THE ADVENTURES OF SCHOOLLY D: SNOWBOARDER [2003 INTERVIEW]
IT'S NOT SO INTERESTING TO LISTEN TO THE WHITE GUY PONTIFICATE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF RAP.
BUT ON THE POSITIVE SIDE WE GET TO HEAR A BIT OF JESSE'S HISTORY IN HIS OWN WORDS. ALTHOUGH, HE DOES SEEM A BIT SELF-CONSCIOUS SO JUST HOW MUCH OF IT IS BULLSHIT, I COULDN'T TELL YOU. BUT I ADMIT SOME OF IT DOES SOUND LIKE BULLSHIT. HE IS SCHOOLLY D, AFTER ALL.
THIS WAS ANOTHER EXTRA ON THE KING OF NEW YORK BLU RAY. I MAY TRY TO UPLOAD SOME MORE BLU RAY AND DVD EXTRAS IF THIS ONE WORKS OUT. MOST OF THEM, MAKING OF'S AND WHATNOT, GET BLOCKED FOR COPYRIGHTS BECAUSE THEY CONTAIN SCENES FROM MOVIES OR WHATEVER BUT THIS IS ALL JUST INTERVIEW'S SO I ASSUME IT IS SUITABLE FOR PUBLIC DISPLAY AND IT MAY NOT GET NUKED, RIGHT AWAY. WE'LL JUST HAVE TO SEE HOW IT GOES.

Thank you for posting this . I lost my copy of King Of New York with this . I loved this peek into his life and thoughts . It started me into being a huge Schoolly D fan. He is a great talent. He did all the art work on his albums and still does art now . He donates proceeds from his art to Philly school kids for art supplies. He also is involved with Aqua Teen Hunger Force, singing the theme song and playing himself in some episodes.

YOU'RE WELCOME. CHECK OUT HIS ALBUM "AM I BLACK ENOUGH FOR YOU?" FROM 1989 WHICH, IN MY OPINION IS HIS MASTER PIECE OF PRODUCTION AND SARCASM. ALSO "SMOKE SOME KILL" FROM 1988 IS A HARDCORE CLASSIC OF OG RAP.

@@DOOMJESUS I love that album with Welcome to America , I Know You Want To Kill Me , the whole album is tight. West Philly is a good jam with Schoolly wrapping it up. And of course Where You Get That Funk From. Schoolly came up with so many firsts from the start and so many don't know how he pioneered the art. Am I Black Enough For You was done originally by Billy Paul but I like Schoolly Ds version more.

HE IS A PRETTY COOL GUY. I MET HIM ONE TIME AT A SHOW IN ABOUT 1989. I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE TRIED TO STAY IN TOUCH BUT HE GOT PRETTY POPULAR SHORTLY AFTER THAT AND I WAS WRAPPED UP IN LIFE AS WELL.

It's hard to say who was the first Gangster rap artist but most of all of them came from the Hood. Things were just regulated. However Schooly D. In 84 probably was the first followed by Boogie Down Productions Criminal Mindee and that album though more than just gangster I give it to them. But Schooly did break through first. Just my analysis. 🤷🏿‍♂️ Oh and Just Ice on 86. But all of that was mainstream. Gangster rap in those times couldn't hit the mainstream until Eazy E said f*** it put his own money up and some how with no air play his shit broke mainstream. But we have to remember Def Jam did it big and at first it wasn't gangster like that but it was us. No one wanted to give the money to promote until Russell Simmons pitched it to Donald Trump and he put up big money. This Def Jam was started which to me I'd the ultimate of our Hip Hop culture. 💯
