replying to your comment that "Your not supposed to drive over 55 in any state" and that statement was false - no worries. As a KZfaqr yourself, you know that we can only respond to comments as they are written. As for your statement about not being safe to tow over 55 - that may hold true for small utility trailers BUT the general consensus is actually 65 with towable RV's. This is why most states are around that speed as law. As full timer's we can attest that 65mph has never been an issue and is actually the preferred speed as it keeps up with the flow of traffic. While RVs rarely flip over, wind speeds as low as 15-20 miles per hour (MPH) can affect them while driving. Driving in winds near 30 MPH or higher might not be safe for some RVs at highway speeds. RVs usually only flip during extreme weather events like hurricanes or tornadoes. We have never heard of an RV flipping over simply by following speed limits set by the states - You would need to have other factors. We don't write the laws, we just repeat and follow them
