The early reviews are in for Star Wars The Acolyte episodes 1 - 4 due to select individuals being shown an early screening of the first 4 episodes before it's release on June 4th (5th UK). It's time to deep dive into the reviews and attempt to read in between the lines to ascertain what we can expect from the next Star Wars live action show.

Man, I'm actually surprised that Lucasfilm Ltd. allowed professional reviews to be released to the public. The problem with this collection of reviews is, the reviewers picked to see these parts of this show, tend to be 'safe" bets for Lucasfilm Ltd. I wonder, as someone who's read about 67% of all of the books and comics comprising The High Republic, along w/ watching 85% of the Animated Young Jedi Adventures kids show, has strong feelings about the overall handling of The High Republic Multimedia Initiative (both positive and negative), would I be invited to watch the Premiere in a theater setting, and sought after for my overall evaluation of the series, thus far? Notice how someone like Star Wars Theory (the guy who Pablo HIdalgo mocked, after seeing his reaction to Luke Skywalker's return to Star Wars, in The Mandalorian (Season 2) Finale) wasn't invited, even though he has the biggest unofficial SW channel on KZfaq? "Beholden to nothing except being Star Wars..." That, gives me pause. It makes me think that Leslye Headland's desire, like Rian Johnson's in many ways, was to tell HER STORY within The SWU. Not necessarily a story that is aligned with Lucas' tenets of SW storytelling. If the story comes across as very idiosyncratic and solipsistic, existing within itself for its own justification...THAT can become a BIG PROBLEM. Andor, to me, suffers from that same characteristic; which is ultimately why I'm rather uninterested in Season 2. Wow, you mean, one has to be 5 episodes in to an 8-episode miniseries, before things start to make sense? I was full-on invested in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Bad Batch, minute 1. I was even very much invested after The Light Of The Jedi. The idea that one doesn't have to be a seasoned, experienced SW Fan to enjoy this series, conversely makes me wonder: What if you ARE one? Will this series come across as so generalized-yet-specific, it might put off long-time SW enthusiasts? That's a tight rope to walk creatively, in 2024, given how diluted, frustrated, and distrustful consumers of SW have been, since 2018, and even more so after 2021. The future, clouded, it seems. We'll see...

C’mon I mean this channel isn’t huge but it’s got more subs than some of the other channels that went 🤷‍♂️ I’d try and get the whole JSW crew admission 🤣 I think what the review that mentioned you don’t need to be a SW fan to enjoy it meant it along the lines of the Mandalorian where that was and still is really popular to the general audience, not just us hard core fans

Somehow, given my strong, vocal opinions about Kennedy's handling of the SW IP, over the last 11 years, I don't think I'll ever retain an invite to a SW Premiere...unless it's George Lucas and/or Dave and Jon who are doing the inviting. You never know, though...

Great analysis on how Star Wars series can garner the attention new and old fans. I feel same with Mandalorian and Bad Batch right from the start I was hooked. It had a story that gets you invested right away. What I found so interesting about Bad Batch, a young female clone character was the the protagonist,her gender had no significance to her persona and the journey she experienced. Omega’s persona developed with the relationship of her clone bothers. A lesson driven plot with nonstop action with a one kind individuals, that are more than a label. Same way Mandalorian had the father and son connection. These series both were exciting and had original viewpoints into SW universe. Mostly what made them more popular than others was how relatable the characters were to the audience. Both prove gender and race no major impact to overall success of these original projects. Acoylote has such characters, perhaps audience can enjoy escape to galaxy far far away.

The Bad batch and Skeleton Crew), SW: Rebels, The Clone Wars (Season 7), Tales Of The Jedi, and Tales Of The Empire come across differently, is because they're all overseen by Dave Filoni, who was handpicked by George Lucas (around 2005), to learn about cutting-edge Animation and extended, long-term Star Wars storytelling. Two of the main tenets of Lucas' storytelling are: Universal themes and accessible, relatable characterization. Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, and their respective writing teams, are keeping Mr. Lucas' epic, legendary legacy alive and fresh. Meanwhile, too much of Kathleen Kennedy and Bob Iger's new concept of SW storytelling, promoted by The Lucasfilm Story Group (since 2013), seems too focused on extremist, controversial, esoteric sociopolitical messaging, at the expense of the tenets of George Lucas, which are tried and true. Thus, the general audience, and the ardent SW fandom, tend to feel off-put or alienated by these foreign aesthetic tendencies. Plus: Have you noticed how the PR for shows like, Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Acolyte tend to be antagonistic, confrontational, or critical towards the potential SW audience, rather than inviting? That certainly sets the wrong mood for a brand new series release on Disney + or in a theatrical setting.

I have an idea. Instead of presenting the series as chopped 30 minute bit pieces, why not condense it into one major 2 and a half hour movie? Better yet, place it in theaters, and not Disney +? Why wait two months for the climax?

If you don’t know what I mean by the green Lightsaber Each light saber color, is the representation of the person using it. Blue is more for warrior type, Jedi Green is for more pacifist type Jedi, who May also have a strong affinity to the force. Purple light saber users, are very rare, but their people that use the dark side for good. The purple is a mix of red and blue. Yellow from what I understand are for Jedi who are knowledge based, and are Usually guards or cop like. Red are for dark side users who bleed the Crystal with their hate, passion and sadness. White is when a Jedi takes the red lightsaber and purifies it. Orange I am unsure about. But people say it’s when a Jedi is more dark than light but is not a dark side user.

They know which critics and influencers are most likely to like it, and invite them, and then tell them they cant publish a full review until right beforehand so they have a very small amount they can say.

Yikes if those are the early reviews the show has the potential to be a Marves- like disaster! The main criticism-- pacing isdues--although very gingerly expressed, represent the weaknesses that the trailers project. The original Star wars series focused on regular people that we could identify with -- whether it be a farm boy or delivery driver--who went on great heroic adventures. In contrast, the acolyte seems to focus on a bunch of wierd eccentric cultists who practice occult arts in furtherance of their esoteric ideology. And we should care about them because why exactly??

Ironically, in The High Republic books, We encounter a good deal of characters who are regular people trying to do well in the universe...while ALL HELL IS BREAKING LOOSE throughout the known galaxy. The Nihil are a motley crew of mostly ne'er do wells, with an anarchistic, psychotic bent. Even the Force cult, The Path Of The Open Hand is made up predominantly of non-Force-sensitive members. In the Animated series, Young Jedi Adventures (taking place during Phase One of The High Republic, 100 years before, The Acolyte), the 3 principle Jedi Padawans encounter a good deal of regular, hard-working people within the galaxy, who are in need of assistance, even when it doesn't necessarily require a Force-user's help. I wonder if Leslye Headland's 8-episode story will reflect any of that kind of society and world-building; since it seems rather concerned with a dynamic between The Jedi Order, a dangerous cult of space witches, and a (seemingly) Sith Acolyte. Just how many of those books did she read, when planning this specific story? Notice how, throughout The Clone Wars, The Jedi, The Sith, The Republic, and The Separatists all dealt with the general population, while their own personal matches occurred within their midst? Will that happen in this miniseries? I'm not leaning in the YES direction; but, We'll see, on June 4th.
