I agree, I prefer Castle and Warlock as The Shape in 1 and 2 simply because they are normal-sized guys (Castle is about 5'10", Warlock about 5'9") which makes the character more terrifying since his superhuman strength is even more puzzling and unexplainable. Making Michael taller than 6'0" or some muscle-bound giant completely defeats the point of the character and makes it less mysterious or creepy. Of course a 6'8", 275 lb. dude is going to always whoop ass no matter who they meet. But you see a guy that's 5'9" destroying people way bigger than him...way more scary.

ClayMation Honestly the mask could've survived. If they would've stuffed the mask with plastic bags and kept it on a stand and regularly cleaned it and such it could've lasted. In the condition it's in in the video it's beyond repair and given how old the video looks by now the mask would've been destroyed

You can foamfill a mask that would preserve it for decades! But freezing it or something would probably destroy it over time....

ClayMation This was the original mask used in H1 and H2, Which means it’s more than 40 years old. Originally, Halloween was just a b-roll movie, and was never intended to be a big success in movie history. Which means, they didn’t really care too much about the props and stuff. Debra Hill, the script supervisor and producer of Halloween, had kept it under her bed in a shoe box, but then took it out for H2. By then, the mask was 3 years old, and it looked older because of how heavy a smoker Debra was. Dick Warlock, the man who played the shape in H2, had kept it for a long time until he sold it at an auction, and has since been held at the man’s house.

ClayMation funny enough since this interview was shot in 2001 and a photo of the mask today In 2018 has surfaced and from that time gap it has not gotten much worst due to them preserving it as much as they can, from the 3 year period between 1978-1981 it aged pretty badly and noticeably too, so seeing it now, it’s not that bad and consider it was a cheap $2 mask in 1978 made out of latex, an organic material, it’s actually held up quite well

I saw a documentary that stated the same thing.... same mask. It laid under Deborah Hills bed, in a box and that’s why the shape varies a bit. Same mask though.

although I do think H1 and H2 mask is the same, you can see behind the scenes from the first movie of 2 mask, and also photos of Carpenter playing for his band during 1978 shortly after making the film and the band members all have the masks on.

There were 3. 2 were stunt masks, the one in the video, not on the mannequin as that’s a limited edition ken hertlein mask, with the decay and rotted mouth and neck is the original H1 and H2 hero mask. There aren’t 2 hero masks, only, the other 2 (possibly 3, making it 4 total) were stunt masks that were lost after filming so for H2 they used the original H1 hero, it only looks different because of nick castle having a smaller head and dick Warlock having a huge head; hence the ‘warlock stretch’ look in H2

Nope, the mouth was already slit. All the Kirks had slit mouths but it wasn’t original gaping like that... Extensive wear took a toll on it.

It was the same physical prop from h1, however because of DW's face shape and the bad condition it was kept between 1 and 2 then it gave a completely different appearance to it in the second movie. so replica masks or toys of the first two movies will be two different shapes to give the appearances of both.

The mask is all about gone. It's been foam filled so it's not in anyway shape or form going to make a return looking any better which is sad. The mask dick has on the mannequin is a KHDW mask. That was sculpted by Ken, with the Hero mask next to it as Dick let him borrow it.

The original shape mask from Halloween (1978) and Halloween 2 (1981) DOES still exist. Dick Warlock surprisingly sold the mask a few years ago to a collector who at one point exhibited it to the public along with lots of rare horror movie memorabilia that he owned. He has since stopped showing the mask, retired it and it is now in a glass box literally locked in a safe vault at his home in Ohio. True story. The almost 40+ year old mask still lives on.

Latex if stored properly and cleaned properly can last for awhile that’s why there are some original 75 Kirk mask or just original don post masks in general that are still around I own a 1970 something gillas mask from don post and it’s not even hard not rotted still very flexible and wearable all depends on how you handle the masks
