You are correct skoopqueen, I am only one of many who gained from working with Regina Louise Collaro. I had no reason to live when I lost my job due to COVID in 2020, and it will always be a memorable year in my life. Regina made it possible for me to live comfortably through passive income, thus I owe her my life. To be completely honest, I think she is an angel who was sent to help those who are struggling financially.

hey shailey! so glad you've found these videos educational and really great to hear about your policy interests. wishing you the best of luck in the app process! this is a really great question -- and I'm honestly still in the midst of fully figuring this out myself! so I'm not sure if I'm enough of an expert rn to do a whole video on how to incorporate both medicine and policy into a career, but I'll definitely keep this comment in mind for the future. what I will say, though, is that I've met a ton of physician-policymakers since starting my job in health policy research -- some of them are leaders in state Medicaid programs, some conduct health policy/economics research at a university or think tank, some work in journalism or advocacy, and some serve more as technical consultants, using their medical expertise to help advise policy-making decisions. some of them balance their policy work with clinical practice or medical education, and some of them do policy work full-time. there are a lot of different paths to getting involved in policymaking as an MD, so at this point I'd just encourage you to keep exploring your interests, both now and in med school. i.e. try out health policy research, join advocacy and policy-oriented student groups, and take policy electives or consider a dual degree program (MD/MPP, MD/MPH, MD/MBA, etc.) I'd also recommend following a few physician-policymakers on twitter; it's a quick way to get a feel for the landscape and what others' paths have been like (and I can provide a few suggestions for who to follow if you like.) lmk if you have any other questions, and thanks for watching & commenting! it's always so nice to see other premeds/med students that are interested in policy :)

sure thing, Maria! here are a few suggestions: esther choo, elisabeth rosenthal, uche blackstock, farzad mostashari, eric topol, mandy cohen, and atul gawande. definitely not an exhaustive list, but i tried to include doctors involved in different parts of the policy space, including activism, journalism, government work, academic medicine/research, and physician/practice-level care transformation. you may want to also follow healthcare journalists, even if they aren't MDs -- people like sarah kliff, julie rovner, etc. hope this helps!

They really should expand the tax credits for silver plans to people who are offered health insurance by their employer, as often employer-sponsored healthcare is much more expensive than Obamacare, despite it covering less.

Yup. Retire early and find that "affordable health insurance" costs as much as a new car every single year. Unless of course you use it, then it costs more.

I think the video makes it clear that nominating Barrett won't make a difference. The Republicans already tried. They have to repeal and replace it. The medical association has to come to agreement as well.

lol the fact that you think Trump would do ANYTHING to make it affordable is hilarious. They want to repeal it just because Obama's name in it. I agree we need to make ACA more affordable, but again if we do that, why don't we just support medicare-for-all. But hey, Trump would call whoever support medicare-for-all are the radical left.

yes and no. in terms of the Medicaid expansion piece, the federal government doesn't ask individual taxpayers to pay for Medicaid the way that you pay into Medicare -- in other words, there isn't a "Medicaid tax" that directly finances the program. but the federal government does collect revenue that includes corporate, individual, payroll, excise taxes, etc. and part of that revenue goes to programs like Medicaid (as well as defense spending, etc.) does that make sense?

I can answer this question more accurately. Yes, the federal government gets all of its money through taxation so taxpayers are paying for everything that is federally funded

Question for MR. IRS Employee, Why am I being charged soo much for "ACA Employer " fee on my checkstubs ? It's adding up to $800 a month . What is this for ? And can I opt out of it ? It seems ridiculously high.

Good point, follow the money, democrats give insurance companies the opportunity to get fat on taxpayers money, in return insurances reinforce the ones that will lobby their interests.

I was recently cured of Hsv1and2, Thanks to Dr Agbonifo for the good work. After living with this virus for 4years, I saw a comment of Dr Agbonifo on a headline, I was skeptical but I had to talk to him about my situation because I've done everything possible for me to get cured, and the doctors doesn't make us believe there is a cure, When I told him of my situation, he told me not to worry that I will be cured. I did exactly what he said, I took the medicine for some weeks just the way he ordered and my Hsv1and2 is gone. Now I'm free with no side effects or whatsoever. Sounds like a con. maybe the wrong guy got hold of your card. The ACA is Obamacare. it is a law. it is not an employer. at most, maybe your employer would cover your healthcare. that happened regardless of the ACA. The ACA did mandate big businesses to cover employees, and all plans must cover certain things. but in that case, why would u pay. Employer plans usually do share at least some costs, but 6k in under 10 months? huh? for what? premiums? co insurance? I can't help because i don't have your bill or any ability to contact any employer u may have, but u can try. God speed
