Ezra using the force as his only weapon is one of the most interesting ideas I’ve seen come out of Disney Star Wars. With nothing to do but deepen his connection to the force, it would’ve been a cool way to show some new techniques. Imagine him jumping around and blowing people away, knocking blasters out of enemy hands and telepathically throwing a boulder their way. Genuinely sad they backtracked on this concept. I guess having a unique idea that fits in perfectly to the Star Wars mythos takes a back seat to nostalgia.

It’s weird how in some of these Disney shows seem to sideline their main characters for some reason. Like they are only there to draw in views so that way they can tell their own story.

I’m really starting to wonder what’s going on at Disney whenever it comes to Star Wars. Writer 1:*gives an idea*. Writer 2:Uh, guys, that doesn’t line up with the rest of the franchise. Writer 1:Did anyone hear that?

Don’t you remember REEEEEva from Kenobi, Gio? She got stabbed not once in that series but twice with a lightsaber and survived both times, because Disney and the current iteration of Lucasfilm don’t have a clue.

I loved Rebels. This was advertised as Rebels Season 5, but it was really more like Rebels season 5 if they took an episode, dragged out a 20 minute episode for an hour, got rid of most of the main characters, developed them without telling the viewer, and isn't nearly as good as Rebels in general.

I'll at least say that Luke was able to use Force telekinesis after _training himself_ for the 3 years between _A New Hope_ and _Empire Strikes Back_ (grabbing his lightsaber to save himself from the wampa). Of course, he's a Skywalker and all, but I don't see _that_ as so far fetched. I do really appreciate your explanation of The Force afterwards. Even in a game like The Force Unleashed (who's whole deal _is_ making The Force as OP as possible), you learn new skills over time and build up to the epic set pieces. I can't really comment on much else, cause I haven't watched this show. I just saw a G.I. Gio premier and thought I'd watch that. Actually, I just had a thought - not a very well-developed one yet, but a thought. There's a trend with live-action Star Wars shows where those based on new ideas and characters tend to be regarded as much better than those about pre-existing (nostalgic) characters; Andor and The Mandalorian versus Ahsoka, Kenobi, and Boba Fett. Do the writers think they can rely on nostalgia and spectacle and so don't put as much effort into the writing of those shows (like this video explains)? That's not something I can explore further because I'm just not interested in most of these shows, but maybe someone else will.

It should be noted that in the Star Wars universe, being stabbed in the heart is much more lethal than being stabbed in the stomach like Sabine was.

It's funny they hired the actress that played Aeryn in Farscape, (a fantastic sci-fi series) and that show even had a perfect example of how Thrawn should be, in their character Scorpius. But this version of Thrawn is no where close and wishes he was anything like Scorpius!

I've read the old Thrawn books and he was incredibly smart. This version of Thrawn is like a stupid person's attempt at pretending to be smart. He keeps screwing up and just goes "Aha. It's all part of the plan!" The smartest person alive even forgot to lock the damn doors in the tower... Ahsoka and the others loklcked the doors from the inside to slow down the zombies chasing them! I know lightsabers cut doors but it still takes time. If they aren't fast enough they'll eventually be cornered and overrun. At least Ezra wouldn't have made it onto the destroyer... Thrawn could have even bombarded the tower while they were inside. It served no further purpose at that point and would have stopped or even killed them!

I liked the show but it did feel as you said hollow. Baylen was my favorite character and they didn't do anything in the final episode with him. RIP Ray Stevenson. Not to mention i'm not mad about your explanation about Sabine using the force too quickly. The feeling is mutual. Same goes for lightsaber damage=just a scratch. Downgrading the effects of lightsabers gets on my nerves.

18:33, Before I go any further, I giggled at the microphone on a knife. 0:27, 3:35, 6:07, 11:52, 12:47, “Hollow” is this best way to describe this show. My biggest gripe with it was that even when things were happening, each episode still felt largely uneventful, tensionless and sometimes outright boring. 2:10, Like a lot of things in this show, this would only have required a minor change to not appear jarring. I know they have Bacta in this universe (which they already used in Mandalorian Season 1’s finale to immediately heal Din when he gets a fatal head injury), but I wish they showed details of how they managed to save her (such as Ahsoka getting an emergency pack of Bacta from her ship to immediately put on her gut wound and having to do it quickly before it kills her, which would maintain consistency with how Qui Gonn Gin’s gut wound took several minutes to kill him and him saying “It’s too late” implying he died before any medical attention could be given) and that it would take a little more effort for her to either recover. But instead, it focuses a bit needlessly on her doubting her capabilities while she could be focused on trying to find her friend. 16:05, While it is established the Force exists in all living beings and some simply have a higher amount of it that others that they can learn to perceive and manipulate through concentration to varying degrees, having Sabine be taught how to use the Force isn’t really all that necessary to her character. It doesn’t really change her as a person other than now having her be telekinetic (by comparison, Luke Skywalker, someone with a much higher innate Force connection, was barely able to summon his lightsaber hilt when about to be mauled to death by a wampa while Sabine can not only summon Ezra’s lightsaber but also levitate a fully grown person who is falling through the air). Compare this to her stint with the Darksaber, where having to wield it correlated with her being made to face her shame and anger over the Beskar destroying field generator she made for the Empire that they used to subjugate her planet and people. They could have primarily stuck with her primary conflict being her grief and desperation to reunite with Ezra after the lose of her people potentially endangering the entire galaxy when she gives Thrawn the means to return from Peridia. Instead, she and Ezra greet each other like they’ve only missed a few months of time together and that’s it. No emotion, no struggle, no conflict, just another action setpiece and Ahsoka needlessly wastes her time fighting Baylan when she could have kept flying to reach Sabine and Ezra to save them from the death squad Thrawn sent after them.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video even though I only saw like half of Ahsoka episode 1. I have no interest in actually seeing it since I predicted it would be a lot of what you described. TBH, I've been very unsure about Ahsoka as a character for like a year now. I don't just mean in the Disney stuff, I'm also not positively sure if Ahsoka was ever a good character to begin with. People I talked to online gave a lot of criticisms on how Ahsoka was poorly written in TCW and how she's constantly a mary sue that Filoni keeps alive. Now I haven't rewatched TCW for over two years and I don't have a hate bone for Ahsoka right now, but it's hard for me to dismiss these criticisms after I learned how out of touch Filoni is with Star Wars and that he's still using her a cash cow. Either way, this show is clearly another dumpster fire from Disney and it's apparent Ahsoka should've had a send off a long time ago.

The lightsaber stab _could have_ worked, if they had shown her just BARELY survive after quickly getting rushed to the hospital bed (and clearly explain that she was lucky to have survived at all), and actually developed that into part of a character arc where she deals the the phycological trauma of such an injury, and learns that her training is a lot more important than she first realized. But of course... that's giving them too much credit.

I've got my own theory: Disney doesn't know how (or doesn't want to) do any space opera. But they have this immensely popular franchise, and they need to exploit it, so they keep making stories in other genres, then giving them the trappings of Star Wars stories. The Mandalorian? It was great, mostly, but it wasn't space opera; it was a western. Put the Man with No Name next to Din Djarin, and he fits right in. Ashoka? Ashoka is either a fairy tale, or a DnD campaign; pretty sword & sorcery either way. And so on, and so forth. If I need a space opera fix, I'll go re-read Schlock Mercenary; that webcomic goes hard especially towards the end when all the story lines wrap up.

First 2 episodes of this show were what made me drop the whole Star Wars tv shows idea altogether.

I'm just gonna use years here, I'll leave the "BBY" and "ABY" stuff to the hardcore fans because for me(a casual SW fan) it is just plain confusing.... So in years: The Rebels epilogue takes place five years after RotJ(I'm gonna assume that it wasn't too long after the siege of Lothal because Hera was pregnant at that time, and Jacen appears to be around five during the Rebels epilogue) , which is where we see Sabine become Ahsoka's apprentice. Looks like about a year goes by when The Night of 1000 Tears happens on Mandalore, killing Sabine's family. It is most likely at this point that Ahsoka and Sabine part ways as Ahsoka feared that Sabine would turn dark. Another four years passes and that is where the Ahsoka series begins. So it looks like Ahsoka had only been training her for a year before she decided to abandon her. I don't know.... This series didn't expalin their relationship that well! If the Ahsoka series would have been about developing the relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine rather than leaving the viewers in the dark... the perhaps it would have been a better series! Also, in regards to how Sabine could force push Ezra, well I kind of have a theory that she may have had a little help, I kind of figure that perhaps Anakin's force ghost helped her out... that might be a bit of a stretch, but it makes a crap ton more sense than her using it like a pro in just a few minutes!

Sabine surviving the lightsaber does make sense if Shin know Ahsoka was coming. If she saw Sabine dead she’d angrily chase Shin. If Sabine was dying Ahsoka would rush her to hospital and Shin escapes. Show still sucked.

Honestly this show should'nt have been live and should've just been a new Rebels season.

I was a fan of them getting back to some bad assery with Balyan and their story... then had so much slow parts took me out to then be like okay some cool lightsaber fights. but was a bit slow.. then the world between worlds - cool. not so cool where the child was like do you hear it... was odd.. then to have another "descendant" of a jedi become this UBER powered person in seconds was like they missed out on a great time to do a flashback scene of her training with asoka - to then have her own acceptance of it. and as for the push - yeah that was BS.. if anything reverse where they guys are at and have them at the back where it would make it a shorter distance and make it be a little bit more believable. also have her fall down from using SO MUCH energy like baby yoda (aka grogu). but yes the fact so many scenes were just people not saying anything was so weak. Was it a good show no.. did it have some good scenes yes.. was the action great no it was okay.. did the writing fall flat Hell yes... I hope now that the writers are back, they want to do more quality over quantity, we will see why baylan went where he did and what ends up with the other 3 force users on that planet that seems to have a HUGE connection to all sides of the force as well as the witches. keep up the fun cheers.

If this Series was Animated with the Original Actors that Voice the Character, it would’ve be Fine as Star Wars current Strength is Animated Series, but instead we got a Confusing Souless Mess I don’t understand what is happening Half of the Time, Rosario Dawson was terribly Miscast as Ahsoka Tano that I get Bored Watching Her, Sabine felt like the Main Character instead of he Master and while I have little Memory on Rebels, I’m pretty sure that’s not how the Character should be and honestly she doesn’t need the Force when she has Weapons that fit her Better and somehow she Barely Uses Them in the Series, Ezra and Thrawn were done so Dirty, the Legacy Characters Did Nothing Interesting, and the Series Lacks and Ignore the Rule, the Lore, and Rebels, I felt Empty and Disappointed that I don’t want to see another season from Disney draining the Likability Star Wars has Left and if there’s One Thing in this Franchise I want to see Retcon it’s Not Rebels but the Unholy Sequel Trilogy, Great Video as Always Gio and I hope to see you in the New Year.

The lightsaber hand off is terrible because within that same fight, Ezra picks up a weapon because turns out he's not that good at hand to hand, THEN he also builds another lightsaber, because i guess the parts are just laying around. It makes no sense. The writers just put in stuff people would like to see without a thread of logic connecting them.

My point of the worst point of this show is after Sabine gave up the map. The first two episodes could have been skipped easily. The two main leads actually faced a challenge and everyone was excited at seeing an action with consequences. Then... They flat out ignore it. Seriously they could have had her get slapped by a storm trooper and hauled onto the star ship like a sack of potatoes and nothing would have changed from the overall script. The made her take one action which could be considered good or bad depending on your point of view... Value family or doom them to safeguard the galaxy... And then swept it underneath the rug where there are clear points where it felt like they had planned for it to get addressed before the writers were beaten with the stupidity stick. Can't let the females face any hardship or be seen with any possible flaw... Even if it makes them a better character! Seriously Ashoka who chose to repress her emotions showed more emotion or care about Ezra than the person who sold out the galaxy, left her master for dead, and joined the evil space empire for a taxi ride... Didn't say or do anything to ensure the script would run right past it so she looks perfect with no flaws. That's the problem with Disney Star Wars live action... By refusing to let anything happen to their female characters and insisting they are the leads... Nothing happens!

At the moment the show was announced that it will be live action, I didn't cared about it. I personally really prefer animated shows over live action.

Despite thinking of myself as a critical thinker, I found myself unable to get stuck up in the issues with this show and really, really enjoyed it despite its flaws. I am likely the target audience for the nostalgia baiters at DisLucasfilm as I grew up watching the clone wars. Here was the positive spin I put on it (which probably requires a background understanding/certain perspective on the behind-the-scenes drama with Filoni, KK, Iger, etc) - Sabine's sudden force use seems like a forced inclusion by Kennedy. Whether or not you agree with her stated agenda to place women in the forefront of new star wars media, its not some conspiracy but rather her simple business strategy. Kennedy is currently Filoni's boss and thus she has the final say. This show, for me, was a perfect middle ground in which Filoni was able to put his own substance in, despite having to wrestle with a boss who would never allow Ezra to display negative emotions like anger or skepticism towards our female protagonist, for example. With the way things are planned for the future, Kennedy's new Rey movie appears to be her "prove it or lose it" project to Disney's CEO - being that if like the sequels it fails financially, her job will be handed to someone else, most likely being either Jon Favreu or Filoni himself. And hinging on this big if, this could lead to a second season of Ahsoka that most fans will find much more entertaining/easier to swallow. Anyway my 2 cents xD

Sabine being stabbed in the gut was so dumb! This is fucking Star Wars! Cut off her hand, and no one will question why she is all good in the next scene. Sure, losing limbs is a Star Wars trope. But, it's a trope that makes more sense than the new trope of living through gut shots by a lightsaber.

Making me reflect on my interest and having played the various SW RPG games ranging from West End Games up to Fantasy Flight... ANY character can become Force Sensitive. Depending on the game system this is something as simple as taking a feat in the D20 system to spending a certain amount of points (system dependent) and ... VOILA! You too can wield the force like a drunken master, or plot armored twat. Your point though of an extreme lack of character development is probably more of an issue than Sabine or that black chick getting gutted with a lightsaber which includes going through the spine, let's not kid ourselves. So yes, your logic on Sabine is not wrong, as much as I hate to agree with you.

I love Rosario Dawson, but she was just too old for this part. Rebels made it seem like she was close in age to Sabine. If she was etter at the fight scenes it wouldn't be a big deal. I think it as much about the director and stunt choreography. They referenced Rebels way too much. Many adults will watch .I've action but not animated shows.

And Ahsoka sucks, too, with it's lazy writing and overreliance on nostalgia and different already established characters to piggy back off of these things that fans love.....AGAIN! If you actually enjoyed Rebels, you'll hate all of these characters. It's almost as if they forgot they already had this entire Sabine "I don't want to be a jedi" bs in the animated show. I can't even begin to explain how disney manages to hire directors who've never even watched star wars. They are getting payed to add on to a already developed franchise, there is so little that they have to do that I doubt they spent more than a hour witting the entire show. If your a writer and you can't think of a decent story for such a vaste universe full of aliens, magic, and the force sensetive children, then you've failed as a writer. Also let me ruin the entire show for you, Ezra would be dead, he was barely able to get away with thawn at the end of Rebels where he was about to get rushed by storm troopers(Ezra was shot, like this guy was killed off how could he be alive). Answer how tf in any case would Ezra be able to escape thawn after barely trapping the guy to begin with. either Thawn is a idiot and a injured ezra is better than the worlds best tactician, or Thawn intentionally left his greatest threat alive.

Thrawn was the only good part of the show. As for his decisions, twelve or thirteen years on Peridea, in a different galaxy, likely makes it a bit hard to kill one of the few people that's from there too. I just wish we got to see more of his command staff, Hammerly, Lomar, and Pyrondi. As Thrawn's senior staff, he'd place an emphasis on their skills in combat, so it'd make sense they and much of the surviving crewmen would have skills on par with most of the troopers, which the producers did terribly at showing.
